Milot Rashica
Milot Rashica is a Kosovar professional footballer who plays as a right winger for Turkish Süper Lig club Beşiktaş and the Kosovo national team. Born on 28 June 1996 in Vushtrri, Kosovo, he stands at 1.78 meters tall and holds dual nationality with Albania. Rashica began his youth career with local clubs KF Kurda and KF Kosova Vushtrri before making his senior debut at age 16 with KF Vushtrri in the Kosovar Superliga, where he scored nine goals in 21 appearances.[1] Rashica moved to Dutch club Vitesse in 2015, where he developed over three seasons, making 100 appearances and scoring 15 goals across all competitions. In 2018, he transferred to SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, enjoying his most prolific period with 100 appearances and 27 goals, including a standout 2019–20 season with eight goals. He joined Norwich City in the English Premier League in 2021 for a reported €11.5 million, but struggled with injuries and form during their relegation, scoring 2 goals in 40 appearances before his departure. In 2022, Rashica was loaned to Galatasaray, where he contributed four goals in 26 league games, helping the club secure the Süper Lig title. He signed permanently with Beşiktaş in August 2023 on a four-year contract, and as of November 2025, has made over 90 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals in the Süper Lig.[2] Internationally, Rashica debuted for Kosovo in 2016 and has earned 61 caps with 12 goals as of November 2025, becoming a key figure in their campaigns, including UEFA Nations League promotions. Known for his pace, dribbling, and versatility on both wings, Rashica's career trajectory reflects his rise from Kosovar roots to European competitions.[1]Club career
Early career
Milot Rashica was born on 28 June 1996 in Vushtrri, Kosovo (then part of FR Yugoslavia), to ethnic Albanian parents.[2] His father, Nexhmedin Rashica, worked as a dentist, but young Milot showed no interest in following that path, instead developing a passion for football amid the challenges of post-war Kosovo.[3] Born just before the Kosovo War erupted in 1998, Rashica's family faced displacement when he was two years old, forcing them to rebuild their lives in a region scarred by conflict, where football emerged as a vital source of community and hope.[4] In this environment, where enthusiasm for the sport ran deep among locals, Rashica began honing his skills in informal settings, reflecting the widespread popularity of football as a unifying force in Kosovo society.[5] Rashica's structured football journey started in the youth ranks of KF Kurda from 2008 to 2012, followed by a move to the youth academy of hometown club KF Vushtrria in 2012.[2] By 2013, at the age of 16, he had progressed to the senior team after a brief trial stint abroad that he declined, making his professional debut for Vushtrria in the Kosovo Superliga.[1] Over the next two seasons, he became a regular starter, contributing significantly with 21 appearances and 9 goals, showcasing his potential as a dynamic winger despite the league's modest resources.[1] Recognizing the constrained development opportunities in Kosovo's domestic football landscape, Rashica decided to seek greater challenges abroad at age 18, leading to his transfer to Europe in 2015.[6] This move marked the end of his formative years in Kosovo and the beginning of his professional career with Vitesse in the Netherlands.[7]Vitesse
Rashica joined Vitesse Arnhem's youth academy from KF Vushtrria in Kosovo on 1 July 2015, marking his entry into professional European football.[8] He was rapidly promoted to the senior squad under manager Rob Maas, reflecting his potential as a versatile winger with strong dribbling and pace honed in Kosovo's lower divisions.[1] Rashica made his professional debut for Vitesse on 30 July 2015, substituting in during a 3–0 UEFA Europa League qualifying defeat to Southampton. His Eredivisie bow followed on 9 August 2015, starting and assisting in a 1–1 draw at Willem II.[9] The 2016–17 campaign proved his breakthrough, with Rashica establishing himself as a first-team regular on the right wing, contributing dynamic runs and creative play. He netted his maiden Eredivisie goal on 20 September 2015 in a 3–0 home victory over De Graafschap, signaling his growing influence. Rashica played a pivotal role in Vitesse's 2016–17 KNVB Cup triumph, their first major trophy in 125 years. He scored twice in the round-of-32 rout of De Dijk (7–2), appeared in the subsequent rounds including the quarter-final win over Willem II, and featured prominently in the semi-final 2–1 victory against Sparta Rotterdam. In the final on 30 April 2017 at De Kuip, Rashica started and delivered a key assist for Ricky van Wolfswinkel's opener in the 2–0 defeat of AZ Alkmaar.[10][11] Across all competitions from 2015 to 2018, Rashica amassed 102 appearances and 15 goals for Vitesse, evolving from a promising talent into a reliable attacker with 24 assists.[1] In January 2018, amid interest from larger clubs, he transferred to Werder Bremen for €8 million.[12]Werder Bremen
