Komander
Komander is a Mexican luchador enmascarado (masked professional wrestler) renowned for his high-flying, acrobatic style, currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) under the Ring of Honor (ROH) brand.[1] Born on December 15, 1998, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, he made his professional wrestling debut on December 16, 2012, at the age of 14, initially performing in local venues like Arena Coliseo Reynosa.[1] Trained by notable figures including Black Shadow Jr., Bandido, Skayde, Flamita, Nacho Zapata, and Súper Chucky, Komander quickly established himself on the independent circuit, competing for promotions such as WAR City Wrestling, Lucha Memes, and Mexico's AAA (Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide).[1] His career gained international prominence with a U.S. debut for Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) in June 2022, followed by signing with AEW in April 2023, where he has showcased signature maneuvers like rope walks and the 450 splash.[1][2] Throughout his career, Komander has captured several championships, including the AAA World Tag Team Championship with partner Arez in May 2023 and the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship, highlighting his versatility as both a singles and tag team competitor.[1] In ROH, he achieved a major milestone by winning the ROH World Television Championship in a Survival of the Fittest match at Final Battle on December 20, 2024, defeating challengers including Brian Cage, Willie Mack, AR Fox, Mark Davis, and Blake Christian.[3] He successfully defended the title multiple times before losing it to Nick Wayne on April 17, 2025, during an episode of AEW Collision.[4] Standing at 5'5" (166 cm) and weighing 161 lbs (73 kg), Komander's compact build enhances his aerial prowess, making him a standout in the lucha libre tradition while continuing to compete in high-profile matches across AEW and ROH events as of November 2025.[2]Early life and personal life
Early life
Komander was born on December 15, 1998, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico.[5] His birth was premature, and he faced severe health challenges during early infancy, nearly dying on two separate occasions due to complications related to his condition.[6][7] These early struggles profoundly shaped his resilience, as he later reflected that the experiences instilled a deep appreciation for life and a drive to persevere.[6] He spent his childhood in Reynosa, a border city near Texas known for its vibrant local wrestling scene, where his family provided strong support despite being the first generation involved in the sport.[1] Initially drawn to soccer as a potential career path, Komander's aspirations shifted after his parents explained they could not afford the necessary equipment and opportunities.[6] His father introduced him to lucha libre by taking him to live events, fostering an early fascination with the athleticism and spectacle of the ring.[6] Around the age of 12, Komander began performing backflips and other acrobatics inside wrestling rings during local shows, marking the start of his immersion in the sport.[6] Inspired by the high-flying style of lucha libre and influences like circus performances, as well as the singer El Komander (from whom his ring name derives, suggested by his father), he decided at approximately 13 or 14 to pursue professional wrestling seriously.[6] His parents backed this ambition by constructing a makeshift backyard ring incrementally and, in a significant sacrifice, his mother sold inherited land to fund his initial training.[6]Personal life
Komander adheres to the longstanding tradition among masked luchadores of withholding his real name and personal identity from the public, thereby upholding the enigmatic allure of his character.[8] Public information about Komander's family remains limited, but his parents have played a pivotal role in his life; his father suggested his ring name, inspired by a beloved singer, while his mother made significant personal sacrifices, such as selling inherited land, to support his early aspirations.[9][6] As of September 2025, he resides in Reynosa to remain near his family.[6] Komander receives personal support from close associate Alex Abrahantes, who joined him in an interview to discuss aspects of his background.[6]Professional wrestling career
Mexican independent circuit (2012–present)
