Ariaz (Korean: 아리아즈; stylized in all caps as ARIAZ) was a South Korean girl group formed by Rising Star Entertainment, a subsidiary of Star Empire Entertainment, consisting originally of six members: Yunji (leader and main vocalist), Dawon (main vocalist), Sihyeon (lead vocalist and visual), Yeori (main rapper and main dancer), Hyogyeong (lead vocalist and lead rapper), and Jueun (sub-vocalist and maknae). They debuted on October 24, 2019, with their first mini album Grand Opera and the title track "Moonlight ARIA." Jueun entered an indefinite hiatus in September 2021 due to mental health issues stemming from malicious comments and bullying.[1] The group released their first digital single, "I Like U," in June 2021, followed by "Hot & Cold" in September 2021, and gained some attention for their grand opera-inspired concept and dance-pop sound, though they struggled with limited promotions under their agency.[2] On April 9, 2022, the agency announced that Yunji, Hyogyeong, and Yeori had terminated their contracts and left the group; the next day, Jueun also announced her departure.[3][4] This left Dawon and Sihyeon as the only remaining members under Rising Star Entertainment, but the group has been inactive since 2022 with no further releases or promotions as of November 2025. Formation and pre-debut
Rising Star Entertainment, a subsidiary of Star Empire Entertainment, formed the girl group Ariaz in 2019 as its first act. The label, established to focus on new talent development, selected six members through internal auditions and evaluations of existing trainees who had been under Star Empire since as early as 2016.[6][7] The original lineup consisted of leader Yunji, Dawon, Sihyeon, Yeori, Hyogyeong, and Jueun, with members having varying trainee durations that contributed to the group's cohesive preparation. Yunji and Sihyeon gained early visibility as contestants on Mnet's survival program Produce 101 in 2016, where they represented Star Empire but did not advance far enough to debut from the show. Hyogyeong, meanwhile, participated in YG Entertainment's MIXNINE in 2017–2018, reaching the top rankings among female contestants before the planned girl group debut was canceled due to contract issues.[6][8] During their pre-debut phase from late 2018 through mid-2019, the members underwent intensive group training, including vocal, dance, and performance sessions to refine their synchronized style. This period emphasized building chemistry among the trainees, many of whom had overlapping experiences as backup dancers for Star Empire artists like Nine Muses and ZE:A. Ariaz officially debuted as a six-member girl group on October 24, 2019, under Rising Star Entertainment, releasing their first extended play Grand Opera, which consisted of five tracks including the title song "Moonlight Aria."[11] The EP's lead single featured a dramatic synth-driven sound blending K-pop with operatic elements, accompanied by a music video that showcased theatrical choreography and fantasy-themed visuals.[12] Grand Opera peaked at number 33 on the Gaon Album Chart and sold 1,028 copies in its debut week.[13] The group promoted Grand Opera through appearances on major music programs, including performances of "Moonlight Aria" on Music Bank on October 25, November 1, and November 8, 2019, as well as The Show on October 29, 2019.[14][15][16] These stages highlighted the members' synchronized dance routines and vocal harmonies, helping to build initial fan engagement despite limited mainstream exposure. In 2021, Ariaz shifted focus to a remake project revisiting 2000s hits, starting with the digital single "I Like U" on June 26, 2021, a cover of Jewelry's 2003 track "니가 참 좋아" (I Really Like You).[17] The remake retained the original's bubbly pop melody while incorporating contemporary production and the group's vocal dynamics. On September 15, 2021, Rising Star Entertainment announced that Jueun would take an indefinite hiatus from group activities due to emotional anxiety and distress caused by malicious comments and false rumors, leading the group to promote as five members for their subsequent comeback.[21] This period of uncertainty culminated in major lineup changes in 2022. On April 10, 2022, Rising Star Entertainment issued an official statement revealing that Yunji, Yeori, and Hyogyeong had terminated their contracts with the agency, effective immediately, citing deteriorated management conditions amid the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting frustrations during their 2 years and 6 months of activity.[3] The announcement expressed regret over the departures while affirming that the remaining members—Sihyeon, Dawon, and Jueun—had renewed their contracts and would continue ARIAZ activities in music, acting, and influencer roles within their capacities, with further details to follow.[3] However, later that same day, Jueun confirmed her departure from ARIAZ via a personal Instagram post, leaving the group as a duo consisting of Dawon and Sihyeon.[22] With the departure of four members, ARIAZ disbanded. No additional group music releases, promotions, or activities have occurred since April 2022. Dawon (Korean: 다원; born Lee Da-won on December 2, 1996) serves as the main vocalist of Ariaz and has been a member since the group's debut in 2019.[23] She stands at 156.9 cm tall and has blood type O.[1] Prior to her debut, Dawon auditioned for the survival show Mixnine and appeared as a contestant on episode 6 of I Can See Your Voice season 6.[1] She graduated from Baekje National University of Arts with a major in Media Music and K-pop Vocal.[1] In the group's activities, Dawon has contributed significantly to vocal performances and, alongside Sihyeon, to planning choreography concepts and styles, particularly during the transition to a duo lineup.[24] Sihyeon (Korean: 시현; born Kang Si-hyeon on July 15, 1998) holds the positions of lead vocalist and visual in Ariaz, joining at debut and remaining active through all promotions.[25] She measures 160 cm in height with blood type A.[1] Before debuting, Sihyeon participated in Produce 101, where she was eliminated in round 2 at 61st place, and Mixnine, exiting in round 2 at 29th place; she graduated from Surak High School.[1] Sihyeon has been instrumental in the group's visual identity and vocal harmonies, collaborating with Dawon on creative aspects like choreography planning amid lineup changes.[24] Since the departures in 2022, Dawon and Sihyeon have maintained their affiliation with Ariaz under Rising Star Entertainment, though the group has seen no new releases or promotions as a duo.[4]Former members

Prior to joining Ariaz, she appeared as a trainee on Mnet's Produce 101 in 2016, where she was eliminated in episode 5 at rank 84, and later on MIXNINE in 2017–2018, ranking 36th overall but not debuting due to the boys' team victory. Her contract with Rising Star Entertainment was terminated on April 10, 2022, alongside two other members, following discussions over management concerns. As of 2025, Yunji has not pursued major public activities in the entertainment industry.[26][27][1] Yeori (born Choi Yeo-ri on September 8, 1999) was the main rapper, main dancer, and vocalist, contributing to Ariaz's performances from its 2019 debut through early 2022. Like Yunji and Hyogyeong, Yeori's contract ended on April 10, 2022, as confirmed by the agency, with no specific personal reasons detailed beyond the collective decision. She also released independent singles under the name Meogayeong between 2014 and 2015.
