Abdullah Radif
Abdullah Radif (born 20 January 2003) is a Saudi Arabian professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and the Saudi Arabia national team. Standing at 1.87 metres tall and right-footed, he is known for his physical presence and goal-scoring ability in the forward line.[1][2] Radif began his career in the youth academy of Al-Hilal, progressing to sign his first professional contract with the club on 27 January 2021.[1] He made his senior debut for Al-Hilal on 30 September 2021 in a Saudi Pro League match against Al-Hazem.[3] During his time with Al-Hilal, he has been part of successful squads, contributing to the Saudi Pro League title in the 2021–22 season, as well as the 2021 AFC Champions League and the 2021 Saudi Super Cup.[4] After loans to Al-Taawoun, Al-Shabab, and Al-Ettifaq, Radif returned to Al-Hilal in July 2025.[1] His contract with Al-Hilal runs until 30 June 2026.[2] On the international stage, Radif debuted for the Saudi Arabia senior national team on 1 December 2021 during the FIFA Arab Cup.[5] As of November 2025, he has earned 22 caps and scored 2 goals, including a notable strike in the round of 16 at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup (held in 2024).[5] He also represented Saudi Arabia at youth levels, winning the AFC U-23 Championship in 2022.[4]Early career
Youth career
Abdullah Radif was born on 20 January 2003 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he began playing football in local youth setups.[1] Radif joined Al-Hilal's youth academy at a young age and progressed through its various age-group teams, including the under-15, under-17, and under-19 squads. In the 2019–20 Saudi U17 Premier League, he scored 16 goals for Al-Hilal, finishing as the competition's second-highest scorer behind Jaber Qradi of Al-Ettifaq.[6] Radif's form continued to impress in the 2020–21 season, where he led the Saudi U19 Premier League in goals with 26 for Al-Hilal, securing the top scorer title and drawing attention from the senior team.[7] These standout performances in domestic youth competitions culminated in Radif signing his first professional contract with Al-Hilal on 27 January 2021.[1]Professional breakthrough
Abdullah Radif signed his first professional contract with Al-Hilal on 27 January 2021, at the age of 18.[1] This milestone marked his transition from the club's youth academy to the professional ranks, reflecting Al-Hilal's emphasis on nurturing homegrown talent amid the Saudi Arabian Football Federation's (SAFF) broader push for youth development. In September 2021, SAFF launched its long-term transformation strategy, "Our Tactics for Tomorrow," which prioritized player pathways, grassroots initiatives, and academy promotions to elevate Saudi football globally.[8][9] Upon signing, Radif was immediately integrated into the senior squad, joining training sessions under the coaching staff and gradually earning opportunities with the first team. He received his initial senior call-up for the 2021–22 Saudi Pro League opener against Al-Tai on 14 August 2021, where he was listed on the substitutes' bench but did not feature.[10] Throughout the early part of the season, Radif continued to train with the senior group and made additional bench appearances, building experience ahead of his competitive debut in September 2021.[10]Club career
Al-Hilal debut and initial years
Abdullah Radif made his senior debut for Al-Hilal on 30 September 2021, entering as a substitute in the 86th minute during a Saudi Pro League match against Al-Hazem that ended in a 1–1 draw. At just 18 years old, he contributed to maintaining the team's defensive shape in the closing stages. This appearance marked his integration into the first team under manager Leonardo Jardim, following his promotion from the youth ranks earlier that year. Over the 2021–22 season, Radif accumulated five appearances across all competitions for Al-Hilal, without scoring a goal but providing one assist.[11] A notable moment came in the AFC Champions League on 11 April 2022, when he substituted in the 87th minute against Al-Rayyan and assisted the third goal in a 3–0 victory, helping secure Al-Hilal's position in Group A.[11] His limited role included brief substitute outings in the league, such as nine minutes against Al-Ettifaq in May 2022, where he helped preserve a 2–0 win.[12] Despite these glimpses, Radif's playing time was restricted due to intense competition from established forwards like Bafétimbi Gomis, who led the league with 20 goals that season. He remained part of the squad depth during Al-Hilal's successful campaign, which culminated in winning the Saudi Pro League title with 67 points, though they lost the King's Cup final to Al-Fayha on penalties.[13] This period laid the foundation for his development, leading to subsequent loan moves to gain more consistent experience.Loan to Al-Taawoun
