Miles Storey
Miles James Storey (born 4 January 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for North West Counties League Division One North club Colne FC.[1] Storey began his career in the youth academies of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City before joining Swindon Town on a two-year scholarship in 2010, where he made his senior debut at age 16 in League One.[2] Over the next few seasons, he gained experience on loan at clubs including Shrewsbury Town, Salisbury City, Newport County, and Portsmouth, accumulating appearances in League One, League Two, and the National League while scoring his first senior goals.[2] In 2015, Storey moved to Scotland, signing with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he had a breakout season in the Scottish Premiership, scoring 9 goals in 20 appearances and helping the team reach the League Cup final.[2] He later transferred to Aberdeen in 2016, making 11 appearances and scoring 1 goal in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 season, before joining Partick Thistle on loan in 2017, where he scored 2 goals in the 2018–19 Scottish Championship.[2] Storey returned to Inverness in 2019, adding 11 more goals in the Championship before departing in 2021.[2] Since leaving the Scottish leagues, Storey has played in English non-league football, including stints with Hereford FC in the National League North (2021–23), a loan to Bury FC (March 2024), Clitheroe FC (mid-2024), and Curzon Ashton in the National League (2023–24), where he scored 1 goal in 23 league appearances.[2] He joined Colne FC on 28 December 2024, continuing his career at the ninth tier of English football as of November 2025.[1][3] Standing at 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) and right-footed, Storey has represented England at under-19 level and holds a career total of approximately 52 senior goals across more than 400 appearances in various leagues.[1][2]Club career
Youth career
Storey began his youth career in the academies of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City.[2] In 2010, he joined Swindon Town on a two-year scholarship.[4]Swindon Town
Storey signed his first professional contract with Swindon Town on 30 July 2012, at the age of 18, after progressing through the club's youth academy since joining on a scholarship in 2010.[4] He had already made his senior debut the previous year, on 30 April 2011, coming on as a substitute in a 0–2 League One defeat to Oldham Athletic at the County Ground.[5] Although opportunities were limited in the first team during Swindon's promotion-winning 2011–12 League Two campaign under manager Paolo Di Canio, Storey gradually earned a place in the senior setup, contributing to the club's ascent to League One. Between 2011 and 2016, Storey made 37 appearances for Swindon across all competitions, scoring 6 goals, primarily as a versatile forward capable of playing on either flank or centrally.[6] With limited starts at the County Ground—often behind established strikers like Nile Ranger and Andy Williams—he was loaned out multiple times to build match fitness and experience in competitive environments, reflecting Swindon's strategy of developing young talent through external exposure. Storey's first loan came in October 2013 to Conference Premier side Salisbury City on a one-month deal, where he featured in 3 matches without finding the net, gaining valuable minutes in non-league football.[7] In January 2014, he joined League One rivals Shrewsbury Town on loan until May, appearing in 6 games as the Shrews fought relegation, though he did not score.[8] His most productive lower-league stint followed in August 2014 with a season-long loan to League Two club Portsmouth, during which he made 17 appearances and netted 2 goals, helping the side to a mid-table finish while adapting to the demands of Fratton Park.[9] The 2015 loans marked a shift toward higher-level opportunities. In January 2015, Storey moved to League Two Newport County on loan until the end of the season, contributing 18 appearances and 2 goals in a campaign that saw the Exiles secure survival on the final day.[10] Later that year, on 1 September 2015, he joined Scottish Premiership outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle on an initial loan until January 2016, which was extended to the season's end after impressing manager John Hughes with his pace and finishing.[11] In 35 Scottish Premiership outings, Storey scored 13 goals—a career-high return—including early strikes in a 2–1 win over Aberdeen on 26 September 2015 and a consolation in a 1–3 home loss to Celtic on 29 November 2015, showcasing his ability against top-tier defenses.[12] His form at Inverness, where he also netted in the Scottish Cup and League Cup, highlighted his breakthrough potential beyond English lower divisions. Storey's contract with Swindon expired at the end of June 2016, leading to his release as the club opted not to renew amid a squad rebuild under new ownership.[13]Aberdeen
Storey joined Aberdeen on a permanent basis on 1 July 2016, signing a two-year contract after his Swindon Town deal expired, in a free transfer agreed the previous month.[14][13] Having gained experience on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle during the 2015–16 Scottish Premiership season, where he scored 13 goals in 37 appearances, Storey sought to establish himself at a club challenging for European qualification.[13] His move represented a step up in competitive demands, transitioning from English League One to a top Scottish side with ambitions in both domestic and continental competitions. Storey made his debut for Aberdeen on 14 July 2016, substituting in during a 3–0 home victory over FK Ventspils in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.[15] He featured in two of Aberdeen's Europa League qualifying ties that summer (against Ventspils and Maribor), including the away leg against Ventspils (a 1–0 win) and both legs versus Maribor (ending in a 1–2 aggregate defeat after extra time), providing early exposure to European football.[16] However, his role remained peripheral, often as a substitute, amid competition from established forwards like Adam Rooney and Jayden Stockley. Over the 2016–17 season, Storey recorded 21 appearances across all competitions, starting just twice and primarily operating from the bench.[16] He scored his first goal for the club on 20 August 2016, netting the winner in a 2–1 Scottish Premiership victory over Partick Thistle at Pittodrie Stadium.[17] A second goal followed in the 2017–18 season opener, a 2–0 Premiership win against Hamilton Academical on 6 August 2017, assisted by Graeme Shinnie.[18] Despite these moments, Storey's limited starts—totaling only 180 minutes in the league—highlighted his challenges in displacing the first-choice attackers, as Aberdeen finished second in the Premiership and reached the League Cup semi-finals.[19] Storey's stint at Aberdeen underscored the intensity of Scottish top-flight football, where his pace and finishing were assets in brief cameos but insufficient for consistent selection in a squad prioritizing experience and proven goalscorers. Finding opportunities limited, he departed the club on 11 August 2017, transferring to Partick Thistle for an undisclosed fee after just over a year at Pittodrie.[20]Partick Thistle
