Cosmic Angels
Cosmic Angels (コズミックエンジェル, Kozumikkuenjeru) is a professional wrestling stable active in the Japanese promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom, known for its idol-inspired aesthetic, emphasis on storytelling and unity, and roster of charismatic performers.[1] Formed on November 14, 2020, as a sub-unit within the established STARS faction, the group quickly established its identity through synchronized dance routines and a philosophy promoting sisterhood and inclusivity in joshi puroresu, regardless of background, age, or appearance.[2] It became an independent stable on December 20, 2020, under the leadership of Tam Nakano, with co-founders Mina Shirakawa and Unagi Sayaka.[1] The stable has undergone significant evolution, expanding through mergers and member additions while experiencing key departures. In June 2022, it absorbed the freelance collective COLOR's, increasing its size to eight members and making it Stardom's largest unit at the time; this included wrestlers such as Hikari Shimizu, SAKI, Rina Amikura, and Yuko Sakurai.[2] Notable exits include Unagi Sayaka in December 2022 and Mina Shirakawa in April 2023, but the group continued to grow with additions like Natsupoi in July 2022, Waka Tsukiyama in September 2021, and later recruits such as Saori Anou, Aya Sakura, Sayaka Kurara, and Yuna Mizumori.[1] Tam Nakano retired from professional wrestling in April 2025 following a career vs. career loss; as of November 2025, Cosmic Angels remains one of Stardom's prominent factions under de facto leadership of Natsupoi and Saori Anou, with a core roster of five active members: Natsupoi, Saori Anou, Yuna Mizumori, Aya Sakura, and Sayaka Kurara, and actively competing in multi-woman and tag team divisions.[3][4] Cosmic Angels has achieved considerable success in Stardom's championship landscape, with its members collectively holding multiple titles that highlight the stable's versatility in singles, tag, and trios competition. Early accomplishments include winning the Artist of Stardom Championship on December 16, 2020, shortly after independence, as well as two Future of Stardom Championships by Mina Shirakawa and Unagi Sayaka.[5][2] Tam Nakano, as a flagship member, captured the Wonder of Stardom Championship (later renamed World of Stardom) but vacated it in November 2023 due to injury; she has also secured three Artist of Stardom reigns and a Goddesses of Stardom title alongside Natsupoi.[6][7] In 2025, Aya Sakura and Sayaka Kurara are the New Blood Tag Team Champions (as of November), while the stable previously defended the Artist of Stardom titles in high-profile matches, including internal rivalries and tournaments like the Goddesses of Stardom Tag League.[8][9] The group's fan-favorite status is bolstered by events like their annual "Pot THE WORLD" fan gatherings, fostering a vibrant community around their cosmic, performance-driven ethos.[10]History
Formation (2020)
Cosmic Angels was formed on November 14, 2020, during Stardom's Korakuen New Landscape event at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, as a creative sub-group within the larger Stars unit.[11] The faction was founded by Tam Nakano, who teamed with Mina Shirakawa and the debuting Unagi Sayaka—formerly of Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling—in a six-woman tag team match against Stars' MK☆Sisters (Starlight Kid and Koguma) and Gokigen Death, securing a victory in 12:32.[11] Following the match, Nakano officially named the trio Cosmic Angels, with Shirakawa describing their collective vision as a "space trip to grab big dreams," where she positioned herself as the group's "cabin attendant" to support their ambitions.[11] Sayaka, making her Stardom debut at age 29 after transitioning from TJPW, pledged to climb to the top alongside her new partners, while Nakano sealed the announcement with a unifying "chef's kiss" gesture.[11][12] The initial goals of Cosmic Angels centered on pursuing expansive, dream-chasing narratives within Stardom's women's division, leveraging the members' distinct backgrounds to foster a sense of unity and aspiration.[11] Nakano, as the leader, aimed to highlight individuality through innovative teamwork, drawing from her rising popularity in Stars to create a faction that emphasized personal growth and bold performances.