Born in Incheon and raised in Siheung, she graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School and the acting program at Sungshin Women's University.[1][2] Chae-kyung began her entertainment career in 2012 as a member of the girl group PURETTY, which debuted in Japan under DSP Media and disbanded in 2014.[1] She participated in survival programs including the 2014 Kara Project and the 2016 Produce 101, where she ranked 16th and did not debut with the project group I.O.I.[1] Following these experiences, she briefly joined the project groups C.I.V.A and I.B.I, both of which disbanded by the end of 2016.[1] In November 2016, Chae-kyung joined the girl group APRIL under DSP Media as the leader and lead vocalist, contributing to releases like the albums Prelude (2017) and Eternity (2017) before the group's disbandment in January 2022 amid internal controversies.[1] Transitioning to acting, she signed with PA Entertainment in November 2025 and made her debut in the 2021 MBC web drama Time to Be Together 1:11, playing a main role.[1] Her subsequent projects include the lead role of Cha Do-hee in the 2022 romantic comedy web series Calming Signal (also known as Woof & Meow – Do You Love Me?) and the lead role of Yu-mi in the 2022 omnibus drama Love Lock.[1][3] Chae-kyung expanded into historical dramas with a guest appearance as Queen Won-hwa in the 2023 KBS2 series Korea-Khitan War, which chronicles Goryeo's conflicts with the Khitan.[1] In 2025, she took on a special cameo as the beauty YouTuber Lee Hye-yoon in episodes 7 and 8 of the JTBC drama Confidence Queen, portraying a confident influencer who becomes a victim of the story's con artist antagonist.[4] In November 2025, she was reportedly dating former badminton player Lee Yong-dae, though her agency has not confirmed the relationship.[5] These roles highlight her versatility in shifting from idol performances to diverse acting genres.[1]Personal background

Yoon Chae-kyung was born on July 7, 1996, in Incheon, South Korea.[2][1] She was raised in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, and is an only child.[2][6]Education
Yoon Chae-kyung graduated from Eungye Middle School in Siheung, South Korea, completing her middle school education there.[7] She subsequently enrolled at Hanlim Multi Art School in Seoul, a prestigious institution specializing in performing arts, where she focused on entertainment and arts training as part of the Broadcasting and Entertainment Department. Yoon completed her high school studies at Hanlim Multi Art School, graduating with an emphasis on skills relevant to her future career in music and acting.[1][2][8][7] Following her high school graduation, Yoon enrolled in and graduated from the Department of Media Visual Acting at Sungshin Women's University, pursuing higher education in acting to further develop her performance expertise.[1][2][9] Prior to her debut, Yoon trained as an idol trainee under DSP Media for approximately 4 years, undergoing rigorous preparation in vocals, dance, and performance that laid the foundation for her entry into the K-pop industry.[10][2]Music career
2012–2014: Puretty debut and Kara Project
Yoon Chae-kyung made her debut in the music industry as a member of the five-member girl group Puretty, formed by DSP Media with a primary focus on the Japanese market.[11] The group, consisting of Hyein, Shiyoon, Chaekyung, Somin, and Jaeun, held their first official performance at the Tokyo Toy Show 2012 on June 15, where they showcased their debut single "Cheki Love."[11] On September 5, 2012, Puretty officially debuted in Japan with the release of "Cheki Love," which served as the opening theme for the anime series Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future.[11] Following their debut, Puretty continued promotions in Japan with the release of their second single, "Shuwa Shuwa Baby," on January 16, 2013.[12] The group participated in various promotional events tied to the Pretty Rhythm franchise, including live performances and anime-related appearances, though plans for a full Korean debut were ultimately unrealized.[12] Puretty disbanded in January 2014, as plans for a Korean debut did not materialize, with DSP Media stating members would have future opportunities.[13] Shortly after Puretty's disbandment, Yoon Chae-kyung participated as a contestant in the survival reality show The KARA Project, which aired on MBC Music starting May 2014 and aimed to select new members for the girl group KARA under DSP Media.[14] Revealed as the fourth candidate on May 16, she joined six other trainees—Sojin, Shiyoon, Youngji, Somin, Chaewon, and Yuji—to form the temporary project group Baby KARA, competing through vocal, dance, and fan-voting challenges over six episodes.[14][15] Despite notable performances in group stages and evaluations, Yoon placed 5th in the finale on July 1, 2014. Heo Youngji ranked 1st and joined KARA, while 2nd-place Ahn So-jin did not.[16]2015–2016: Produce 101 and project groups
