Padmapriya (born Padmalochani; died 16 November 1997) was an Indian actress who predominantly worked in Kannada and Tamil-language films, with additional appearances in Telugu and Malayalam cinema. Active from 1974 to 1995, she appeared in approximately 80 South Indian films, gaining prominence in Kannada cinema through her debut in Bangarada Gudi (1976) and breakthrough roles alongside Dr. Rajkumar in three major hits of 1978: Operation Diamond Racket, Thayige Thakka Maga, and Shankar Guru. Her Tamil films included collaborations with leading actors such as M. G. Ramachandran in Maduraiyai Meetta Sundharapandiyan (1978) and Sivaji Ganesan in Vaira Nenjam (1975) and Mohana Punnagai (1980). Born in Karnataka to a Tamil family, Padmapriya began her career with the Telugu film Adapillala Tandri (1974). She was fluent in all four South Indian languages and often dubbed her own lines. In her personal life, she married producer Srinivasa Chakravarthy in 1983, with whom she had a daughter, Vasumathi; the couple divorced after a year, and she lived with her parents in T. Nagar, Chennai, until her death. Padmapriya died on 16 November 1997 at age 40 from heart disease and kidney failure. Her daughter Vasumathi briefly attempted a career in films but later settled in the United Kingdom.Early life

Padmapriya Janakiraman was born on 28 February 1980 in Delhi, India, into a Tamil family. Her father, Janakiraman, served as a brigadier in the Indian Army, and her mother is Vijaya. Due to her father's military postings, she grew up primarily in Secunderabad, Telangana, where she attended Kendriya Vidyalaya for schooling. She has an elder brother. Padmapriya earned a B.Com degree from Loyola Academy in Secunderabad, followed by an MBA in finance from the Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS) in Harihar, Karnataka, and a Master's degree in Public Administration from New York University.[1][2] From a young age, she trained in Bharatanatyam, beginning lessons at age three under guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar. Before entering the film industry, Padmapriya worked as an analyst at GE Capital in Hyderabad. In 2001, she was crowned Miss Andhra Pradesh, which opened doors to modeling. She balanced part-time modeling with her finance career until she was offered her first film role, prompting her to take a two-year break from her job.
