Early life and education
Jake Manley was born on August 23, 1991, in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.[3][9] He grew up in this suburban city near Toronto, where he developed a strong passion for movies from a young age, often inspired by their storytelling and emotional depth.[10] Little is publicly known about his family background, but his upbringing in Oakville provided a supportive environment for his early creative pursuits.[9] During his high school years, Manley immersed himself in filmmaking, collaborating with friends to create short movies that they even premiered at a local cinema in Oakville.[10] Although he was too shy to participate in school plays or auditions at the time, this hands-on experience with behind-the-scenes work sparked his interest in the entertainment industry and gradually drew him toward acting.[11][10] Manley attended and graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Oakville, completing his secondary education there before pursuing further opportunities in film and acting.[9][12]Personal life
Manley began dating actress Jocelyn Hudon in 2015 after meeting through a mutual self-tape coach in Los Angeles.[13][14] The couple announced their engagement on August 26, 2020, following five years together, with Manley proposing during an anniversary trip inspired by the television series Gilmore Girls.[15][16] They eloped on October 31, 2021—Halloween, Hudon's favorite holiday—in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a ceremony officiated by a "zombie Elvis" impersonator, with Hudon wearing a black wedding dress.[16][17] Manley and Hudon reside together in Los Angeles, California.[14] In addition to their personal partnership, the couple has collaborated professionally, co-starring as romantic leads in the Netflix series The Order (2019) and the Hallmark movie Love in the Maldives (2023); they have also made joint appearances at events, such as the 2019 premiere of A Dog's Journey.[13][18]Professional career
Television career
Manley made his television debut in 2012, appearing as Derek Moore in a guest role on the CW series Beauty & the Beast, marking his entry into episodic drama centered on supernatural elements. This early appearance was followed by small parts in other shows, building his resume in genre television. In 2015, he gained more visibility as Brad, a high school athlete with emerging superpowers, in the NBC miniseries Heroes Reborn, where he appeared in four episodes and contributed to the revival's exploration of ordinary people discovering extraordinary abilities amid a terrorist threat. His role highlighted his ability to portray youthful intensity in sci-fi narratives, providing early exposure to a major network audience. Manley's recurring turn as Fisher Webb, a zombie youth navigating corporate intrigue in the underground world of the undead, came in 2018 on The CW's iZombie, spanning several episodes in season four and showcasing his knack for blending humor with horror in a zombie procedural. Around the same period, he guest-starred as Bartholomew in the Starz fantasy series American Gods (2017), embodying a minor mythological figure in a single episode that delved into themes of belief and immigration.[19] In 2019, Manley appeared as Toby McManus, a pilot entangled in UFO investigations, on the History Channel's Project Blue Book, further establishing his presence in sci-fi and conspiracy-driven stories. These roles demonstrated his versatility across guest and recurring capacities in horror and speculative fiction. A significant career milestone arrived with his lead role as Jack Morton in Netflix's The Order (2019–2020), where he portrayed a college freshman seeking vengeance for his mother's murder by joining a secret magical society, only to become embroiled in a war between werewolf knights and dark magic practitioners. Over two seasons, Morton's arc explored themes of loyalty, power, and family secrets, with Manley delivering a performance that anchored the series' blend of horror, fantasy, and young adult drama. The show was canceled by Netflix after its second season, despite a dedicated fanbase, as confirmed by series creator Dennis Heaton.[20] This opportunity shifted Manley from supporting parts to starring status, enhancing his profile in streaming horror. In recent years, Manley has continued to diversify, guest-starring as Patrice in the Amazon Prime thriller series The Consultant (2023).[21] He took on the recurring role of Wylder Holt, a charismatic bronc rider introducing romantic tension and small-town dynamics, in Netflix's My Life with the Walter Boys (2023–present), with his character debuting in season two released in 2025.[22] This move into teen drama contrasts his earlier genre work, underscoring his transition from guest spots in supernatural series to more prominent, multifaceted characters across horror, sci-fi, and coming-of-age narratives, reflecting a broadening scope in television.Film career
Manley made his early foray into feature films with supporting roles that showcased his versatility across genres. In 2019, he portrayed Shane, the antagonistic ex-boyfriend in the family drama A Dog's Journey, a sequel to A Dog's Purpose directed by Gavin Polone, where his character adds tension to the young protagonist's life.[23] That same year, he appeared as Ensign Willie West, a pilot in the U.S. Navy's Bombing Squadron 6, in Roland Emmerich's epic war film Midway, which depicted the pivotal World War II battle and featured an ensemble cast including Ed Skrein and Luke Evans.[24] These roles marked his transition from television to cinematic supporting parts, building on the visibility gained from his Netflix series lead. By 2020, Manley stepped into leading roles, demonstrating his range in indie productions. He starred as Dean Taylor, a restless young man entangled in a crime spree with his lover in the thriller Infamous, directed by Joshua Gilbert, opposite Bella Thorne; the film explores themes of fame and desperation in a modern Bonnie-and-Clyde narrative and also credited Manley as a producer.[5] Later that year, he played York, the charming yet chaotic brother in the romantic comedy Holidate, a Netflix holiday film helmed by John Whitesell, where his supporting performance contributed to the ensemble dynamic alongside Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey.[25] This period highlighted his shift toward more prominent characters in thrillers and lighter fare. In 2023, Manley starred as Jared in the Hallmark Channel romantic comedy Love in the Maldives, opposite his wife Jocelyn Hudon, and played Leo, a fugitive on the run, in the indie crime drama Welcome to Redville.[26][27] Manley's film career continued to evolve with action-oriented projects in the early 2020s. In 2022, he took the lead as Detective Mike Breslin, an undercover officer infiltrating a drug cartel, in the crime thriller Pursuit, directed by Brian Skiba and distributed by Lionsgate, co-starring Emile Hirsch and John Cusack; the role emphasized his ability to anchor high-stakes narratives.[28] Expanding into Westerns, he appeared as the young gunslinger Southpaw in 2024's Outlaw Posse, directed by and starring Mario Van Peebles, which follows a posse seeking revenge in the post-Civil War era and features Whoopi Goldberg in a supporting role. Looking ahead, Manley is set to lead in the 2025 horror-thriller Do Not Enter, produced by Lionsgate and Suretone Pictures, where he plays Rick, a thrill-seeking urban explorer investigating an abandoned hotel based on David Morrell's novel Creepers; the film, directed by Marc Klasfeld, also stars Adeline Rudolph and Javier Botet.[29] Additionally, he has been cast in the upcoming horror film The Casket Girls, announced in early 2025 and directed by Justin G. Dyck, inspired by the 18th-century New Orleans legend of vampire-like brides, alongside Gabrielle Union and Mike Colter.[30] These projects underscore his genre diversity, spanning thrillers, romances, action, Westerns, and horror, while signaling his emergence as a leading man. Manley has also begun producing select indie shorts, including executive producing The Beach Raiders (2019) and producing GUION (2018), indicating growing involvement behind the camera.Filmography