[12] This approach challenged the conventional structures of Stardom's units by introducing a sub-group dynamic that encouraged creative expression, with Sayaka's outsider perspective from TJPW adding fresh energy to the mix.[12] The group's formation marked an early shift toward more theatrical elements, including a Charlie's Angels-inspired skit to unveil Sayaka, blending pop culture references with wrestling to enhance their on-screen presence.[11] In their first competitive outing as an officially named unit beyond the debut match, Cosmic Angels captured gold on December 16, 2020, at Stardom's Road to Osaka Dream Cinderella event in Tokyo.[13] Tam Nakano, Mina Shirakawa, and Unagi Sayaka defeated Oedo Tai's Bea Priestley, Natsuko Tora, and Saki Kashima to win the Artist of Stardom Championships in a 14:47 bout rated at three-and-a-half stars, with Sayaka delivering a standout performance in the closing sequence and Nakano shining on the hot tag.[13][14] This victory, just one month after their formation, established the trio as a rising force and intensified faction rivalries, particularly with Oedo Tai, who had held the titles undefeated since November.[13] Early thematic elements emerged through their adoption of cosmic and angelic motifs, featuring ethereal, colorful attire and entrance routines that incorporated space-themed visuals and pop-infused music to evoke a sense of otherworldly artistry in the ring.[13]Expansion under Tam Nakano (2020–2025)
Under Tam Nakano's leadership, Cosmic Angels experienced significant growth through strategic recruitments that solidified its core structure and elevated its competitive presence in Stardom. On July 9, 2022, Natsupoi defected from Donna Del Mondo to join the stable, aligning with Nakano's vision and bringing her technical prowess to bolster the group's tag and trios divisions.[15] This was followed in April 2023 by Saori Anou's entry after the departures of Mina Shirakawa and Waka Tsukiyama, forming a prominent main trio with Nakano, Natsupoi, and Anou that shifted the stable's emphasis toward high-profile singles competitions and intense tag team rivalries.[16] On September 29, 2023, Yuna Mizumori officially joined after being pinned by Nakano in a match at New Blood 11, adding a powerhouse presence to the roster.[17] In early 2024, Sayaka Kurara became an apprentice, followed by Aya Sakura officially joining on April 12, 2024, introducing high-flying and youthful energy. These additions enhanced the unit's versatility, enabling deeper involvement in Stardom's major tournaments and defenses. The stable's expansion was marked by pivotal storylines that highlighted its rivalries and championship success. Early tensions with Oedo Tai culminated in Cosmic Angels (Nakano, Shirakawa, and Unagi Sayaka) capturing the Artist of Stardom Championship on December 16, 2020, in a trios match, initiating a record-setting 291-day reign with multiple defenses against various challengers until their loss on October 3, 2021.[18] Subsequent feuds with God's Eye, including high-stakes trios clashes in 2023, underscored the stable's resilience amid roster flux, as members like Natsupoi and Anou engaged in submission-heavy bouts that tested Cosmic Angels' unity.[19] These narratives emphasized themes of loyalty and evolution, positioning the group as a dynamic force in Stardom's landscape. Nakano's leadership emphasized a familial ethos, portraying Cosmic Angels as a "cosmic family" that prioritized emotional depth and character-driven performances over pure athleticism.[20] This approach fostered internal bonds but also surfaced tensions, such as the 2023 exits of Shirakawa to international opportunities and Sayaka to Oedo Tai, alongside Tsukiyama's departure, which prompted subgroup explorations to maintain cohesion.[16] Despite these challenges, Nakano's guidance sustained the stable's identity, blending whimsical entrance rituals with compelling in-ring storytelling. As Nakano's tenure progressed toward its conclusion in 2025, a dramatic buildup to her retirement intensified the stable's arcs. On March 3, 2025, at Stardom Nighter in Korakuen Hall, Nakano lost a "Loser Leaves Stardom" match to Saya Kamitani, but a contractual stay allowed her one final opportunity.[21] This led to a Career vs. Career showdown for the World of Stardom Championship on April 27, 2025, at All Star Grand Queendom, where Kamitani's victory forced Nakano's retirement from the promotion.[22] In her post-match address, Nakano reaffirmed her enduring loyalty to Cosmic Angels, vowing to support the group externally while ending her exclusive Stardom contract.[23] Throughout this era, Cosmic Angels maintained strong showings in Stardom's premier events, notably the 5 Star Grand Prix from 2021 to 2024, where multiple members advanced in blocks and qualifiers as a coordinated unit. For instance, in 2024, Yuna Mizumori secured a Red Block spot, while Natsupoi and Anou contributed to the stable's collective momentum in prior years' tournaments.[24]Post-Tam Nakano era (2025–present)