Milot Rashica transferred to SV Werder Bremen from Vitesse on 31 January 2018 for a reported fee of €7.5 million, signing a 4.5-year contract until June 2022.[13] The move marked his step up to the Bundesliga, where his pace and dribbling skills, developed during his time at Vitesse, proved instrumental in adapting to the league's intensity.[1] Rashica made his Bundesliga debut just three days later on 3 February 2018, starting in Werder's 2–1 away win over Schalke 04. He quickly settled, scoring his first goal for the club on 12 March 2018 in a 3–1 home victory against 1. FC Köln, curling a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.[14] Over his tenure, Rashica featured in 100 matches across all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing 19 assists.[9] His most productive season came in 2019–20, where he recorded 11 goals and 5 assists in 34 appearances across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Europa League.[15] In the Bundesliga alone, Rashica netted 8 goals in 28 matches, emerging as one of Werder's key attacking threats during a challenging campaign that saw the team finish 16th and enter the relegation playoff.[16] His contributions extended to Europe, where he scored 3 goals in the Europa League group stage against Ludogorets Razgrad (twice) and Young Boys, helping Werder finish third and advance to the round of 32. In the round of 32 tie against Rangers, Werder lost 3–1 on aggregate (3–1 away loss in first leg, 0–0 home draw in second leg) without Rashica scoring in the knockout phase. Rashica's standout performances included a brace in a 4–2 league win over Schalke 04 on 8 March 2019, showcasing his finishing ability with a low drive and a clinical tap-in.[17] Another highlight was opening the scoring against Bayern Munich on 14 December 2019 in a 6–1 defeat, rifling a long-range effort past Manuel Neuer early in the match.[18] Despite interest from larger clubs and ongoing contract discussions, Rashica remained with Werder until the end of his deal in 2021, amid the team's struggles.[19] His departure came shortly after Werder's direct relegation to the 2. Bundesliga on 22 May 2021, following a 4–2 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the final day, which sealed their 17th-place finish.[20]Norwich City
On 22 June 2021, Rashica joined Norwich City from Werder Bremen, signing a four-year contract until June 2025 for a reported transfer fee of £9.4 million.[21] The move represented a step up to the Premier League, where his prior Bundesliga experience at Werder Bremen served as preparation for the league's physical demands. Rashica was allocated the number 17 shirt and debuted in the opening match of the 2021–22 season against Liverpool on 14 August 2021.[22] During the 2021–22 Premier League campaign, Rashica featured in 31 matches across all competitions, scoring twice: once against Southampton on 30 October 2021 in the league, and Norwich's winner in an FA Cup third-round victory over Charlton Athletic in January 2022. Injuries hampered his progress, including a groin issue in December 2021 that sidelined him for several weeks after initial assessments underestimated its severity.[23] These setbacks, combined with the team's poor form, contributed to limited impact as Norwich were relegated to the Championship after finishing bottom with just 22 points. Following relegation, Rashica's role diminished further in the early stages of the 2022–23 Championship season, where he made only four appearances before being loaned out. On 1 September 2022, he joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan without a purchase option.[24] At the Turkish club, Rashica revived his form, making 26 league appearances and scoring four goals while providing six assists, helping Galatasaray secure the 2022–23 Süper Lig title with a 4–1 win over Ankaragücü on 30 May 2023.[16] His contributions included key performances in the title run-in, marking a successful temporary redemption after challenges in England.[25] Rashica returned to Norwich at the end of his loan on 30 June 2023 but did not feature further, as the club opted not to retain him beyond the summer transfer window.Beşiktaş
Milot Rashica joined Beşiktaş on a permanent transfer from Norwich City on 16 August 2023, signing a four-year contract until June 2027. The move, valued at €5.3 million, marked his return to the Süper Lig after a brief stint in England.[26] Rashica quickly integrated into the squad, making his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 Süper Lig victory over Pendikspor on 20 August 2023. He scored his first goal for the club on 3 September 2023, netting the winner in a 1-0 home win against Sivasspor. In the 2023-24 season, Rashica became a regular contributor in the Süper Lig, featuring in 29 matches and scoring 5 goals with 5 assists, helping Beşiktaş finish fourth in the league. His versatility on the wings added dynamism to the attack, with notable performances including a goal and assist in a 3-1 win over Kayserispor in March 2024. Rashica also played a role in Beşiktaş's successful Turkish Cup campaign, appearing in 6 matches as the team clinched the title with a 3-2 final victory over Trabzonspor on 23 May 2024.