In 2016, Yoon Chae-kyung participated in Mnet's survival audition program Produce 101, competing against 100 other trainees to form a temporary girl group.[17] She advanced through several elimination rounds, showcasing her vocal and dance skills in team performances and position evaluations, but was eliminated in the finale episode on April 1, placing 16th in the overall rankings with 128,454 votes.[17] Following her elimination, Yoon joined the three-member project group C.I.V.A, formed through SBS's music variety show The God of Music 2.[18] The group, consisting of Yoon alongside Kim So-hee and Lee Soo-min—fellow Produce 101 alumni—debuted on July 8, 2016, with the digital single "Why," an EDM remake of the 1998 hit by girl group Diva.[18] C.I.V.A promoted the track on music programs, including their debut stage on M Countdown on July 7, where they incorporated humorous references to the original song's era in their performance.[19] The project concluded shortly after these promotions, aligning with the temporary nature of groups from the show. Later that year, Yoon became a member of the five-member project girl group I.B.I, assembled by LOEN Entertainment from non-debuting Produce 101 contestants including Lee Hae-in, Kim So-hee, Lee Soo-hyun, and Han Hye-ri.[20] The group debuted on August 18, 2016, with the single album Molae Molae, featuring the title track of the same name—a bubbly dance-pop song emphasizing playful secrecy in romance.[20] I.B.I promoted actively, performing on shows like Music Bank on debut day and filming a six-episode reality series Hello I.B.I in Thailand, which aired from October 8 to November 12, 2016, to document their group dynamics and activities.[21] The project disbanded after approximately six months, with members returning to their respective agencies by early 2017.[21] Yoon's involvement in these short-term groups, stemming directly from her Produce 101 exposure, heightened her recognition among K-pop audiences and facilitated opportunities in subsequent permanent ensembles.[17]2017–2022: April
In November 2016, Yoon Chae-kyung joined the girl group April under DSP Media as its leader, lead vocalist, and visual, expanding the lineup to six members alongside Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Jinsol, and Rachel following the departure of earlier members Hyunjoo and Somin.[22][23] Her integration marked a new chapter for the group, leveraging her experience from survival shows to contribute to vocal performances and visual appeal in promotions.[22] April resumed activities in 2017 with the release of their third mini-album Prelude on January 3, featuring the upbeat lead single "April Story," which highlighted the refreshed group's pure and energetic concept through music show appearances and teaser campaigns. Later that year, they issued the single album Mayday in May and their fourth mini-album Eternity in September, with the title track "Take My Hand" emphasizing emotional ballads and synchronized choreography that showcased Yoon's vocal stability. The group also ventured into Japan with a showcase for Prelude's Japanese version and subsequent fan meetings, building an international fanbase through localized promotions. From 2018 to 2019, April released their sixth mini-album The Ruby in October 2018, led by the confident retro-pop single "Oh! My Mistake," which earned praise for its catchy hooks and Yoon's prominent vocal lines during live stages.[24] However, the group encountered challenges, including an extended hiatus starting late 2019 amid internal company restructuring at DSP Media and limited comebacks, which stalled momentum despite fan support through online events. In 2021, allegations of school bullying involving members resurfaced, leading to public scrutiny, police investigations that found no criminal evidence, and a further hiatus that halted group promotions. Despite these setbacks, April returned briefly in 2020 with the summer single "Hello Summer" and their seventh mini-album Da Capo featuring "LALALILALA," focusing on resilient themes during virtual fan meetings and online concerts amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Their final release, the single album Walk on January 25, 2022, served as a poignant closer with its introspective title track, accompanied by farewell fan messages and limited live streams. On January 28, 2022, DSP Media announced the group's disbandment after extensive discussions, citing the need for members to pursue individual paths, marking the end of Yoon's tenure with April after over five years of collective efforts.[25][26]2023–present: Post-disbandment musical activities