Following Tam Nakano's retirement in a career vs. career match against Saya Kamitani at Stardom All Star Grand Queendom on April 27, 2025, Cosmic Angels underwent a leadership transition with Natsupoi and Saori Anou emerging as de facto co-leaders.[22][23] This shift emphasized continuity in the stable's "cosmic family" theme, as both wrestlers, longtime members since the unit's early days, pledged to uphold Nakano's vision of creative expression and unity in Stardom.[23] Their joint efforts focused on mentoring younger talents while maintaining the group's high-energy, theatrical style in matches and promos.[25] A pivotal moment came on September 29, 2025, at Stardom in Tsugaru, where Saori Anou and Sayaka Kurara secured a major tag team victory over Mi Vida Loca's Bozilla and Akira Kurogane, showcasing Anou's submission expertise and Kurara's resilience in a hard-fought bout.[26] As of November 2025, current storylines revolve around feuds with emerging Stardom factions, intensified by the promotion's ongoing talent exodus that has seen several high-profile departures throughout the year.[27][28] Cosmic Angels has prioritized defenses of its unit integrity, engaging in inter-faction clashes to assert dominance and recruit amid the instability. Aya Sakura's deepening integration has introduced high-flying elements, with her aerial maneuvers providing dynamic offense in group matches and helping to bridge the stable's veteran core with its evolving roster.[29][30] The stable has faced challenges in adjusting to Nakano's absence, particularly in maintaining momentum without her charismatic presence, though this has spotlighted younger members' growth. Natsupoi, for instance, received a significant singles push around All Star Grand Queendom in spring 2025, competing in high-stakes matches that tested her leadership potential and aimed to elevate her as a top contender.[23] These efforts have helped Cosmic Angels navigate internal transitions while contributing to Stardom's broader narrative of renewal.[31]Activities in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (2021–present)
Cosmic Angels' involvement with New Japan Pro-Wrestling began amid the deepening partnership between NJPW and Stardom, established in 2021 to facilitate cross-promotional appearances by Stardom wrestlers on NJPW cards.[32] The stable's initial high-profile crossover occurred at Wrestle Kingdom 16 on January 5, 2022, where leader Tam Nakano teamed with Saya Kamitani to defeat Mayu Iwatani and Starlight Kid in a showcase tag team match, marking one of the first instances of Cosmic Angels representation on an NJPW major event. Subsequent appearances highlighted individual members' opportunities within NJPW's international touring shows. In 2024, Mina Shirakawa competed in a singles match against Johnnie Robbie at Strong Style Evolved on December 15, securing a victory that underscored her rising status in cross-promotional contexts. This outing built on earlier Stardom-NJPW collaborations, though specific Cosmic Angels team efforts remained limited until later developments. In 2025, following Tam Nakano's departure from the stable, Cosmic Angels shifted toward collective showcases in joint NJPW-Stardom events. On October 5, Natsupoi, Saori Anou, and Sayaka Kurara represented the group in a six-woman tag team match at the NJPW x Stardom Historic X-Over in Guangzhou, China, defeating H.A.T.E. (Natsuko Tora, Rina, and Ruaka) in 12:09 to demonstrate the stable's continued viability in inter-promotional rivalries.[33] This victory highlighted the post-Nakano era's emphasis on ensemble performances abroad. These NJPW outings have broadened Cosmic Angels' visibility beyond Stardom, fostering opportunities for multi-woman tags that integrate the stable into larger Bushiroad ecosystem narratives.Freelance and international work (2022–present)
