Dominic Canzone
Dominic Canzone is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB).[1] Born Dominic Gene Canzone on August 16, 1997, in Cleveland, Ohio, he attended Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio before playing college baseball for the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he batted .336 with 23 home runs over three seasons.[1][2] Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round (242nd overall) of the 2019 MLB Draft, Canzone signed a professional contract and spent four years in the minors, compiling a .306 batting average with 80 home runs and a .926 OPS across 349 games in the Diamondbacks' system.[3] He made his MLB debut on July 8, 2023, with Arizona, recording a single in his first at-bat, before being traded to the Mariners on July 31, 2023, in a deal that sent reliever Paul Sewald to the Diamondbacks.[4][1] Early MLB Career and Adjustment (2023–2024)Canzone appeared in 59 games split between Arizona and Seattle during the 2023 season, batting .220 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 173 at-bats, while primarily playing right field and showing solid defensive skills with a .986 fielding percentage.[4] In 2024, he played 67 games exclusively for the Mariners, hitting .196 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs, often serving as a platoon player and utility outfielder amid injuries and roster competition.[1] His early major league tenure highlighted his left-handed power potential but also adjustment challenges against big-league pitching, as evidenced by a career OPS of .652 through 2024.[4] Breakout 2025 Season and Playoff Contribution
Canzone experienced a significant resurgence in 2025, batting .300 with 11 home runs, 32 RBIs, and three stolen bases over 82 games for Seattle, achieving a .839 OPS that marked his most productive MLB campaign to date.[1][4] He contributed defensively in the outfield during the Mariners' postseason run, including the American League Division Series (ALDS) and American League Championship Series (ALCS), where he notably drove in key runs and nearly tied a playoff game with a deep fly ball on October 17.[4] Standing at 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, Canzone bats left-handed and throws right-handed, establishing himself as a versatile corner outfielder with growing power and plate discipline in his late 20s.[1]
