Stole Dimitrievski
Stole Dimitrievski (Macedonian: Столе Димитриевски; born 25 December 1993) is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for La Liga club Valencia CF and the North Macedonia national team.[1][2] Born in Kumanovo, North Macedonia, he stands at 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) and is known for his agility, reflexes, and reliability between the posts.[3][4] Dimitrievski began his senior career with Rabotnički in his homeland, making his professional debut on 24 October 2010 in a 2–0 home win.[5] In December 2011, he moved abroad by joining Udinese's youth setup in Italy and was immediately loaned to Cádiz CF's reserve team, where he gained early experience in Spanish football.[6] He later signed with Granada CF in 2014, appearing once for the first team in La Liga during the 2014–15 season, before moving to Gimnàstic de Tarragona for two seasons in the Segunda División (2016–2018), where he made 48 appearances.[7][8] His breakthrough came at Rayo Vallecano, where he spent six seasons from 2018 to 2024, becoming a mainstay with 186 appearances across La Liga and the Segunda División, including 126 top-flight matches, and recording 13 clean sheets in the 2023–24 La Liga campaign alone.[3][7] In July 2024, Dimitrievski transferred to Valencia CF on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract until June 2026, to provide competition and depth in goal; however, by November 2025, he had voiced frustration over limited playing time.[2][1][9] Internationally, Dimitrievski earned his first senior cap for North Macedonia on 12 November 2015 and has since become the national team's primary goalkeeper, accumulating 79 appearances as of November 2025.[10] He played a key role in qualifying for UEFA Euro 2020—North Macedonia's first major tournament—featuring in all three group matches, and helped the team reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs after finishing second in their qualifying group.[6] Notable performances include denying high-profile shots in qualifiers, such as against England in 2023, underscoring his importance to the side's defensive efforts in UEFA Nations League and World Cup campaigns.[6]Club career
Early career
Stole Dimitrievski was born on 25 December 1993 in Kumanovo, North Macedonia, where he grew up in the northeastern region of the country.[2] He developed his early football skills locally before joining the youth academy of FK Rabotnički, one of North Macedonia's prominent clubs based in Skopje. Dimitrievski progressed through Rabotnički's youth system, graduating to the senior setup as a promising goalkeeper.[3] Dimitrievski made his professional debut for Rabotnički on 24 October 2010, starting in a 2–0 home league win against Vardar Skopje.[11] Over the next two seasons, he featured in 18 Prva Makedonska Fudbalska Liga matches for the club, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper during the 2011–12 campaign with 16 appearances.[12][13] He also gained European exposure that year, playing all eight UEFA Europa League qualifying matches, where he recorded four clean sheets despite conceding 12 goals overall. In July 2012, at the age of 18, Dimitrievski transferred to Granada CF in Spain, initially joining their reserve team, Recreativo Granada, in the Tercera División.[14] Prior to this move, he had been loaned from Udinese's youth team to Cádiz CF B in the Spanish fourth tier from January to mid-2012, where he made eight appearances for the reserves.[15] This early stint in Spain marked his transition to European football outside North Macedonia and paved the way for further development at Granada.[3]Granada CF
Dimitrievski, who began his professional career at Rabotnički in North Macedonia, transferred to Udinese in Italy on 1 January 2012 and was immediately loaned to Cádiz B, where he made eight appearances in the Tercera División during the 2011–12 season.[15] Upon the end of that loan in the summer of 2012, he joined Granada CF on loan from Udinese, promoted within the club's youth system to the reserve team, Granada B, competing in the Segunda División B. He signed permanently with Granada on a free transfer from Udinese on 1 July 2015.[16] From the 2013–14 season through 2015–16, Dimitrievski served as the primary goalkeeper for Granada B, accumulating 96 league appearances across 2,794 minutes in 2013–14, 3,240 minutes in 2014–15, and 2,520 minutes in 2015–16, while keeping a total of 35 clean sheets.[17] His consistent performances in the third tier helped solidify his role, contributing to the team's competitive standing in Grupo IV.[18] In July 2014, Dimitrievski was promoted to Granada's first-team squad under manager Joaquín Caparrós.[19] He made his La Liga debut on 23 August 2014, starting in a 2–1 home win over Deportivo La Coruña after regular goalkeepers Roberto (suspended) and Oier Olazábal (injured) were unavailable; he played the full 90 minutes and conceded one goal.[20] This marked his sole senior appearance for the club, as he returned primarily to reserve duties in subsequent seasons.[17] As a 20-year-old prospect, Dimitrievski encountered significant challenges in breaking into the first team, overshadowed by experienced keepers like Roberto in 2014–15 and Andrés Fernández in 2015–16, who commanded the starting position. Despite limited opportunities, his period at Granada fostered overall development, including frequent first-team training sessions that aided his adaptation to the intensity and style of Spanish professional football.[19]Gimnàstic de Tarragona
Dimitrievski arrived at Gimnàstic de Tarragona on loan from Granada CF in the summer of 2016, following his development with the parent club's reserve team.[2] The arrangement transitioned to a permanent deal in July 2017, securing his stay until the end of the 2017–18 season.[2] Over his two seasons with the club, Dimitrievski accumulated 48 appearances in the Segunda División, establishing himself as a reliable presence in Spain's second tier.[17] In the 2016–17 campaign, he earned a key role as the starting goalkeeper from October onward, making 9 league appearances amid a rotation that included veterans Sebastián Saja and Manolo Reina, contributing to the team's mid-table security with a 14th-place finish and 52 points from 42 matches.[21] The 2017–18 season saw Dimitrievski as the undisputed first-choice keeper, starting 39 league games as Gimnàstic navigated intense relegation battles, including tight encounters against sides like Córdoba and Alcorcón.[21] Despite his solid showings, the team struggled overall, conceding 50 goals and ending 20th in the table, which led to relegation to the third division. Upon the expiry of his contract in August 2018, Dimitrievski departed Gimnàstic as a free agent, aiming for opportunities at a higher competitive level.[2]Rayo Vallecano