In 2022, members of Cosmic Angels began engaging in freelance bookings outside of Stardom commitments, marking the stable's initial forays into independent circuits. Mina Shirakawa, a founding member, participated in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) events, including a victory over Leila Grey on the October 10 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation taped in Washington, D.C.[34]. Similarly, Unagi Sayaka took on indie dates in Japan while still affiliated with the group, debuting for Professional Wrestling Just Tap Out on October 7 against Aoi, ahead of her full departure from Stardom later that year.[35] These appearances allowed members to gain exposure on non-Stardom platforms without conflicting with the stable's core activities.[36] The group's international presence expanded through AEW collaborations in 2023 and 2024, primarily driven by Shirakawa's high-profile excursions. Shirakawa competed in multiple AEW matches, including tag team bouts at events like Forbidden Door and Dynamite episodes, where she showcased her technical style against American talent.[37] These outings tied into broader cross-promotional opportunities, with Shirakawa's performances earning praise for bridging joshi and Western audiences. By 2024, her AEW stint intensified, featuring singles and multi-woman matches that highlighted Cosmic Angels' influence abroad, even as Shirakawa navigated her evolving role within the stable before her eventual exit.[38] In 2025, Cosmic Angels continued freelance momentum with Shirakawa's transition to full-time AEW status following her Stardom departure on March 31. She signed with AEW, reuniting with former allies like Mariah May and competing regularly on Dynamite and Collision, including a notable loss to Megan Bayne on November 5 in a Blood & Guts qualifier. This move represented the stable's growing global footprint, with Shirakawa carrying the Cosmic Angels banner in U.S.-based storylines. Other members, such as Yuna Mizumori, maintained freelance flexibility after her own 2022 departure from Gatoh Move, contributing to the group's adaptable structure.[39] Balancing these external commitments with Stardom obligations posed challenges for the stable, often resulting in temporary absences. Shirakawa's 2024 AEW run, for instance, led to reduced appearances in Japan, straining group dynamics until her 2025 full-time shift.[40] Such scheduling conflicts underscored the demands of freelance work but also enhanced Cosmic Angels' reputation for versatility across promotions.[37]Members

Tam Nakano served as the founder and leader of Cosmic Angels from its inception in December 2020 until her retirement in April 2025.[22] She established the faction alongside Mina Shirakawa and Unagi Sayaka after defecting from STARS, emphasizing a vibrant, idol-influenced aesthetic blended with competitive wrestling.[2] Nakano's leadership was pivotal in guiding the group through expansions and title pursuits, including her own successful defenses of the Wonder of Stardom Championship, which she held twice during her tenure, solidifying her as an iconic figure in the stable's history.[23] Her departure came after losing a Career vs. Career match to Saya Kamitani at Stardom All Star Grand Queendom on April 27, 2025, forcing her retirement from Stardom and professional wrestling after nine years.[22][46] Mina Shirakawa was an original member of Cosmic Angels from December 2020 to April 2023, contributing to the faction's early success as a core trio with Nakano and Sayaka.[2] Known for her glamorous heel persona, Shirakawa brought a charismatic, provocative edge to the group, often highlighting its entertainment-focused identity through her in-ring style and alliances like Club Venus.[16] She departed the stable on April 15, 2023, at the Stardom Cinderella Tournament finals, announcing the formation of Club Venus as an independent unit while expressing gratitude to Nakano for her guidance.[16][47] Unagi Sayaka joined as an original member in November 2020, helping Cosmic Angels secure its first championship, the Artist of Stardom Titles, just a month later.[2] A strong-style brawler recognized for her aggressive, high-impact matches, Sayaka added a gritty contrast to the faction's colorful dynamic.[48] She effectively left the group in October 2022 upon becoming a free agent after ending her Stardom contract, though she nominally retained membership status at the time; her freelance pursuits marked the end of her full-time involvement.[48] Several short-term members joined and departed Cosmic Angels during its early expansion, serving as transitional figures in feuds and roster builds. Mai Sakurai entered in August 2021 as the fourth member, bringing dance and idol elements before leaving on February 12, 2022, to join Donna Del Mondo for a more wrestling-focused path.[49][2] Waka Tsukiyama, who had aligned with the group post-formation, exited alongside Shirakawa in April 2023 to join Club Venus, following a tenure marked by efforts to prove her value amid internal pressures.[16][50]Associates
