Upbringing
Cha Hun was born on July 12, 1994, in Seokgwan-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, South Korea.[5] He spent his early years in an urban setting before his family relocated, shaping his initial exposure to the bustling life of the capital.[6] Following the move, Cha Hun was raised in Deokjeong-dong, a residential area in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi Province, where he experienced a more suburban childhood environment typical of many South Korean families in the greater Seoul metropolitan region.[5] During this period, he attended Cheongmyeong Daycare Center, which provided his first structured social and developmental experiences outside the home.[7] Details about Cha Hun's family background remain limited in public records, with his grandfather credited as the one who named him "Hun," reflecting a personal family tradition.[6] Cha Hun has parents and an older sister.[5] This upbringing in the Yangju area transitioned into his early education within the same region.[7]Education
Cha Hun attended Koam Elementary School and Goam Middle School in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi Province, during his formative years. He graduated from Deokgye High School, located in Yangju-si, in 2013.[5] Following high school, Cha Hun enrolled at Kyung Hee Cyber University to pursue higher education while balancing his early career commitments.[8] As of November 2025, he is attending Kyung Hee Cyber University.[9]Career
Music career
Cha Hun debuted as the lead guitarist and vocalist of the South Korean rock band N.Flying, which FNC Entertainment formed in 2013 to target the Japanese market with an initial lineup of four members including himself. The band released its first digital indie single, Basket, in Japan on October 1, 2013, marking their international entry before shifting focus to Korea. On May 20, 2015, N.Flying made their official Korean debut with the mini-album Awesome, introducing their rap-rock sound to domestic audiences and establishing Cha Hun's role in live performances and recordings.[10][11] Throughout their career, N.Flying reached significant milestones with major releases that showcased Cha Hun's guitar work and vocal contributions. In June 2021, the band issued their first full-length studio album, Man on the Moon, which featured introspective tracks blending rock and pop elements. Cha Hun co-wrote the lyrics and co-composed the music for the track "Ask," highlighting his growing involvement in the creative process. The following year, in October 2022, they followed up with the EP Dearest, where Cha Hun again contributed substantially to "Shooting Star," handling writing, composing, and arranging duties alongside bandmates. These releases solidified N.Flying's presence in the K-rock scene, with Cha Hun's guitar riffs providing a distinctive edge to their energetic style.[12][13][14] Cha Hun's activities with N.Flying were interrupted by mandatory military service, which he began on March 20, 2023, enlisting in the military band. He was discharged on September 19, 2024, allowing his full return to the group in late 2024. Resuming as a complete five-member unit, the band released their second full-length album, Everlasting, on May 28, 2025, further exploring mature themes through rock instrumentation led by Cha Hun's guitar. To commemorate their 10th anniversary since formation, N.Flying launched the '&CON4 : FULL CIRCLE' world tour starting in May 2025, with Cha Hun performing key dates including the group's first solo concert in Singapore on November 23, 2025—their sole Southeast Asia stop. In November 2025, the band also contributed to the League of Legends World Championship by releasing a medley cover of the anthems "Legends Never Die" and "GODS," performed with Cha Hun on guitar and vocals.[15][16][17][18]Acting career
Cha Hun transitioned into acting leveraging his established visibility as a member of the K-pop band N.Flying, with his agency FNC Entertainment announcing his debut opportunity in early 2022.[3] He made his acting debut in the lead role of Kim Ha Joon, a novice in romance who bonds with a cat owner over their pets, in the 2022 web series Woof & Meow – Do You Love Me? (also known as Calming Signal Mung Yang Mung Yang), a romantic comedy that aired in 10 episodes.[19] The series, which explored themes of unexpected love through pet ownership, received positive viewer feedback, earning a 7.2 rating on drama databases for its lighthearted narrative and Cha's earnest portrayal.[19] In 2023, prior to his military enlistment, Cha took on another lead role as Nam Tae Ryeong, a seemingly aloof boyfriend navigating a contractual relationship, in the web drama Romance By Romance.[20] This 10-episode series, presented as a gift to fans ahead of his service, focused on themes of heartbreak and renewal, and similarly garnered acclaim with a 7.3 rating, praised for Cha's chemistry with co-star Lee Eun Bi.[21] His performance in this role highlighted his growing comfort with romantic leads, building on the charm he displayed in his debut. Following his discharge from military service in September 2024, Cha Hun has maintained a limited acting presence, with no major projects announced as of late 2025, continuing to emphasize web dramas as his primary format.[22] This selective approach allows him to balance acting with his ongoing music commitments, reflecting a deliberate expansion of his entertainment career beyond the stage.Online activities
