After signing with Vancouver as a free agent in July 2022, Delia suited up for 10 games in 2022–23, helping the Abbotsford Canucks to a 40-win season in the AHL.[3] He later joined the Winnipeg Jets organization in 2023 on a one-year, one-way contract and the Edmonton Oilers in 2024 on a one-year, two-way contract, primarily serving in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose and Bakersfield Condors, where he posted a 3.55 GAA in 32 games during the 2023–24 season.[6] In July 2025, Delia signed a one-year deal with Brynäs IF, marking his first professional stint outside North America; as of November 2025, he has appeared in 6 SHL games with a 3.87 GAA.[1][4]Early life and amateur career
Youth and junior hockey
Collin Delia was born on June 20, 1994, in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He developed his goaltending skills through youth hockey in Southern California, playing for the California Titans 18U AAA during the 2010–11 season (3 GP, 3.52 GAA) and the Orange County HC 18U AAA in 2011–12 (9 GP, 2.05 GAA).[4] In 2012, Delia relocated to Amarillo, Texas, to begin his junior career with the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).[7] During the 2012–13 regular season, he appeared in 19 games, recording an 11–2–2 mark with a 2.26 goals-against average (GAA), .899 save percentage, and three shutouts while serving as a backup to primary goaltender Paul Berrafato.[4] The Bulls captured the Robertson Cup championship that spring, defeating the Wenatchee Wild 5–0 in the final; Delia contributed in the postseason with one appearance, posting a shutout.[4][8][7] Delia assumed a more prominent role in the 2013–14 season, starting 31 of his appearances en route to a 22–7–0 record, a 1.60 GAA, .937 save percentage, and seven shutouts, which ranked among the league leaders.[4] His strong play helped the Bulls secure a spot in the Robertson Cup playoffs, where he posted a 2.38 GAA over six games.[4] After concluding his junior eligibility, Delia verbally committed to Division I Merrimack College in November 2013.[9]College career
Collin Delia enrolled at Merrimack College, a member of the Hockey East Conference, in 2014 and played three seasons for the Warriors from 2014 to 2017.[7] As a freshman in the 2014–15 season, Delia served primarily as a backup goaltender, appearing in 9 games with a 4–4–1 record, a 1.86 goals-against average (GAA), and a .937 save percentage (SV%).[10][4] In his sophomore year of 2015–16, Delia emerged as the starter, appearing in 26 games despite missing four due to an undisclosed injury after his first 15 appearances; he recorded a career-high 600 saves en route to an 8–12–6 record, 2.96 GAA, and .889 SV%.[7][10] Delia's junior season in 2016–17 marked his breakout year, as he started 21 games and posted a 9–8–3 record with a 2.15 GAA and .927 SV%, including three shutouts and 549 saves; his performance in conference play earned him the Hockey East Goaltending Champion title with a .928 SV% and 2.21 GAA, along with Hockey East Goaltender of the Month honors for January.[7][10][11][12] Over his collegiate career, Delia appeared in 56 games, compiling a 21–24–10 record, 2.48 GAA, .912 SV%, and four shutouts while logging 3,239:07 minutes in net.[7][13] He was selected to the Hockey East Third Team All-Star in 2017 for his standout junior campaign.[7][14] Following his junior year, Delia signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.[13]Professional career
Chicago Blackhawks organization (2017–2022)
Delia signed with the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on July 28, 2017, agreeing to a two-year entry-level contract worth $1.535 million with an average annual value of $767,500.[14] Following training camp, he was assigned to the Blackhawks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, where he began his professional career during the 2017–18 season. In 28 regular-season appearances for Rockford, Delia recorded a 17–7–4 mark, a 2.72 goals-against average (GAA), and a .900 save percentage (SV%), helping the IceHogs reach the Calder Cup playoffs. He also appeared in 10 postseason games, posting a 7–3 record, 2.34 GAA, and .924 SV% as Rockford advanced to the Western Conference finals.[15] On March 29, 2018, Delia received an emergency recall to Chicago and made his NHL debut against the Winnipeg Jets after starter Anton Forsberg was injured during warmups. Delia stopped 25 of 27 shots over 45:59 before exiting with a lower-body injury, earning credit for the 6–2 victory as emergency goalie Scott Foster preserved the win. He appeared in two games total that season for the Blackhawks, finishing with a 1–1 record, 3.96 GAA, and .889 SV%. In February 2019, midway through the 2018–19 season, the Blackhawks extended Delia's contract by three years through 2021–22 at an average annual value of $1 million, recognizing his development as a promising backup option. That year, he saw increased NHL action, playing 16 games with a 6–4–3 record, 3.61 GAA, and .908 SV%, while also logging 26 AHL games for Rockford with a 13–12–4 mark, 2.48 GAA, and .922 SV%.[3][16][17] Delia's role with the Blackhawks remained primarily as a depth goaltender and AHL starter over the subsequent seasons, balancing time between Chicago and Rockford amid injuries and organizational needs. During the COVID-19 shortened 2020–21 campaign, he played six NHL games, posting a 1–3 record, 3.59 GAA, and .902 SV%, often serving as a recall option during a period of league-wide health protocols and roster instability. In 2021–22, his final season with the organization, Delia appeared in eight NHL contests with a 1–4 mark, 3.85 GAA, and .899 SV%, while starting 22 games for Rockford (11–8–3, 3.04 GAA, .905 SV%). Overall, from 2017 to 2022, Delia suited up for 32 NHL games with the Blackhawks, compiling a 9–12 record, 3.68 GAA, and .904 SV%, establishing himself as a reliable minor-league performer with occasional big-league exposure.[3][15]Vancouver Canucks organization (2022–2023)