The Cosmic Angels stable has occasionally collaborated with wrestlers outside its core membership, forming temporary alliances for specific matches or events without integrating them into the group's thematic or entrance elements. These associates typically provide support in multi-woman bouts or cross-promotional appearances, leveraging shared rivalries against factions like Oedo Tai or God's Eye. Such partnerships emphasize tactical backup rather than long-term commitment, allowing Cosmic Angels to bolster their numbers in high-stakes scenarios.[51] A primary group of associates stems from the freelance unit GPU COLOR'S, which allied with Cosmic Angels in June 2022 following a tag team match at Korakuen Hall where Cosmic Angels emerged victorious but extended an offer of equal partnership instead of subordination. COLOR'S members, including leader SAKI, Hikari Shimizu, Rina Amikura, and Yuko Sakurai, contribute idol-inspired flair and veteran experience to occasional Stardom events, enhancing the stable's depth without joining full-time due to their independent scheduling across promotions like Diana and Ice Ribbon. This collaboration has enabled joint defenses and multi-faction skirmishes, with COLOR'S appearing sporadically through 2023 to support Cosmic Angels against larger threats.[51][52] Within Stardom, high-flyer AZM from the rival Neo Genesis unit has aligned intermittently with Cosmic Angels for tag and trios matches, particularly in 2023 and 2025. Notable examples include AZM joining Cosmic Angels representatives like Aya Sakura and Saori Anou in an eight-woman tag against H.A.T.E. in 2023, providing aerial support to counter power-based offenses. In May 2025, at the NJPW Wrestling Dontaku event, Yuna Mizumori of Cosmic Angels teamed with AZM and Starlight Kid to defeat Oedo Tai members, showcasing a brief crossover alliance amid inter-faction tensions. These pairings highlight AZM's role in adding speed and agility without adopting Cosmic Angels' cosmic motifs or attire.[53][54] Distinguishing these associates from full members, collaborations lack the shared elaborate entrances, coordinated costumes, or ongoing storyline integration typical of the stable's core roster. Instead, alliances form pragmatically around mutual opponents, such as in international tours or NJPW crossovers, ensuring flexibility for wrestlers maintaining primary affiliations elsewhere. For instance, while COLOR'S has participated in Stardom's larger events, their involvement remains event-specific, avoiding the thematic immersion required of official members.[55]Subgroups
Current subgroups
As of November 2025, Cosmic Angels maintains several active tag and trios units to adapt to Stardom's diverse division formats, allowing members to compete in tag league tournaments, title defenses, and multi-woman matches without fragmenting the stable's core unity. These subgroups emphasize complementary styles, drawing from the members' individual strengths to broaden the faction's competitive range. The power-oriented tag team of Saori Anou and Sayaka Kurara formed in mid-2025, leveraging Anou's technical grappling and Kurara's brawling prowess for a hard-hitting approach suited to Stardom's tag division. They debuted as a unit during the Golden Week events, where they challenged established teams like H.A.T.E., establishing themselves through intense, ground-based exchanges.[56] This duo enhances Cosmic Angels' presence in heavyweight-style bouts, contributing to the stable's overall depth in non-aerial contests. A formal trios subgroup, Sakuraramon (Aya Sakura, Sayaka Kurara, and Yuna Mizumori), formed in 2024, focuses on rookie development and versatile teamwork. A key example of their collaboration is the New Blood Tag Team Championship held by Aya Sakura and Sayaka Kurara, captured on October 30, 2025.