Arkadiusz Reca
Arkadiusz Reca (born 17 June 1995) is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Ekstraklasa club Legia Warsaw and the Poland national team.[1][2][3] Reca began his senior career in Poland with hometown club Chojniczanka Chojnice in 2011, making his debut in the third tier during the 2011–12 season.[4] He moved to Flota Świnoujście in 2014 and then to Wisła Płock in 2015, where he established himself as a key player, contributing to the team's promotion to the Ekstraklasa in 2016 by scoring one goal in 28 appearances during the 2015–16 I liga season.[4] The following year, in 2016–17, he helped Wisła Płock secure survival in the top flight with four goals in 32 league matches, showcasing his versatility as a left-sided defender capable of contributing offensively.[4] In 2018, Reca transferred to Italian Serie A club Atalanta for an undisclosed fee, initially featuring sparingly with three appearances before being loaned out.[5] His loans included stints at SPAL in 2019–20 (25 appearances), Crotone in 2020–21 (30 appearances, two goals), and Spezia in 2021–22 (25 appearances).[4] Atalanta made his move to Spezia permanent in 2022 for €3.9 million, where he became a regular, amassing over 90 appearances across three full seasons and scoring five goals, though the club faced relegation from Serie A in 2022–23.[5][4] In July 2025, following the expiration of his Spezia contract, Reca returned to Poland on a free transfer to Legia Warsaw, signing a three-year deal until June 2028.[6][5] Internationally, Reca earned his first cap for Poland on 7 September 2018 during a UEFA Nations League match against Italy.[3] He has since accumulated 15 appearances for the senior national team without scoring, including selection for the provisional squad ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, though he was not included in the final 26-man roster.[3]Club career
Youth and early career (2011–2015)
Arkadiusz Reca was born on 17 June 1995 in Chojnice, Poland. He began his youth football career with the local club Kolejarz Chojnice before joining the youth academy of Chojniczanka Chojnice in 2011.[7] Reca made his senior debut for Chojniczanka Chojnice during the 2011–12 season in Poland's II liga (western group), where he appeared in one match without scoring a goal. This initial exposure marked his transition from youth football to competitive senior play in the third tier of Polish football.[8] In the 2013–14 season, Reca transferred to Koral Dębnica in the III liga (Baltic group), a regional fourth-tier league, where he featured in 26 matches and scored 5 goals, helping the team in its lower-division campaign. The following year, he moved up to Flota Świnoujście in the I liga, Poland's second tier, for the 2014–15 season. There, he recorded 28 appearances and 3 goals, contributing to the club's defensive and attacking efforts amid a challenging season that ended in relegation.[3][9]Wisła Płock (2015–2018)
Reca joined Wisła Płock in the summer of 2015, signing from Flota Świnoujście on a free transfer. In the 2015–16 season, he quickly established himself as a key contributor in the I liga, making 29 appearances across all competitions and scoring 12 goals, which played a significant role in the club's second-place finish and subsequent promotion to the Ekstraklasa.[8] Following promotion, Reca adapted effectively to the demands of the Ekstraklasa during the 2016–17 campaign, where he featured in 32 league matches and netted 4 goals, helping Wisła Płock secure a 13th-place finish and avoid relegation.[8] His form continued in the 2017–18 season, with 33 league appearances and 3 goals as he contributed to the team's stabilization in the top flight, culminating in a 10th-place standing.[8] Over his three seasons at Wisła Płock, Reca amassed 94 appearances and 19 goals in all competitions before departing for Atalanta in July 2018 in a transfer reported at €3.7 million, marking the club's record sale at the time.Atalanta and loan spells (2018–2021)
In July 2018, Arkadiusz Reca transferred from Wisła Płock to Atalanta for a reported fee of €3.7 million, signing a contract until June 2022.[10] This move marked his entry into Serie A and Italian football, building on his prior achievements in the Polish Ekstraklasa where he had established himself as a reliable left-sided defender.[11] Reca's opportunities at Atalanta were limited due to strong competition in the squad, resulting in just three appearances in Serie A during the 2018–19 season, all as a substitute with no goals or assists.[12] He did not feature for the first team in the following campaign before being loaned out, highlighting the challenges of breaking into a competitive environment at a club contending for European spots. To gain more playing time and development, Reca was loaned to SPAL for the 2019–20 Serie A season, with a loan fee of €0.4 million.[10] He made 25 appearances for SPAL, starting 22 matches and logging over 1,900 minutes, primarily as a left-back where he contributed two assists while focusing on defensive duties amid the team's struggle to avoid relegation.[12] SPAL ultimately finished 19th and were relegated, but Reca's consistent performances provided valuable experience in a high-pressure survival fight. His role emphasized defensive solidity, with frequent crossing attempts to support attacks, aligning with his versatile profile as a left-back capable of overlapping runs.[13] The subsequent 2020–21 season saw Reca loaned to Crotone for €0.1 million, where he became a key player in their Serie A campaign.[10] He featured in 30 matches, scoring two goals and providing seven assists, often deployed as a left-back or wing-back to deliver crosses and maintain defensive balance.[12] Despite these contributions, Crotone finished bottom of the table and were relegated, ending the loan spell in June 2021. Upon returning to Atalanta after his loans, Reca sought greater stability, leading to his decision to join Spezia on loan in August 2021, which later transitioned to a permanent move.[14]Spezia (2021–2025)