[27] Later that summer, on 3 August 2024, he featured in the delayed Turkish Super Cup, where Beşiktaş dominated Galatasaray 5-0 to secure their 10th title.[28] During the 2024-25 season, Rashica elevated his game, recording 3 goals and 8 assists in 28 Süper Lig appearances while contributing significantly in Europe. In the UEFA Europa League, he made 6 starts, scoring twice—including a crucial goal in a 2-1 group stage win over Bodø/Glimt—and providing an assist, aiding Beşiktaş's progression to the knockout rounds before their elimination. His prior loan experience at Norwich City from 2022-23 helped him adapt swiftly to the physical demands of Turkish football, allowing him to thrive in high-stakes matches. By the end of the campaign, Rashica had amassed 41 appearances across all competitions, with 5 goals and 12 assists overall.[29] As of 19 November 2025, Rashica has made 12 appearances in the 2025-26 season, scoring once in UEFA Conference League qualifiers against Lausanne-Sport on 21 August 2025 and adding an assist in the Süper Lig, where Beşiktaş sit competitively in the table. Across his Beşiktaş tenure to date, he has logged 94 appearances and 11 goals in all competitions.[30] His market value stands at €5 million, with his contract running until 2027 amid reports of interest from European clubs but no confirmed extension discussions.International youth career
Albania
Rashica represented Albania at various youth levels before switching allegiance to Kosovo. He began with the under-17 team, called up by coach Džemal Mustedanagić for the 2013 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round. Rashica made three appearances, scoring one goal in a 6–0 win over Liechtenstein on 23 October 2012.[31] In 2014, he featured for the Albania U19 team during the 2015 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers, playing five matches without scoring. Rashica also played for Albania's U21 side from 2015 to 2016, accumulating six caps and one goal during the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers. His debut came on 3 September 2015 in a 1–1 draw against Israel.Kosovo
Rashica made a single youth appearance for Kosovo, debuting for the U21 team on 15 June 2013 in the third-place play-off of the Valais Youth Cup against Egypt U20, entering as a substitute in the 45th minute. He recorded no goals in this outing.[32]Senior international career
Albania
Rashica earned his first senior cap for Albania on 29 March 2016, substituting into a 2–0 friendly win over Luxembourg during the second half.[33] His sole additional appearance came on 29 May 2016, again as a substitute in a 3–1 friendly victory against Qatar.[34] Across these two matches, he recorded no goals or assists.[33] Having previously featured for Albania's youth teams, Rashica's senior call-up followed his performances at Vitesse, though limited opportunities with the senior side prompted reflection on his international future.[1] Excluded from Albania's UEFA Euro 2016 squad, he opted to switch allegiance to Kosovo in August 2016, driven by strong personal and familial connections to his birthplace in Vushtrri.[35] At the time, FIFA rules permitted such a change for players with fewer than three senior competitive appearances for their original association.[36] This decision marked the end of his brief association with Albania's senior team, transitioning to a long-term commitment with Kosovo.Kosovo
Milot Rashica earned his first senior cap for Kosovo on 5 September 2016, coming on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against Finland during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.[37] This appearance marked his permanent commitment to the Kosovo national team following a brief earlier involvement with Albania, where he had made two senior appearances in friendly matches earlier that year.[37] Since then, Rashica has established himself as a pivotal figure in Kosovo's attacking lineup, contributing creativity and pace from the wings or as an attacking midfielder. Rashica scored his debut goal for Kosovo on 14 October 2018, netting a stunning long-range strike in a 1–1 away draw against the Faroe Islands during the 2018–19 UEFA Nations League C, which helped secure a point in a crucial group match. Subsequent milestones include a brace in a 2–1 friendly victory over Malta on 4 June 2021, showcasing his finishing ability, and the winning goal in a 1–0 away friendly win against Armenia on 22 March 2024. His contributions extended to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification and multiple Nations League campaigns, including assists and goals that underscored his role in Kosovo's competitive fixtures against teams like Belarus and North Macedonia. In the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification, he scored the second goal in a 2–0 home win against Sweden on 8 September 2025. As of 19 November 2025, Rashica has accumulated 67 senior appearances and 15 goals for Kosovo, reflecting his longevity and impact in major tournaments while serving as a key leader in the team's offensive strategy.[37]Career statistics