Komander made his professional wrestling debut in 2012 at the age of 14 in local promotions based in his hometown of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He had begun training the previous year under the guidance of Black Shadow Jr., Nacho Zapata, and Super Chucky, honing his skills in aerial maneuvers that would become his signature style. Early matches were held in small venues in the Reynosa area, where he competed as a rudo (heel) before transitioning to a técnico (face) persona, building a reputation for high-flying spots despite his youth.[10][11][12] In 2014, Komander co-founded the stable Reyes del Aire del Reynosa alongside Rey Astral and Magnifico, a group focused on showcasing agile, high-risk wrestling in regional independent shows under Panther Promotions. The faction emphasized teamwork in trios matches, helping Komander gain local prominence through collaborative performances that highlighted their synchronized dives and flips. This alliance marked a key step in his development, providing opportunities to refine his in-ring chemistry and establish himself as a rising talent in Tamaulipas' lucha libre scene.[12][13] The stable achieved its first major success in 2015 when Komander, Rey Astral, and Magnifico captured the War City Trios Championship in Reynosa-based promotions, holding the titles for an initial reign that solidified their status as aerial specialists. They defended the belts in several regional events, emphasizing fast-paced trios action against local competitors, before vacating them later that year; the group reclaimed the championship a second time in subsequent defenses, though exact durations remain tied to independent scheduling. This accomplishment represented Komander's inaugural title win and boosted his visibility, leading to a one-off appearance in a dark match for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's Sin Límite tour in Reynosa that year.[13][11][10] By 2017, Komander expanded his reach beyond northern Mexico, relocating to Mexico City to pursue broader opportunities and debuting for the Lucha Memes promotion in May of that year. His first match there was a singles loss, but subsequent appearances showcased his evolving style, including innovative rope-walking spots, earning praise from urban audiences and promoters. This move allowed him to compete against a wider array of indie talent, fostering growth in his technical and storytelling abilities while maintaining ties to Reynosa promotions.[12][13] In 2021, Komander won the Kaoz Lucha Libre Junior Cruiserweight Championship on June 20 during a five-way match at an AAA/KAOZ event, defeating champion Charro Negro along with Dinamico, Toxin, and Villano III Jr. He held the title for nearly a year, making several defenses against cruiserweight challengers in independent shows across Mexico, which highlighted his resilience and aerial prowess amid a demanding schedule. However, on August 29 at a Big Lucha event, he suffered a severe knee ligament tear during a match against Emperador Azteca, requiring surgery and sidelining him for several months. Komander returned to the ring by late 2021, using the recovery period to strengthen his conditioning and adapt his high-flying repertoire to mitigate injury risks.[13][11][14] He lost the Kaoz Junior Cruiserweight Championship on June 2, 2022, to Dinamico in a six-way match at IWRG's Villanos vs. Brazos event, ending a reign noted for its successful defenses that elevated his profile in the junior division. Following this, Komander continued sporadic appearances on the Mexican independent circuit, including events for Big Lucha and other regional promotions through 2024 and into 2025, where he has balanced international commitments with high-profile indie matches emphasizing his signature corkscrew moonsaults and rope-assisted dives. These outings have allowed him to mentor younger talents while maintaining his roots in Mexico's vibrant independent scene.[13][12][15]Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (2015; 2019–2024)
Komander made his first appearance for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) on May 30, 2015, competing in a dark match alongside Asterisco Jr., Magnifico, and Rey Astral against Imagen de Oro, Imagen II, Maldicion, and Rocker Boy during a television taping in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.[11] This untelevised bout marked a one-off opportunity, as Komander was underage and without a formal contract at the time.[1] Komander returned to AAA on August 10, 2019, making his official televised debut in Saltillo, Coahuila, where he teamed with Eclipse Jr. and Lady Shani to defeat Villano III Jr., Australian Suicide, and La Hiedra.[1] He signed a full-time contract shortly thereafter, transitioning from the Mexican independent scene to AAA's national platform, where his high-flying maneuvers quickly established him as a standout in the cruiserweight division.[16] Throughout 2019 and into 2020, Komander featured in various multi-man matches and undercard bouts, building momentum through aerial displays that highlighted his agility and precision.[11] In 2022, Komander began forming key alliances, notably teaming with Arez to pursue opportunities in AAA's tag team division. This partnership gained traction in early 2023, positioning them as contenders amid a push for fresh talent in the tag ranks. On May 20, 2023, at a television taping in Morelia, Michoacán, Arez and Komander captured the vacant AAA World Tag Team Championship in a three-way match, defeating Octagón Jr. and Rey Horus, as well as Jack Evans and Myzteziz Jr.