On 26 August 2021, Arkadiusz Reca joined Spezia Calcio on an initial loan from Atalanta BC, with an obligation to buy clause set to activate at the end of the season for approximately €3.5 million.[15][14] The move was structured as a four-year permanent deal effective from July 2022, following the loan period, allowing Reca to establish himself as a regular left-back in Serie A after prior loan experiences at Parma and Crotone.[16] In the 2021–22 Serie A season, Reca made 25 appearances with 22 starts, contributing 2 assists but no goals, as Spezia secured a 15th-place finish to ensure survival in the top flight.[17] His defensive contributions helped stabilize the backline during a campaign marked by mid-table security, with Reca often deployed in a wing-back role to support transitions. The following 2022–23 season saw him feature in 30 league matches (24 starts), scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists, playing a key role in Spezia's efforts to avoid direct relegation as they finished 17th before losing the playoff to Hellas Verona.[18][19] Following Spezia's relegation, Reca remained with the club in Serie B for the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, accumulating 39 appearances across both campaigns (34 starts), 4 goals, and 3 assists, bringing his total Spezia record to 94 appearances and 5 goals.[20] Despite a high-grade myotendinous thigh injury in November 2023 that sidelined him for several months, limiting his 2023–24 involvement to 14 appearances, Reca recovered to become a consistent starter in the defensive setup during Spezia's promotion push in 2024–25, though the team ultimately fell short in the playoffs against Cremonese.[21][22] His contract expired on 30 June 2025, concluding his tenure at Spezia on a free transfer.[23]Legia Warsaw (2025–present)
On 18 July 2025, Arkadiusz Reca joined Legia Warsaw on a free transfer from Spezia, signing a three-year contract that runs until June 2028.[24][25] The move marked his return to Polish football after seven years in Italy, bringing valuable Serie A experience to the club.[1] Upon arrival, his market value was estimated at €800,000.[1] Reca made his debut for Legia on 3 August 2025 in a 0–0 Ekstraklasa draw against Arka Gdynia, starting at left-back.[26] As of 16 November 2025, he had featured in 8 league matches, accumulating 493 minutes while primarily fulfilling defensive duties on the left flank, with no goals or assists recorded.[9][26] His performances have focused on solid positioning and overlapping runs, helping to stabilize Legia's backline amid a competitive season. In addition to domestic play, Reca has supported Legia's European campaign, appearing for 11 minutes in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match and 90 minutes in the UEFA Conference League league phase.[26] Drawing on his Italian tenure, he has contributed to improved defensive organization during qualifiers and early group stage fixtures.[27] In the Polish Cup, Reca made a substitute appearance for 45 minutes in Legia's opening-round win, showcasing his versatility despite initial adaptation to the intensity of Polish competitions.[26]International career
Youth career
Reca received his first call-up to the Poland U20 national team in 2015, making one appearance without scoring any goals.[28] His debut came on 16 November 2015 in a 0–0 draw against Germany in the U20 Elite League. These early experiences at the youth level helped establish his role as a left-back, where he began honing tactical awareness through competitive international fixtures.[29] In 2016, Reca advanced to the Poland U21 squad, earning three caps with no goals during European Championship qualifiers.[28] His selection was bolstered by strong early form at Wisła Płock, where he had transitioned to regular first-team action.[7] Through these limited but formative outings under coach Marcin Dorna, Reca further developed his defensive positioning and game-reading abilities in youth setups, laying groundwork for his senior international progression.[28]Senior career
Reca made his senior debut for the Poland national team on 7 September 2018, coming on as a substitute in a 1–1 away draw against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.[30] Between 2018 and 2022, Reca earned 15 caps for Poland without scoring a goal, often featuring as a rotational left-back or occasionally as a left midfielder to provide defensive depth.[31][32] His appearances included both matches against Italy in the 2018–19 UEFA Nations League, a friendly against the Republic of Ireland in September 2018, as well as UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures against Latvia, North Macedonia, Israel, and Slovenia in 2019.[31] During the 2020–21 UEFA Nations League, he contributed to the 3–0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in October 2020, and in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he appeared in matches such as the 3–3 draw against Hungary in March 2021. Poland secured qualification via the playoffs, defeating Sweden 2–0 in the final on 29 March 2022.[31] Reca was included in Poland's provisional squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but was ultimately omitted from the final 26-man roster announced by head coach Czesław Michniewicz.[33] His last international appearance came on 24 March 2022 in the 1–1 friendly draw with Scotland ahead of the World Cup playoffs, after which he has not featured for the senior team as of November 2025, largely due to club commitments and the emergence of other left-back options in the selection.[31][32]Career statistics
