Family and upbringing
Kole Lind was born on October 16, 1998, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, though he is often identified with the nearby town of Shaunavon as his hometown where he was raised.[3][7] His parents, Ashley and Marcia Lind, operated a farm in Admiral, Saskatchewan, a small community close to Shaunavon, which shaped the family's rural lifestyle and frequent moves within the province to support their children's athletic pursuits. Ashley Lind, who grew up playing minor hockey alongside Hayley Wickenheiser in their youth, instilled a strong appreciation for the sport in the household from an early age.[8][9] Lind grew up in a tight-knit, sports-oriented family that emphasized hockey as a central activity, with siblings often playing together on outdoor rinks and in their basement during Saskatchewan's harsh winters. He has two older sisters, Taylor and Tenelle, both of whom pursued collegiate hockey; Taylor captained the St. Cloud State University women's team, while Tenelle played defense for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. His younger brother, Kalan Lind, was selected 46th overall by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, continuing the family's legacy in the sport.[10][11][12] The Linds' relocations within Saskatchewan, driven by opportunities for youth sports, further nurtured Kole's early interest in athletics amid a supportive environment that prioritized family involvement and perseverance.[13][14]Introduction to hockey
Kole Lind's introduction to organized hockey began in his hometown of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, where he participated in local minor hockey programs as a young child, laying the foundation for his development as a right-shot winger. Growing up in a hockey-oriented family, Lind received strong support from his parents and siblings, who encouraged his passion for the sport from an early age. His initial experiences in these community-based leagues focused on fundamental skills, helping him progress through the ranks of Saskatchewan's youth hockey system.[15] By his bantam years, Lind had advanced to the Swift Current Broncos U15 AA team in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL) U15 division during the 2012-13 season, where he demonstrated emerging offensive talent with 22 goals and 24 assists in 20 games. This performance highlighted his scoring ability and playmaking potential at the age of 14. Shortly thereafter, he briefly appeared with the Swift Current Legionnaires U18 AAA team, logging limited games in 2012-13, which served as an early taste of higher-level midget competition. These experiences in Swift Current's programs marked a key step in his transition toward elite youth hockey.[2] Lind's development accelerated in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons when he joined the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL), a premier midget league. In his first year with the Contacts, he contributed 21 goals and 16 assists over 44 games, establishing himself as a reliable forward. The following season, 2014-15, proved transformative as Lind exploded offensively, leading the league with 45 goals and tallying 79 points in 44 games, showcasing his powerful shot and hockey IQ. His standout performance earned him recognition as the SMAAAHL First Team All-Star, his first major accolade at the youth level. At around 6 feet 1 inch tall and 178 pounds during this period, Lind's physical presence complemented his skill set, allowing him to dominate along the wing.[2][16]Playing career
Junior career
Kole Lind began his major junior career with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL) after being selected in the fourth round, 87th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.[2] He joined the team late in the 2014–15 season, appearing in six regular-season games and recording 1 assist, and contributed three assists in seven playoff contests as the Rockets captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions.[2] In his first full season during 2015–16, Lind established himself as a regular, tallying 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 70 games, while adding no points in 16 playoff appearances.[2] Lind experienced a breakout in the 2016–17 season, leading the Rockets in scoring with 30 goals and 57 assists for 87 points in 70 games, ranking 15th overall in the WHL in scoring.[2] His performance earned him a selection to the WHL West Second All-Star Team. This strong campaign positioned him as a top prospect, leading to his selection by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, 33rd overall, of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Returning to Kelowna for his final junior season in 2017–18, Lind elevated his production further, scoring 39 goals and adding 56 assists for 95 points in 58 games despite missing time due to injury.[2] Over his entire WHL tenure with the Rockets from 2014 to 2018, Lind amassed 83 goals and 141 assists for 224 points in 204 regular-season games, along with 9 goals and 14 assists in 44 playoff games.[2]Vancouver Canucks organization