On July 13, 2022, Delia signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent, joining the organization after limited NHL experience with the Chicago Blackhawks.[3][18] Delia began the 2022–23 season primarily assigned to the Canucks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, where he appeared in 9 games, posting a 6–3–0 record with a 3.39 goals-against average (GAA) and .888 save percentage (SV%).[2][4] He was recalled to the NHL roster multiple times in December 2022 under emergency conditions, initially on December 2 due to an injury to starting goaltender Thatcher Demko, and again on December 17 and December 20 amid further injuries and personal circumstances for the team.[19][20] These recalls elevated Delia to a backup role, though his starts were limited by Demko's recovery and competition from prospect Artūrs Šilovs.[21] In 20 NHL appearances with Vancouver during the 2022–23 season, Delia recorded a 10–6–2 mark, a 3.28 GAA, and .882 SV%, serving as a key depth option while Demko managed a groin injury that sidelined him for much of the year.[3][2] Delia's contract expired at the end of the season, making him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2023.[18]Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers organizations (2023–2025)
On July 1, 2023, Delia signed a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000 with the Winnipeg Jets, positioning him as organizational depth behind starters Connor Hellebuyck and Laurent Brossoit.[22] Assigned to the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose, he appeared in 32 games during the 2023–24 season, posting an 11–19–1 record with a 3.55 goals-against average (GAA) and .872 save percentage, while facing 107 goals on 834 shots.[15] Despite his experience, Delia did not receive an NHL call-up with Winnipeg that year, serving primarily in a veteran backup role amid the team's stable goaltending tandem.[23] As an unrestricted free agent following the expiration of his Jets contract, Delia joined the Edmonton Oilers on July 1, 2024, via a one-year, two-way deal at $775,000 AAV, adding further depth to a group that included Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.[6] He spent the bulk of the 2024–25 season with the Oilers' AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, where he recorded a 12–11–5 mark in 28 appearances, achieving a career-best 2.76 GAA, .906 save percentage, and two shutouts while stopping 720 of 795 shots.[15] On May 12, 2025, amid playoff preparations and goaltending adjustments, Edmonton recalled Delia from Bakersfield, though he did not appear in any NHL games during his tenure with the organization.[24] Throughout his time with both Western Conference clubs, Delia functioned as a reliable veteran presence in the minors, providing stability during periods of injury and transition in the Oilers' and Jets' goaltending pipelines, but opportunities at the NHL level remained limited as younger prospects and established starters dominated the depth chart.[4]Brynäs IF (2025–present)
On July 11, 2025, Collin Delia signed a one-year contract with Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) as an unrestricted free agent following the expiration of his agreement with the Edmonton Oilers organization.[1][25] The deal positioned the 31-year-old American goaltender as the starting netminder for the Gävle-based club, marking his first professional stint in Europe after years in North American leagues.[26] This transition allowed Delia to pursue greater playing opportunities abroad, where he could anchor the team's goaltending amid Brynäs IF's ambitions in the competitive SHL.[27] Delia made his SHL debut during the 2025–26 regular season opener in September, stepping in as the primary starter and sharing duties with backup Damian Clara.[4] Early in the campaign, he faced a steep adjustment to the league's emphasis on speed, puck possession, and smaller rink dimensions compared to North American hockey.[28] Performance highlights include a tough start where he allowed 11 goals across his first two games against Frölunda HC and Luleå HF, contributing to losses but showcasing resilience in high-shot volume scenarios.[28] By mid-November 2025, in six regular-season appearances as of November 14, 2025, Delia posted a 1–4–0 record, a 3.87 goals-against average, and a .790 save percentage, with no shutouts recorded. This includes a 3–4 loss to Malmö Redhawks on November 13, 2025, where he started in net.[23][29][30] As of November 14, 2025, Delia continues to serve as Brynäs IF's lead goaltender, splitting time amid the team's mid-table position in the SHL standings after 19 games played.[31] His contributions have helped stabilize the defense in key matches, such as a 5–2 road win over Skellefteå AIK on October 30, though the club has yet to earn any initial team awards or individual honors for Delia this season.[32] The move to Europe has provided Delia with consistent starts, aiding his adaptation to international play while Brynäs IF builds momentum toward the playoffs.[33]Career statistics