In the summer of 2022, Abdullah Radif joined Al-Taawoun on a one-year loan from Al-Hilal, lasting until the end of the 2022–2023 season. This move provided the young forward with an opportunity to gain regular playing time in the Saudi Pro League, away from the competitive depth at his parent club. Radif made his debut for Al-Taawoun on 6 October 2022, starting as a forward in a 2–0 home victory over Al-Wehda in Matchweek 6 of the Pro League, where he scored his first goal for the club in the 45th minute to secure the lead at halftime.[14] He played 63 minutes in that match, marking a strong introduction to the team. Throughout the season, Radif featured in 15 league appearances, often deployed as a central forward or substitute, accumulating limited minutes but showing promise in his positioning and finishing.[15] His second goal came on 9 April 2023, entering as a substitute in the 61st minute during a 1–1 home draw against Al-Ettifaq in Matchweek 23; he netted in the 79th minute, assisted by Kaku, to briefly put Al-Taawoun ahead before the equalizer.[14] Other notable contributions included brief substitute roles in wins against Al-Adalah (4–1 on 15 December 2022) and Al-Raed (3–2 on 31 December 2022), where he helped maintain attacking pressure despite not scoring. Radif's two goals across these outings highlighted his adaptation to first-team demands, though his overall involvement remained rotational as he adjusted to the league's physicality.[14] During the loan, Radif's development focused on building experience in a forward role, transitioning from sporadic bench appearances at Al-Hilal to more consistent exposure at Al-Taawoun, which aided his tactical awareness and confidence in competitive matches.[15] Upon the loan's conclusion in June 2023, he returned to Al-Hilal.Loan to Al-Shabab
In the summer of 2023, Abdullah Radif was loaned to Al-Shabab from Al-Hilal for the 2023–2024 season, marking his second senior loan move to gain further experience in the Saudi Pro League. The one-year deal, announced on September 6, 2023, aimed to provide the young forward with increased playing time amid competition for positions at his parent club. Radif made his debut for Al-Shabab on October 5, 2023, as a substitute in a 1–0 home win against Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League.[16] Over the course of the season, he featured in 20 league appearances, primarily off the bench, scoring 3 goals and contributing to Al-Shabab's mid-table campaign, which ended in 11th place.[17] His goals came in key matches: the first on December 15, 2023, in a 1–1 draw away to Al-Fateh, where he equalized in the second half; the second on December 30, 2023, securing a 1–0 victory over Al-Wehda at home; and the third on March 14, 2024, during a 3–0 away win against Al-Hazem, helping solidify defensive efforts in a relegation battle.[16] Notable events included a heated encounter against rivals Al-Nasr on February 25, 2024, where Radif received two yellow cards in stoppage time, resulting in a red card and his dismissal in a 2–3 home defeat.[18] Under head coach Igor Bišćan, who took charge in October 2023, Radif adapted to a more structured attacking system, showing improved integration with teammates like Nicolas Jackson and contributing to transitional plays in several fixtures.[19] This loan period represented personal growth for Radif, building on his prior experience at Al-Taawoun with greater consistency in appearances and sharper finishing, enhancing his physical presence and on-pitch decision-making as a target forward. By the season's end in June 2024, these developments positioned him for further opportunities upon returning to Al-Hilal.Loan to Al-Ettifaq
On 2 September 2024, Abdullah Radif joined Al-Ettifaq on a one-year loan from Al-Hilal, aimed at providing the young striker with increased playing time in the Saudi Pro League.[20] This move marked his third loan spell away from his parent club, following stints at Al-Taawoun and Al-Shabab, and allowed him to integrate into a squad featuring international talents under manager Steven Gerrard. During the 2024–25 season, Radif made 28 appearances in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Ettifaq, starting 13 matches and coming off the bench 15 times, while accumulating approximately 1,153 minutes on the pitch; he also featured in one King's Cup match, bringing his total to 29 appearances across all competitions.[17] He scored three goals, all in league play, demonstrating his growing clinical finishing and aerial presence as a forward. His first goal came on 14 September 2024, in a 2–1 away victory over Al-Fateh, where he netted on his debut to secure the win.[21] Radif's second strike was a memorable bicycle kick on 7 December 2024, during a 2–1 win against Al-Khaleej, ending Al-Ettifaq's winless streak and earning widespread praise for its acrobatic quality.[22] His third and final goal arrived on 26 May 2025, in a 2–1 home triumph over Al-Wehda, contributing to a crucial late-season points haul.[21] Additionally, he provided one assist, highlighting his role in build-up play.[21] Radif's contributions were instrumental in Al-Ettifaq's mid-table campaign, as the team finished seventh in the Saudi Pro League with 50 points from 14 wins, 8 draws, and 12 losses, marking an improvement in defensive solidity and away form.[23] His goals in tight fixtures against mid-tier opponents helped stabilize the squad during a challenging period, including a run of draws and losses earlier in the season, and underscored his adaptability to senior-level demands in a competitive environment. This loan proved his most productive to date, with consistent minutes fostering maturity and positioning him as a reliable squad option, before his return to Al-Hilal in July 2025.[20]Return to Al-Hilal