Following his selection by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Lind signed a three-year entry-level contract with the organization on March 1, 2018.[17] The deal carried an average annual value of $891,667 and was set to run through the 2020-21 season.[18] Lind began his professional career with the Canucks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Utica Comets, making his debut during the 2017-18 season after transitioning from junior hockey.[3] In limited action that year, he appeared in 6 games, recording 1 assist.[6] The following season, 2018-19, Lind established himself in the AHL, playing 51 games and contributing 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points.[6] His development continued in 2019-20, where he achieved a breakout performance with 14 goals and 30 assists in 61 games, showcasing improved scoring and playmaking abilities.[6] The 2020-21 season, shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Lind start strongly with 5 goals and 3 assists in 8 games before an injury sidelined him.[6] Over his four seasons with Utica through 2021, Lind amassed 24 goals and 46 assists in 126 games, demonstrating steady progression as a versatile forward.[6] Lind earned his first NHL call-up late in the 2020-21 season, making his debut with the Canucks on April 29, 2021, in a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.[19] He logged 11:14 of ice time but recorded no points in the contest.[3] Prior to the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, Lind remained with the Canucks organization as an unsigned restricted free agent after his entry-level deal expired, playing 7 games with the Canucks without recording a point. On July 21, 2021, he was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft, concluding his time in Vancouver's system.[20]Seattle Kraken
Kole Lind was selected by the Seattle Kraken from the Vancouver Canucks in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft on July 21, 2021.[20] Following the draft, Lind signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with Seattle on August 6, 2021, valued at $874,125 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level.[21] In the 2021–22 season, Lind split time between the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL), primarily with the Kraken's affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. He appeared in 23 games for Seattle, recording 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points while averaging 11:50 of ice time per game.[22] His first NHL goal came on April 1, 2022, in a 5–2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, assisted by Ryan Donato and Derrick Pouliot.[23] In the AHL, Lind posted 17 goals and 18 assists in 46 regular-season games with Charlotte, showcasing his scoring ability with a 0.76 points-per-game average despite a -3 plus/minus rating.[6] Lind did not appear in any NHL games during the 2022–23 season, focusing instead on development in the AHL after the Kraken's affiliation shifted to the Coachella Valley Firebirds. He re-signed with Seattle on a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level on July 10, 2023.[24] In the 2023–24 season, his NHL action was limited to 1 game with the Kraken, where he did not record a point. However, he excelled with the Firebirds, leading the team with 17 goals and 65 points in 69 regular-season games, including a +15 plus/minus and 171 shots on goal.[6] Lind's most notable contributions came during the AHL playoffs, where he played a key role in the Firebirds' back-to-back Calder Cup Final appearances. In the 2023 playoffs, he tallied 9 goals and 22 assists for 31 points in 26 games, helping Coachella Valley reach the finals against the Hershey Bears.[25] The following year, in the 2024 Calder Cup playoffs, Lind contributed 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points in 18 games as the Firebirds advanced to the finals once more before falling to the Bears.[26] His playoff production highlighted his clutch performance, with multiple multi-point games underscoring his value to the team's postseason success. As an unrestricted free agent after the 2023–24 season, Lind's rights expired on July 1, 2024, concluding his tenure with the Kraken organization after three seasons. Over his time in Seattle, he accumulated 24 NHL games with 2 goals and 6 assists.[4]Dallas Stars
On July 1, 2024, Lind signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars to a one-year, two-way contract.[4] During the 2024–25 season, he played exclusively with the Stars' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Texas Stars, where he recorded 23 goals and 29 assists for 52 points in 71 regular-season games.[2] In the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, Lind appeared in all 14 games for Texas, contributing 8 goals and 7 assists for 15 points as the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals.[27] Lind has yet to play an NHL game with Dallas as of November 2025, reflecting limited opportunities at the top level. On September 28, 2025, he was placed on waivers by the Stars for assignment to Texas, a procedural step he cleared the following day.[28] Following a strong AHL campaign, Lind received a one-year, two-way contract extension from the Stars on June 23, 2025, securing his services through the 2025–26 season.[5] In the early 2025–26 season, he has suited up for 10 games with Texas, tallying 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points as of November 13, 2025.[6]Career statistics and awards