[57] This unit integrates younger members with veteran guidance, competing in trios and tag formats. Meanwhile, the aerial-focused tag team Cosmic Tropical Fairy Super Angel (Natsupoi and Yuna Mizumori), formed in 2023, highlights high-speed maneuvers, flips, and cooperative dives that align with Stardom's emphasis on athleticism. Active primarily in trios defenses alongside other members, such as in Artist of Stardom title matches against internal rivals, they provide flashy offense to complement the stable's broader lineup. For instance, in January 2025, Natsupoi teamed with Sakura and Yuna Mizumori in a high-stakes trios clash for the Artist of Stardom Championships.[58] Their role underscores Cosmic Angels' versatility, enabling quick-paced strategies in six-woman and tag scenarios. Saori Anou and Natsupoi have also excelled as a balanced tag unit in the 2025 Goddesses of Stardom Tag League, finishing the Red Goddess block undefeated at 3-0 before losing in the semifinals to wing☆gori on November 15, 2025. These configurations allow Cosmic Angels to field specialized lineups, maintaining momentum across Stardom's tag and trios landscapes while preserving the group's cohesive identity.[4]Former subgroups
The original core of Cosmic Angels formed as a trio consisting of Tam Nakano, Mina Shirakawa, and Unagi Sayaka in November 2020, initially operating as a subgroup within the Stars faction before evolving into the stable's foundation.[59] This unit captured the Artist of Stardom Championships on December 16, 2020, embarking on a record-setting reign of 291 days with seven successful defenses, which highlighted their synergy in trios competition and helped establish Cosmic Angels' pop idol-inspired aesthetic.[2] The trio lost the titles to Donna del Mondo's MaiHimePoi on October 3, 2021, marking the end of their championship run, though they continued to team sporadically until Unagi Sayaka's departure from Stardom in October 2022 to pursue a freelance career, which effectively disbanded the group due to her reduced involvement.[48] A prominent later trio emerged within Cosmic Angels featuring Tam Nakano, Saori Anou, and Natsupoi, solidifying around 2023 as the stable's frontline act amid internal expansions and external pressures.[60] This lineup emphasized intricate storyline arcs, including high-profile rivalries that propelled individual careers while reinforcing the faction's themes of creativity and resilience, such as Nakano's ongoing feud with Saya Kamitani. They captured the Artist of Stardom Championships in August 2024, using the reign to showcase coordinated performances before losing the titles to Neo Genesis on February 2, 2025.[61] The trio dissolved in April 2025 upon Nakano's retirement after a career-vs.-career defeat to Kamitani at All Star Grand Queendom, leaving Anou and Natsupoi to lead the stable into its post-Nakano era.[62] Additional short-lived tag teams formed within Cosmic Angels during transitional periods, such as the 2022 pairing of Mina Shirakawa and Unagi Sayaka, who challenged for the Goddesses of Stardom Championships on February 23 but fell short against FWC.[35] This collaboration, bridging Sayaka's freelance status with Shirakawa's ongoing role, dissolved amid escalating member exits, including Sayaka's prior Stardom departure and Shirakawa's own transition to free agency in March 2025 ahead of her AEW signing.[21]Chronology

The Cosmic Angels stable has secured several championships in World Wonder Ring Stardom, primarily through team efforts that highlight the unit's cohesion, as well as select individual triumphs by its representatives. These accomplishments underscore the stable's impact on Stardom's tag and trios divisions, with notable records in defense counts and reign lengths.[2][74] Key team titles include multiple Artist of Stardom Championship reigns, establishing benchmarks for longevity and defenses, alongside Goddesses of Stardom Championship victories that reinforced the stable's tag team prowess. Individual accolades, such as Tam Nakano's Wonder of Stardom Championship reign, were defended prominently as the stable's leader. The stable's members also participated in tournaments like the 2022 Cinderella Tournament, advancing entries that showcased their depth, though without an outright victory.[2][75][76]| Title | Winners (as Cosmic Angels representatives) | Date Won | Date Lost | Duration | Notes |