[17] Their 183-day reign included successful defenses against teams such as La Rebelión (Bestia 666 and Mecha Wolf) leading into major events like Triplemanía XXXI, showcasing their synergy in high-risk tag contests.[18] The title run concluded on November 19, 2023, at Guerra de Titanes in Mexico City, where they lost to Forastero and Sansón of Nueva Generación Dinamita in a hard-fought match.[11] Following the tag title loss, Komander shifted focus to the singles cruiserweight landscape, entering a tournament for the vacant AAA World Cruiserweight Championship. On September 23, 2023, during a television taping in Mexico City, he won the title in a four-way elimination match by defeating Kuukai, La Estrella, and Mecha Wolf 450, securing his first singles championship in AAA.[11] His 329-day reign emphasized innovative defenses that blended technical wrestling with spectacular dives, including a notable retention against Laredo Kid in a competitive bout that underscored ongoing rivalries in the division.[19] Komander also defended the belt against challengers like Action Jackson on March 10, 2024, maintaining his status as a top high-flyer.[10] The cruiserweight reign ended on August 17, 2024, at Triplemanía XXXII in Mexico City, where Komander dropped the title to Matt Riddle in a triple threat match also involving Laredo Kid. This loss was influenced by strained relations between AAA and All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Komander's primary employer since April 2023, prompting AAA to book the title change to facilitate his departure from the promotion.[20] Komander's intermittent AAA tenure concluded amid these contractual tensions, allowing him to prioritize U.S.-based commitments.[21]United States independent circuit (2022–present)
Komander made his United States debut on June 18, 2022, at Game Changer Wrestling's (GCW) You Wouldn't Understand event in Queens, New York, where he competed in a seven-way scramble match won by Blake Christian against opponents including Alec Price, John Wayne Murdoch, Jordan Oliver, Jack Cartwheel, and Cole Radrick. His high-flying style immediately drew attention in the match, showcasing aerial maneuvers that highlighted his agility despite the loss.[22] Following this, Komander returned to GCW for multiple appearances throughout 2022, including a singles loss to Tony Deppen at No Signal in the Hills 2 on July 15, a singles loss to Gringo Loco at Back 2 the Bay on July 17, a four-way loss to Nick Wayne on October 22, and a singles victory over Shaner on October 23.[23][24] These bookings established him as a reliable high-flyer on the East Coast indie scene, often featuring dives and rope-walking spots that captivated audiences.[11] In late 2022, Komander expanded to the West Coast by debuting for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) on November 6 at the DINK event, teaming with Aramis and Bandido to defeat Arez, Black Taurus, and Latigo in a six-man tag team match.[25] His momentum continued into 2023 with standout performances in GCW, such as a singles win over Joey Janela on August 4 at My Name Is, and a participation in a seven-way match loss to Jimmy Lloyd on August 19 at Homecoming Weekend.[26] Komander's most notable U.S. indie showcase came at PWG's Battle of Los Angeles tournament in January 2023, where he advanced to the semifinals by defeating Latigo in the first round on January 7 and former PWG World Champion Bandido in the quarterfinals on January 8, before losing to Konosuke Takeshita.[27] The upset victory over Bandido, praised for its innovative sequences and Komander's precise execution of flips and counters, significantly elevated his profile among North American promoters and led to AEW tryouts later that year.[28] Post-signing with All Elite Wrestling in early 2023, Komander maintained a part-time presence on the U.S. independent circuit, balancing it with his contracted obligations. In GCW, he competed in a three-way loss to Gringo Loco and Arez on July 14 at Now and Forever, a triple-threat loss to El Hijo del Vikingo on May 26 at Lifestyle, and a singles victory over Dragon Kid on August 20, 2024, at Homecoming Weekend, where his rope-assisted corkscrew plancha was a highlight.[29] These sporadic appearances in 2024 and into 2025 underscored his continued demand for international tours and multi-promotion events, allowing him to refine his high-flying arsenal while building a global fanbase prior to his full integration into larger U.S. promotions.[11]All Elite Wrestling / Ring of Honor (2023–present)