Storey joined Partick Thistle on 11 August 2017, signing a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee following his departure from Aberdeen, where he had limited opportunities in the previous season.[21][22] He made his debut for the club the same day, coming off the bench in a 1–0 home defeat to Celtic.[23] Storey scored his first goal for Partick Thistle on 21 October 2017, netting a 92nd-minute winner in a 2–1 victory over Dundee at Firhill, securing the club's first Premiership win of the 2017–18 season.[24] He added a second goal shortly after, with a solo effort in a 1–0 win against St Johnstone on 28 October 2017.[25] Over his time at the club, Storey made 71 appearances across all competitions, scoring 5 goals.[26] In the 2017–18 Scottish Premiership season, Storey featured regularly as Partick Thistle finished 11th, avoiding direct relegation by a narrow margin ahead of Ross County. His contributions in attack helped the team secure vital points in the relegation battle. Following the season, in May 2018, Storey was placed on the transfer list amid the club's cost-cutting measures after a poor campaign.[27] However, he remained at Firhill by signing a revised one-year contract on reduced terms in July 2018.[28] During the 2018–19 season, Partick Thistle struggled in the Premiership and finished ninth, but were relegated after losing the promotion/relegation playoff to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Storey was released on 9 May 2019 as the club opted not to offer him a new contract following their drop to the Scottish Championship.[29]Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Storey rejoined Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a permanent two-year contract on 3 August 2019, following his release from Partick Thistle earlier that summer.[30][31] He made his first appearance for the club in the permanent spell as a substitute during the opening Championship match against Dundee United on the same day, which ended in a 4–1 defeat.[32][33] Storey then featured regularly, starting in the subsequent 2–1 home victory over Arbroath on 10 August, where he came off the bench to score the winning goal.[34][35] During the 2019–20 season, Storey played a key role in Inverness's promotion push in the Scottish Championship, making 34 appearances and scoring 5 goals in league play alone, with notable contributions including strikes against teams like Queen of the South.[12] The campaign was curtailed in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Inverness finishing fifth and missing out on the promotion playoffs. In the following 2020–21 season, he continued as a squad regular, adding 26 league appearances and 3 goals, helping the team secure fourth place before a playoff exit to Raith Rovers.[12] Across both seasons, Storey featured in 48 matches in all competitions, netting 8 goals overall.[12] Storey's time at Inverness built on his successful loan spell with the club in 2015–16, where he had scored 13 goals, providing familiarity and continuity to the forward line amid the team's efforts to stabilize in the second tier.[30] His contract expired at the end of the 2020–21 season, and he departed on 31 May 2021 as part of the club's financial restructuring in response to ongoing pandemic-related challenges.Non-league career
Following the end of his contract at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Storey signed for Hereford FC on a non-contract basis in June 2021.[36] Over two seasons from 2021 to 2023 in the National League North, he made 73 appearances and scored 10 goals across league and cup competitions, including a run in the play-offs during the 2021–22 campaign.[37] In June 2023, Storey moved to Curzon Ashton, remaining in the National League North.[38] He featured in 23 matches during the 2023–24 season, netting once, before a brief loan spell to Bury in March 2024 where he appeared four times over a 28-day period prior to recall.[39] Later that year, in June, Storey joined Clitheroe on a short-term basis in the Northern Premier League Division One West, recording four appearances before departing in December.[40] Storey then signed with Colne F.C. in December 2024, dropping to the North West Counties League Division One North.[3] As of November 2025, he had registered 18 appearances and one goal in part-time regional football, adapting to a lower-tier environment with continued involvement as a forward.[1]International career
Youth career
Storey earned a call-up to the England under-19 squad in November 2012, based on his promising form with Swindon Town's youth and senior teams, where he had scored three goals in seven first-team appearances that season, including a brace in a League Cup tie against Aston Villa.[41][42] He made his sole appearance for the England U19s on 13 November 2012, starting in a 1–0 friendly victory over Finland at New Bucks Head Stadium in Telford, where he played 62 minutes before being substituted by Adebayo Azeez.[43][42] Storey did not feature in any further youth internationals at the U19 level or earn caps at other youth levels such as U18.[44]Senior career
Storey has not earned any senior international caps for England or any other nation as of November 2025.[19] As an English player born in West Bromwich with no reported dual nationality, he was eligible solely for the England national team.[19] His professional career, spent predominantly in the lower tiers of English football and the Scottish leagues, did not produce the standout performances required for consideration by the England senior squad selectors.[19] Despite earlier representation at youth levels, including the under-19 team, Storey did not advance to the senior international stage.[19]Career statistics