Dimitrievski joined Rayo Vallecano on a season-long loan from Gimnàstic de Tarragona on 31 August 2018, arriving as a backup to first-choice goalkeeper Alberto García.[22] During the 2018–19 La Liga season, he made 10 league appearances and 19 across all competitions, contributing to a squad that ultimately suffered relegation after finishing 20th. His performances impressed the club, leading to the loan being converted into a permanent transfer on 31 January 2019, with his contract initially extended through June 2022 and later prolonged until 2024.[23] Over his six-year tenure at Rayo Vallecano from 2018 to 2024, Dimitrievski amassed 191 appearances across all competitions, including 126 in La Liga.[24][25] He emerged as the primary goalkeeper starting in the 2020–21 Segunda División season, where he featured in 41 matches, conceding 44 goals while securing 11 clean sheets, playing a pivotal role in Rayo's sixth-place finish and subsequent promotion to La Liga via the playoffs. Upon Rayo's return to the top flight in 2021–22, Dimitrievski solidified his status as the undisputed number one, logging over 30 appearances per season in La Liga and helping the team secure mid-table finishes, including survival in the 2022–23 campaign where they ended 11th.[24] His reliability was evident in standout performances against elite opposition, such as a series of crucial saves in a 0–0 draw against Real Madrid in November 2023, including denying efforts from Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, and a penalty stop against Barcelona's Memphis Depay in October 2021.[26][27] Dimitrievski departed Rayo Vallecano as a free agent in July 2024 upon the expiration of his contract, concluding his longest club association after contributing to the team's stabilization in La Liga.[28]Valencia CF
On 1 July 2024, Stole Dimitrievski joined Valencia CF on a free transfer from Rayo Vallecano, signing a two-year contract until 30 June 2026 with an option to extend for two additional years.[2] The Macedonian goalkeeper, who had established himself as a reliable performer during his six-year stint at Rayo Vallecano, was brought in to provide depth in the goalkeeping department amid Valencia's ongoing squad rebuilding efforts. Dimitrievski faced stiff competition for the starting spot, primarily behind primary goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala, and served mainly in a backup role during the 2024–25 La Liga season.[29] He made four appearances in league play, totaling 360 minutes on the pitch. His integration into the squad involved regular training sessions and substitute duties, contributing to Valencia's depth as the club navigated a challenging campaign marked by mid-table inconsistencies and defensive vulnerabilities. In limited minutes, Dimitrievski recorded zero clean sheets and seven saves, including a full 90-minute performance in a 0–1 defeat to Real Valladolid on 13 December 2024. He also featured against Real Madrid on 3 January 2025, earning a yellow card in a 2–1 defeat, demonstrating his composure under pressure despite conceding six goals overall in his outings. These moments underscored his value as a rotational option for a Valencia side that finished 12th in La Liga by season's end, a mid-table position.[30] In the 2025–26 season, as of November 2025, Dimitrievski has continued as a backup goalkeeper, making limited appearances while competing for the starting spot.International career
Youth career
Stole Dimitrievski began his international youth career representing North Macedonia's under-17 national team in 2010, where he earned 4 caps primarily during the qualification rounds for the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.[31] As an emerging goalkeeper, he gained valuable experience in competitive matches against regional opponents, contributing to the team's defensive efforts in these early international fixtures. During this period, Dimitrievski also developed his goalkeeping fundamentals through his time in the youth academy of Rabotnički.[2] Progressing to the under-19 level in 2011, Dimitrievski featured in 6 appearances, including 3 matches in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers and 2 friendlies.[32] His performances in these qualifiers highlighted his potential, with notable saves and command in the penalty area helping North Macedonia compete in Group 12, though the team did not advance to the elite round. These outings solidified his role as a reliable youth custodian, emphasizing shot-stopping and distribution skills essential for higher levels.[32] Dimitrievski's most extensive youth international involvement came with the under-21 team from 2012 to 2014, where he accumulated 18 caps across UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaigns and international friendlies. Key appearances included defensive stands in qualifiers against teams like Croatia and Austria, where his agility and positioning were instrumental in limiting goals conceded during challenging group stages. Overall, Dimitrievski amassed 28 caps across North Macedonia's youth teams (U17, U19, and U21) from 2010 to 2015, fostering his growth into a composed goalkeeper ready for senior consideration by the end of this phase.[2]Senior career

North Macedonia advanced to the final playoff and defeated Georgia 1–0 on 12 November 2020, securing qualification for their historic debut at UEFA Euro 2020.[34] At the tournament, Dimitrievski started all three group stage matches against Austria, Ukraine, and the Netherlands, playing the full 270 minutes as North Macedonia exited with two losses and one draw. His consistent performances extended to the UEFA Nations League, where he made 17 appearances across multiple editions, contributing to competitive showings in League C.[35] Dimitrievski featured prominently in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers, starting eight matches in Group C as North Macedonia finished fourth.[10] In recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers up to October 2025, he continued as the mainstay, highlighted by crucial saves in a 0–0 draw against Belgium on 10 October, helping secure a vital point.[36] He also started in the 0–0 friendly draw against Latvia on 13 November 2025, maintaining his form in the ongoing qualification campaign.[37]Career statistics