Komander made his initial appearances for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in early 2023, building on his momentum from the United States independent circuit, before officially signing a multi-year contract with the promotion on April 19, 2023.[30] His AEW television debut took place on the March 1, 2023, episode of Dynamite, where he competed in the Face of the Revolution ladder match for a future TNT Championship opportunity.[31] In AEW, Komander frequently performs with his manager Alex Abrahantes, who provides commentary and interference in matches, enhancing his high-flying persona.[32] Key storylines have included his participation in the 2024 Continental Classic tournament, where he competed in the Gold League and secured notable victories, such as a controversial win over Claudio Castagnoli using brass knuckles on the December 25, 2024, episode of Dynamite.[33] On December 20, 2024, at ROH Final Battle, Komander won the ROH World Television Championship in a Survival of the Fittest elimination match, defeating Brian Cage, Blake Christian, Mark Davis, Willie Mack, and AR Fox to claim his first title in the promotion.[3] His 118-day reign featured several defenses against midcard competitors, including successful retainments over Johnny TV on December 26, 2024, at Boxing Day Brawl; QT Marshall on January 23, 2025; and Dark Panther on March 20, 2025.[34][35] The championship run ended on April 17, 2025, when he lost the title to Nick Wayne on an episode of AEW Collision.[36] Komander's AEW matches have highlighted his aerial acrobatics, with standout bouts including a high-flying clash against Hologram on the October 8, 2024, episode of Dynamite, featuring innovative dives and sequences that showcased both wrestlers' agility.[37] He also participated in a fatal four-way match at Full Gear on November 23, 2024, against Buddy Matthews, Dante Martin, and The Beast Mortos, and engaged in intense rivalries with international talents like Hechicero on the November 30, 2024, episode of Rampage.[38] As of November 2025, Komander remains an active competitor across AEW and ROH, recently earning a future ROH Pure Championship opportunity after a 10-minute time limit draw with champion Lee Moriarty in a Proving Ground match on the November 6, 2025, episode of ROH on HonorClub.[32]Japan (2022–present)
Komander made his debut in Japanese professional wrestling on October 9, 2022, appearing for the GLEAT promotion at the Ver. Extra event in Tokyo's Korakuen Hall. Partnered with Bandido in a tag team match, he secured a victory over Kaz Hayashi and Soma Watanabe, introducing his acrobatic high-flying style— including rope-walking sequences and springboard dives—to a new audience in the puroresu scene.[11] Returning to GLEAT in early 2023, Komander competed on March 21 at an event where he teamed with the STRONG HEARTS faction (CIMA and T-Hawk) to defeat Hartley Jackson, Yutani, and Violento El Zomby in a six-man tag team bout. This match pitted him against a mix of technical and aerial specialists, allowing him to adapt his lucha libre offense to GLEAT's hybrid format that incorporates stiff strikes and martial arts influences alongside traditional wrestling.[11] Komander was initially booked for GLEAT's Ver. 6: 2nd Anniversary Show on July 1, 2023, in a six-man tag team match alongside Bandido and Kento Miyahara against Kaito Ishida, Kotaro Suzuki, and Flamita, but the appearance did not occur due to visa issues. No further appearances in Japan have been reported as of November 2025.[39]Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (2025–present)
Komander made his debut for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) on March 21, 2025, at the Homenaje a Dos Leyendas event in Arena México, Mexico City.[40] Teaming with Hologram as Los Titanes del Aire, he faced the established Sky Team of Místico and Máscara Dorada in a tag team match that highlighted high-flying action.[41] The bout ended in defeat for Komander and Hologram after Místico applied La Mística submission hold on Komander.[42] Despite the loss, the match garnered strong praise from the Arena México audience, who appreciated the athleticism and innovative maneuvers from the AEW-contracted duo, marking a successful introduction to CMLL's traditional arena environment.[43] This appearance was enabled by the ongoing collaboration between AEW and CMLL, which facilitates cross-promotional bookings for talents like Komander.[44] Komander's early momentum in CMLL was interrupted by injury when he suffered a significant knee issue on June 8, 2025, during an independent match in Oaxaca, Mexico.[45] This led to his removal from the FantasticaMania México 2025 lineup on June 20, where he was set to team with Bandido and Hologram against Místico, Máscara Dorada, and Volador Jr. in a six-man tag team match; CMLL confirmed the change and indicated plans to reschedule the contest.[46] By September 2025, Komander was advertised for a return to in-ring action on October 19, 2025, in Reynosa, Mexico, partnering once again with Hologram.[47] As of November 2025, he has resumed competing in AEW and Ring of Honor events, with his CMLL involvement continuing under the AEW partnership framework. Upcoming matches include a singles bout against The Beast Mortos on November 21, 2025, at Viernes Espectacular, and a tag team match partnering with The Beast Mortos against Atlantis Jr. and Difunto on November 22, 2025, at Sabado de Coliseo, though no additional matches in the promotion have occurred since his debut.[48][49]In-ring achievements
