Lig club Çorum FK.[1] Standing at 1.90 metres (6 ft 3 in), he is a left-footed player known for his shot-stopping ability and has earned 55 caps for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team since his debut in 2010.[1][2][3]Šehić began his professional career in his native Bosnia and Herzegovina with FK Željezničar Sarajevo, where he made his senior debut and contributed to winning the 2010–11 Bosnian Cup.[4] In 2011, he moved to Turkey with Mersin İdmanyurdu, spending two seasons in the Süper Lig before transferring to Azerbaijani club Qarabağ FK in 2013.[5] His five-year stint at Qarabağ marked the peak of his club success, as he helped secure five Azerbaijan Premier League titles (2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18) and four Azerbaijan Cups, establishing himself as a key figure in the club's European campaigns.[4]After leaving Qarabağ in 2018, Šehić returned to Turkey, playing for Erzurumspor (2018–2020) and Konyaspor (2020–2023) in the Süper Lig, where he accumulated over 140 appearances.[5] In 2023, he joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Khaleej, making 51 appearances before signing with Çorum FK on 6 July 2025 on a one-year contract.[1] Internationally, Šehić was Bosnia and Herzegovina's primary goalkeeper for much of the 2010s and 2020s, participating in UEFA Nations League matches and qualifiers until his retirement in 2024, though the team has not qualified for a major tournament during his tenure.[3][6]
Ibrahim Šehić signed his first professional contract with his hometown club, FK Željezničar Sarajevo, on December 31, 2007, at the age of 19, transitioning from the club's youth academy to the senior squad. In the 2007–08 debut season, he made his first-team appearances while competing for a regular spot behind established goalkeepers, gradually earning more playing time through consistent performances in training and matches. By the 2008–09 season, Šehić had solidified his position as the first-choice goalkeeper, demonstrating strong shot-stopping abilities and command in the penalty area that became hallmarks of his early professional style.[7]From 2007 to 2011, Šehić accumulated 86 appearances across all competitions for Željezničar, serving as a reliable presence in the Bosnian Premier League and cup ties. His development during this period was pivotal, as he contributed significantly to the team's defensive stability in domestic competitions, including progression to the starting XI for crucial fixtures. During his tenure, he helped secure one major honour: the Bosnian Premier League title in the 2009–10 season.[8][4]
Mersin İdmanyurdu
In the summer of 2011, Ibrahim Šehić transferred from FK Željezničar Sarajevo to Turkish club Mersin İdmanyurdu for a fee of €425,000, signing a five-year contract.[9][10] This move marked his first experience in a foreign league, joining a newly promoted Süper Lig side aiming to establish itself in the top flight.Šehić initially served as a backup goalkeeper, making his debut as a substitute in a 0–3 league defeat to Fenerbahçe on 17 October 2011, where he played the second half.[11] He soon earned starts, featuring in the full match during a 0–1 loss to Beşiktaş three days later and becoming a regular in the 2011–12 Süper Lig season with 22 appearances as Mersin finished 14th, avoiding relegation.[12][13] In the 2012–13 campaign, his role diminished to 14 appearances amid increased competition, contributing to the team's overall total of 36 league outings during his tenure.[13][14]Following Mersin İdmanyurdu's relegation to the TFF First League after finishing 18th in the 2012–13 Süper Lig, Šehić faced limited opportunities and was suspended by the club in September 2013, training with the youth team.[15] He departed in October 2013, transferring to Azerbaijani club Qarabağ FK for €680,000 in pursuit of greater playing time and competitive challenges.[16]
Qarabağ
In October 2013, Ibrahim Šehić transferred from Turkish club Mersin İdmanyurdu to Azerbaijani side Qarabağ FK, where he quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.[17] Over the next five seasons, he made 171 appearances across domestic league matches, cup competitions, and European fixtures, showcasing consistent reliability in goal.[14] In December 2014, Šehić signed a new three-year contract extension with the club, committing until 2018 amid improved financial terms and the team's growing ambitions in European competitions.[18]Šehić's performances were particularly notable in UEFA competitions, where he played a pivotal role in Qarabağ's qualification campaigns. He recorded several clean sheets in high-stakes qualifier matches, including a 3-0 home victory over FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the second qualifying round of the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League, helping secure advancement. His shot-stopping ability was evident in the Europa League group stages as well, where he made 35 saves during Qarabağ's 2017–18 Champions League campaign—the highest among goalkeepers in the group phase that season.[19] These efforts contributed to the club's historic first-ever group stage appearance in the Champions League.During his tenure, Šehić helped Qarabağ secure multiple Azerbaijan Premier League titles and cup successes, solidifying the team's dominance domestically. His contract expired at the end of the 2017–18 season, leading to a departure as a free agent following a period of peak achievement for both player and club.