Abdullah Radif returned to Al-Hilal from his loan spell at Al-Ettifaq on 1 July 2025, with his contract set to run until June 2026.[24][1] His previous loan experiences have shaped his development, positioning him as a more versatile forward ready for integration into the senior squad. Upon return, Radif was assigned squad number 21 and included in the first-team training camp in Germany during late July 2025, signaling his reintegration under head coach Simone Inzaghi.[25][26] In the early stages of the 2025–2026 season, Radif has made limited appearances, featuring once in the Saudi Pro League, once in the AFC Champions League Elite, and once in the King's Cup as of November 2025, without recording any goals.[27] These substitute roles highlight his current position in a highly competitive forward line, where he vies for minutes against established stars like Aleksandar Mitrović and Abdullah Al-Hamdan, as well as emerging talents.[28] Training updates indicate steady involvement in sessions, with reports emphasizing his physical conditioning and tactical adaptation to Inzaghi's system, though opportunities remain scarce amid the team's depth.[29] Looking ahead, Radif's potential future role at Al-Hilal appears promising, bolstered by the club's initiation of contract renewal negotiations in October 2025 to secure him beyond 2026 as a long-term option.[29] His recent form, including international contributions, and Al-Hilal's need for squad rotation in multiple competitions could elevate him to a rotational striker position, leveraging his youth and pressing ability to address depth requirements.[1]International career
Youth international career
Abdullah Radif began representing Saudi Arabia at the youth international level with the U20 team in 2020, earning call-ups for training camps and friendly matches as he developed his goal-scoring prowess. His breakthrough came during the qualification phase for the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup, where he showcased his finishing ability by netting two goals in a dominant 11-0 victory over Maldives on September 12, 2022. Radif's performances in these qualifiers, including additional contributions across multiple games, helped secure Saudi Arabia's qualification for the main tournament, highlighting his emergence as a key forward in the age group.[30] In the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup held in Uzbekistan, Radif featured prominently for the Saudi U20 side, appearing in three group stage matches and scoring once via a second-half penalty in a crucial 1-0 win against Kyrgyzstan on March 3, 2023, which temporarily boosted their progression hopes. Despite Saudi Arabia's elimination in the group stage following defeats to Japan and Uzbekistan, Radif's involvement—totaling four appearances and one goal during the January to March 2023 period—underscored his growing reliability and physical presence as a centre-forward.[25] These experiences in high-stakes Asian youth competitions provided Radif with valuable exposure to tactical discipline and international pressure, aiding his technical refinement and confidence. Radif transitioned to the U23 setup in 2021, balancing commitments between the two age groups before focusing primarily on the Olympic-eligible team. He played a supporting role in Saudi Arabia's triumphant 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup campaign in Uzbekistan, making three appearances and scoring a stoppage-time penalty in the 5-0 opening group win over Tajikistan on June 3, 2022, contributing to their eventual title victory—Saudi Arabia's first in the competition.[31] This success offered Radif essential experience in knockout football.[1] Radif continued with the U23 team into 2024, delivering a standout performance at the AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Qatar, where he netted a hat-trick—his first in a major tournament—in a 5-0 group stage rout of Thailand on April 19, 2024, scoring in the 45+7th, 49th, and 73rd minutes.[32] This feat made him the first player to achieve a hat-trick in the competition since 2016, emphasizing his clinical finishing and role in Saudi Arabia's strong group stage showing. Overall, his U23 career from 2021 onward, encompassing around a dozen caps and multiple goals in qualifiers and tournaments, has been instrumental in honing his professional mindset and preparing him for higher-level demands through consistent international youth exposure.[33]Senior career
Abdullah Radif made his senior international debut for the Saudi Arabia national team on 1 December 2021, coming on as a substitute in a 0–1 group stage defeat to Jordan at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. As of November 2025, he has earned 23 caps and scored 2 goals for the senior team.[34] Radif scored his first international goal on 16 November 2023, during a 4–0 victory over Pakistan in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Entering as a substitute, he netted the fourth goal in stoppage time with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, sealing the win and contributing to Saudi Arabia's strong start in the third round of qualification.[35] His second goal came on 30 January 2024, in the AFC Asian Cup round of 16 against South Korea. Substituting at halftime, Radif scored just 36 seconds into the second half with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, giving Saudi Arabia a 1–0 lead; the match ended 1–1 after extra time, but Saudi Arabia lost 2–4 on penalties.[36] Radif has been a regular squad member in major competitions, featuring in multiple 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the third round Group C, where his appearances contributed to Saudi Arabia securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in October 2025. He also played key roles in the 2023–24 AFC Asian Cup, including group stage matches against Oman and Thailand, showcasing his development as a forward option. His ongoing selection reflects his integration into the senior setup, with continued call-ups for qualifiers and friendlies into 2025.[37][38]Career statistics