Following the disbandment of April in 2022, Yoon Chae-kyung had no major musical releases, shifting focus to acting while affiliated with Management AM9. As of November 2025, Yoon has not released new music since April's disbandment, with her activities centered on acting. On March 27, 2025, reports confirmed that her exclusive contract with Management AM9 would not be renewed and was set to expire on April 25, 2025, marking the end of her three-year tenure with the agency.[27] Yoon signed an exclusive contract with PA Entertainment in November 2025, with the agency announcing plans for upcoming acting projects.[28]Acting and theater career
Early acting roles (2017–2022)
Yoon Chae-kyung began exploring acting opportunities during her time as a member of the girl group April, marking her transition from music to on-screen performances in the later years of the group's activity. Her official acting debut came in 2021 with the MBC web drama Time to Be Together 1:11, where she portrayed the lead role of Song Yeo-wool, a bright and energetic high school student navigating first love and personal growth.[29] This role served as her introduction to the industry, allowing her to showcase comedic timing and emotional depth in a youth-oriented romance narrative spanning 10 episodes.[30] In 2022, as April's activities wound down ahead of their disbandment in January, Yoon expanded her acting portfolio with additional web series projects. She starred as Yu Mi in the omnibus drama Love Lock, a 10-episode anthology exploring themes of encounters and breakups among couples, where her segment highlighted relational dynamics in a modern setting.[31] Shortly after, she took on the female lead role of Cha Do-hee, an aspiring writer seeking love through a dating consultation service, in the romantic comedy Calming Signal (also known as Woof & Meow – Do You Love Me?), which premiered on Wavve and featured her alongside N.Flying's Cha Hun.[32] These roles, all main or supporting leads in web formats, demonstrated her versatility in lighter, character-driven stories. Throughout this period, Yoon balanced her burgeoning acting commitments with April's promotional schedules, including album releases and performances, which provided a platform for her visibility in the entertainment industry. Her early projects were primarily in accessible web dramas, reflecting a gradual build-up of experience amid group obligations until April's dissolution allowed fuller focus on acting.[29]Major roles and recent projects (2023–present)
In 2023, Yoon Chae-kyung made her film debut in the thriller In Dream, directed by Lee Jang-hoon, where she portrayed Seo Yoon-kyeong, a dedicated researcher investigating a series of mysterious deaths linked to experimental dream-entering technology.[33] The film follows protagonist Hong-hwa, who gains the ability to infiltrate others' dreams amid a serial murder case in Seoul, with Yoon's character contributing key insights into the scientific anomalies driving the plot. Her supporting role marked a significant step in transitioning from idol activities to more substantial screen presence, building on her prior web drama experience. Yoon gained prominent recognition for her guest role as Queen Wonhwa in the KBS2 historical epic The Korea-Khitan War (2023–2024), appearing in episodes 4 and 11 as the second consort to King Hyeonjong of Goryeo. Historically, Queen Wonhwa, from the Gyeongju Choi clan and a daughter of the late King Seongjong, entered the narrative as a poised princess during the turbulent Gang Jo coup, evolving into a symbol of royal resilience amid the Khitan invasions that threatened Goryeo's sovereignty. Yoon's portrayal, clad in intricate Goryeo-era hanbok, captured the character's grace and subtle influence on the king's decisions, debuting unexpectedly in episode 4 to widespread viewer surprise and acclaim for her commanding presence in the ensemble cast.[34][35] The series, praised for its grand-scale depiction of the Goryeo-Khitan conflicts, highlighted Yoon's ability to embody historical depth, earning her attention as a rising actress in sageuk genres.[36] In 2025, Yoon made a special cameo appearance as Lee Hye-yoon, a charismatic beauty YouTuber ensnared in a confidence scam, in episodes 7 and 8 of the Prime Video crime comedy Confidence Queen, starring Park Min-young. Her brief role showcased a dynamic range, shifting from bubbly influencer confidence to raw frustration as a victim confronting antagonist Gil Mi-in (played by Oh Na-ra), adding layers to the series' exploration of deception and revenge.[4] Following the end of her contract with Management AM9 in April 2025, Yoon signed an exclusive deal with PA Entertainment on November 3, 2025, enabling continued focus on her expanding acting portfolio amid post-idol career growth.[37]Theater performances