Championships and accomplishments
Komander's professional wrestling career includes several championship reigns across various promotions, highlighting his versatility as a high-flying luchador. His earliest notable accomplishment came in the Mexican independent scene, where he captured the WAR City Trios Championship in 2015 as part of the team Reyes del Aire del Reynosa alongside Rey Astral and Magnifico.[1] This marked one of two reigns with the title for the trio, establishing Komander's early success in trios competition within regional promotions.[50] On June 20, 2021, Komander won the KAOZ Junior Cruiserweight Championship by defeating Charro Negro, Toxin, Villano III Jr., and Dinamicó in a five-way match at KAOZ Lucha Libre's third anniversary event in Monterrey.[11] He held the title for nearly a year until losing it to Dinamicó in a six-way match at IWRG's Villanos vs. Brazos event on June 2, 2022. During this reign, Komander made multiple successful defenses, solidifying his status as a top junior cruiserweight talent in the promotion.[2] In Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Komander achieved significant success in the tag team division. On May 20, 2023, he and Arez defeated Octagón Jr. and Rey Horus, as well as Jack Evans and Myzteziz Jr., in a three-way match to win the vacant AAA World Tag Team Championship at an AAA TV taping in Morelia, Michoacán.[17] The duo held the titles for 183 days, with key defenses including a successful outing against La Rebelión (Abismo Negro Jr. and Mr. Iguana) before losing the championships to Forastero and Sansón at Guerra de Titanes on November 19, 2023, in Mexico City.[51] This reign underscored Komander's growing prominence in AAA's cruiserweight tag scene. Later that year, on September 23, 2023, Komander captured the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship for the first time by defeating Kuakai, La Estrella, and Mecha Wolf in a four-way elimination match in Mexico City. He defended the title against notable challengers, including feuds with Laredo Kid and international crossovers, maintaining the belt for 329 days until dropping it to Matt Riddle in a three-way match also involving Laredo Kid at Triplemanía XXXII: Mexico City on August 17, 2024.[52] This extended reign highlighted Komander's elevated push within AAA's cruiserweight division.[21] Transitioning to Ring of Honor, Komander won the ROH World Television Championship on December 20, 2024, by last eliminating Brian Cage in a survival of the fittest-style match at Final Battle in New York City.[3] He held the title for 118 days, featuring defenses across ROH events and AEW crossovers, such as against Blake Christian and in proving ground matches, before losing it to Nick Wayne on April 17, 2025, during an episode of AEW Collision in Boston.[53][54] In addition to his title successes, Komander has received recognition for his in-ring style. He ranked in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated 500 in 2023, was named Best Flying Wrestler by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in 2024, and earned the Most Underrated Wrestler accolade from the same publication in 2025.[55] These honors reflect his impact as an aerial innovator in professional wrestling.Luchas de Apuestas record
Komander's record in Luchas de Apuestas, the traditional lucha libre wager matches where wrestlers risk their mask or hair, stands at 1 win and 0 losses as of November 2025. These victories highlight his early career resilience on the Mexican independent circuit, where he staked his enmascarado identity against opponents' personal stakes. The match involved Komander putting his mask on the line, underscoring the high personal risk in preserving his luchador persona. His first recorded Lucha de Apuestas occurred on October 4, 2015, at Arena Coliseo Reynosa in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, during an independent promotion event. In a mask vs. hair match, Komander defeated Ronaldinho, the former War City Cruiserweight Champion and noted soccer personality turned wrestler, forcing him to be shaved bald while retaining his own mask. This triumph marked Komander's debut in such high-stakes bouts and solidified his rising status in regional promotions.[56] The significance of these undefeated results lies in Komander's unbroken streak of protecting his mask, a central tenet of lucha libre culture symbolizing honor and anonymity. Unlike many rudos or technicos who eventually lose their wager, Komander's successes have allowed him to continue competing as an enmascarado, enhancing his mystique and fan appeal across promotions.[1]| Stake | Opponent | Event | Date | Outcome |
