Ashley Hicks
Ashley Hicks (born 1963) is a British architect, interior designer, and author known for blending historical influences with eclectic, provocative aesthetics in furniture, textiles, and built environments.[1][2]
The son of the celebrated 20th-century interior designer David Hicks, he trained at the Architectural Association in London and initially collaborated briefly with his father before founding his independent practice.[1][3] Hicks has extended his father's geometric and colorful legacy through licensed collections of fabrics, wallpapers, and carpets under the David Hicks by Ashley Hicks imprint since 2003, while developing his own furniture lines, such as the 1997 Jantar Mantar series crafted with Indian artisans.[3][1]
His authorship includes detailed works on design history, such as David Hicks: Designer (2002), David Hicks: A Life of Design (2009), and Buckingham Palace: The Interiors (2018), alongside explorations of landmark interiors like Knole.[3] In practice, Hicks has undertaken residential and commercial projects across the UK, Europe, and the United States, producing custom objects like resin gem towers and hand-painted panels, and recently revitalizing his father's former Albany apartment in London with murals and bespoke furnishings that echo yet diverge from familial precedents.[2][3][1]