Yoon Chae-kyung made her theater debut in the play Accompanying - Life is a Picnic (Donghaeng - Insaeng-eun Sopung), a production focused on raising awareness about disability through a comedic narrative set in the afterlife.[38] The play premiered on December 3 and 4, 2021, at the Small Theater of the Gyeonggi Art Center in Suwon, South Korea, and was hosted by the Gyeonggi Art Center with production by Theater Company Seongnam93.[39] It explored themes of equality in the underworld's settlement office, where an error in the system forces interactions between souls, highlighting the daily lives and dreams of disabled individuals in a space where physical differences are irrelevant.[40] In the production, Yoon portrayed the Angel in the Underworld, a key character within the settlement office who assists in managing the bureaucratic mishaps central to the plot.[41] Her role contributed to the story's message of empathy and inclusion, using humor to address societal indifference toward disabilities, and the free performances aimed to engage diverse audiences in reflection on these issues.[42] The debut received positive feedback for Yoon's stable acting and composed vocal delivery, marking a successful transition to live theater that built on her prior screen experience.[43] Following the run, Yoon reflected on the challenge, stating, "It was my first time on a theater stage, so I was very nervous and trembling, but it was fun; there's still a lot to learn and study."[44]Discography
Album appearances
Yoon Chae-kyung debuted as a member of the Japanese girl group Puretty in 2012, contributing vocals to their singles, though the group did not release full-length albums during her tenure. Following Puretty's disbandment in 2014, she participated in the project group I.B.I, formed from contestants of Mnet's Produce 101. I.B.I released their debut single album Mollae Mollae on August 18, 2016, with the title track of the same name, where Yoon served as lead vocalist alongside her groupmates. The release emphasized playful, retro-inspired pop, but specific chart performance data is limited, reflecting the group's short-lived promotional period before disbanding later that year.[45] Yoon joined the South Korean girl group April in November 2016, becoming the group's leader and lead vocalist, and began appearing on their albums starting in 2017. Her first release with April was the third mini-album Prelude, issued on January 4, 2017, by DSP Media. The album introduced the expanded seven-member lineup and featured the orchestral title track "April Story" (봄의 나라 이야기), which highlighted Yoon's emotive lead vocals in its narrative-driven verses about enduring emotions. Prelude also included reimagined versions of earlier hits like "Dream Candy" and "Snowman," blending fresh tracks with the group's established sound; it sold 5,292 copies in its first month on the Gaon Album Chart, peaking at number 14.[46][47] Later that year, April released their fourth mini-album Eternity on September 20, 2017, showcasing a more mature electro-pop direction with the title track "Take My Hand" (손을 잡아줘). Yoon's vocal parts were prominent in the album's harmonious choruses and balladic elements, contributing to its cohesive group dynamic. The EP achieved modest sales of around 4,000 copies in its debut month on the Gaon Chart, peaking at number 7. Subsequent releases during her time with April included the fifth mini-album The Blue (March 12, 2018), which experimented with synth-heavy tracks and sold approximately 3,500 copies initially, peaking at number 11, and the sixth mini-album the Ruby (October 16, 2018), emphasizing R&B influences with sales nearing 4,000 units in the first month, peaking at number 10.[46] April's seventh and final mini-album with Yoon, Da Capo, was released on April 22, 2020, featuring the upbeat title track "LALALILALA" and marking a return to vibrant, dance-oriented pop. Yoon led several vocal sections, underscoring her role in the group's evolution toward brighter, nostalgic themes. The album peaked at number 5 on the Gaon Album Chart and sold 7,070 copies overall in South Korea, establishing it as one of April's stronger commercial performers amid the group's pre-disbandment activities. No certifications were awarded, but it represented a high point in physical sales for the group.[46][48]| Group | Album | Release Year | Key Tracks Featuring Yoon's Vocals | Gaon Album Chart Peak / Sales (First Month) |
