Mitzi Kapture
Mitzi Kapture (born Mitzi Gaynor Donahue; May 2, 1962) is an American actress and director best known for her lead role as Sgt. Rita Lee Lance in the CBS/USA Network crime drama series Silk Stalkings (1991–1995).[1] Born in Yorba Linda, California, to parents Patrick and Bobbie Donahue, Kapture initially studied business and computer science at Berry College in Georgia before shifting her focus to acting, training at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.[2] Her early career in the late 1980s included supporting roles in films such as Angel III: The Final Chapter (1988), where she portrayed Molly Stewart/Angel, and guest appearances on television shows like MacGyver.[1] The role of Sgt. Lance in Silk Stalkings—a series centered on Palm Springs detectives investigating sex-related crimes—marked her breakthrough, earning her widespread recognition over four seasons alongside co-star Rob Estes. Following the show's conclusion, Kapture took on diverse roles, including the lead in the thriller Night of Terror (2006) and a recurring part as Captain Alexis "Alex" Ryker on Baywatch during its 1998–1999 season.[3] Expanding into directing, she helmed the documentary The Process (2017), which explores personal transformation through therapy. In her personal life, Kapture married singer and songwriter Bradley Kapture in 1982; the couple divorced after more than two decades together and share twin daughters Madison and Emerson, born January 24, 1996.[2] She has since advocated for health and wellness, earning certification in plant-based nutrition from Cornell University.[4]Early life and education
Birth and family
Mitzi Kapture was born Mitzi Gaynor Donahue on May 2, 1962, in Yorba Linda, California.[5] She is the daughter of Patrick Donahue and Bobbie Donahue.[2][6] Her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, when she was about 11 years old. Kapture spent her early childhood in Southern California.[6] She adopted the professional surname Kapture following her marriage to Bradley Kapture in 1982.[5]Education and initial career pursuits
Kapture attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she studied business and computer science. While in college, she began exploring her interest in acting through involvement with the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, participating in various productions that sparked her passion for performance.[2][7] Encouraged by her growing commitment to acting, Kapture decided to leave college early and relocate to Los Angeles in the mid-1980s to pursue a professional career in the field full-time. Upon arriving in California, she sustained herself through initial modeling work and other minor non-acting jobs while seeking opportunities in the entertainment industry.[7]Professional career
Early acting roles
Mitzi Kapture entered the acting industry with a minor supporting role as a cowgirl in the 1987 horror-comedy film House II: The Second Story, marking her screen debut in a story involving supernatural elements and a haunted house.[8] This appearance showcased her early presence in low-budget genre fare, where she contributed to the film's ensemble of quirky characters navigating otherworldly threats. In 1988, Kapture secured a more prominent lead role as Molly Stewart, alias Angel, in Angel III: The Final Chapter, the third installment in the exploitation action series.[9] Portraying a freelance photographer who poses as a sex worker to dismantle a white-slave ring and rescue her kidnapped sister, the character allowed Kapture to demonstrate physicality and determination in high-stakes action sequences.[10] That same year, she starred as Debra J., a rising rock musician stalked by her murderous ex-boyfriend, in the thriller Lethal Pursuit, further emphasizing her ability to handle tense, adrenaline-fueled narratives.[11] Additionally, Kapture made her television guest appearance on MacGyver in the episode "Rock the Cradle," playing Katie, a woman entangled in a kidnapping plot amid MacGyver's improvisational heroics. Kapture continued building her action credentials in 1989 with the role of Sarah in Liberty & Bash, a vigilante drama where she depicted the pregnant girlfriend and colleague of a tough parole officer aiding at-risk youth against criminal elements.[12] In this film, her character navigated personal vulnerabilities alongside community protection efforts, blending emotional depth with confrontational scenes. These successive parts in independent action pictures from the late 1980s positioned Kapture as an emerging talent in the genre, often cast in resilient female leads confronting danger and moral dilemmas.Breakthrough in television
Mitzi Kapture landed her breakthrough role as Sgt. Rita Lee Lance in the crime drama series Silk Stalkings, which debuted on November 7, 1991. Lance was depicted as a tough, street-smart detective navigating the seedy underbelly of Palm Beach's wealthy elite, often solving "silk stalkings"—crimes fueled by passion and excess—with a blend of intuition and grit.[13][14] Kapture starred alongside Rob Estes, who portrayed her partner Sgt. Chris Lorenzo, through the first four seasons from 1991 to 1995, forming a dynamic duo whose professional synergy and underlying tension drove much of the narrative. During this period, she also took on a supporting role as Edie Roberts, the concerned neighbor and love interest to the protagonist, in the 1992 horror-comedy The Vagrant, directed by Chris Walas. The series initially aired as part of CBS's late-night Crimetime After Primetime block while simulcast on USA Network, but following CBS's cancellation of the programming slate in 1993, it transitioned exclusively to USA Network, where it continued to build a dedicated audience.[15][16] Critics and viewers noted Silk Stalkings' distinctive fusion of procedural crime drama with high-gloss glamour, featuring stylish visuals, beachside settings, and themes of sensuality amid murder investigations, which set it apart from more straightforward cop shows. While the series earned a 1992 Primetime Emmy nomination for its main title theme music, Kapture's performance garnered "For Your Consideration" buzz but no personal nominations or wins.[17][18][19][20] Kapture left the show in 1995 after 81 episodes, seeking new professional challenges that included expanding her family with the birth of her twins. Her tenure on Silk Stalkings solidified her as a leading figure in 1990s television, elevating her from supporting roles to a household name in the genre.[21]Later projects and directing
Following her departure from Silk Stalkings in 1995, Mitzi Kapture continued to take on select television guest roles, including a recurring appearance as Alex Ryker, a lifeguard, on Baywatch during its ninth season from 1998 to 1999.[22] She later portrayed the character Anita Hodges, a manipulative socialite and mother to Brittany Hodges, on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless from 2002 to 2005, appearing in 32 episodes as the character schemed to advance her family's status in Genoa City. Kapture's film work in this period included supporting roles in thrillers and dramas. In 1997, she starred as Joanne Jensen, a determined Navy investigator pursuing justice in the made-for-TV mystery Perfect Crime, where her character uncovers evidence in a high-profile disappearance case. She returned to the genre in 2006 with the lead role of Jill Dunne, a mother facing terror during a family boating trip gone wrong, in the Lifetime thriller Night of Terror. Kapture also appeared as Dr. Kerry Jeffus, a supportive therapist, in the 2008 independent drama God's Ears, which explores themes of autism and personal redemption through a boxer's story. Transitioning into directing, Kapture made her debut behind the camera by helming one episode of Silk Stalkings in 1994, during her tenure as a lead actress on the series.[23] She expanded this interest with the 2017 documentary The Process, which she wrote, produced, and directed, offering an intimate look at renowned acting coach Larry Moss mentoring performers in technique and emotional depth.[24] The film premiered at the Directors Guild of America and highlights Moss's methods through sessions with emerging talent.[25] In the 2010s, Kapture's acting output became more selective, with a notable guest spot as Gina, a magazine publisher, in the 2010 episode "Refusing to Budget" of the CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement.[26] By 2017, following The Process, she has had no major acting or directing projects announced or released as of November 2025, marking a period of reduced professional activity.[1]Personal life
Marriage and family
Kapture married singer and songwriter Bradley Kapture in 1982.[2][27] The couple welcomed twin daughters, Madison "Madi" Kapture and Emerson Kapture, on January 24, 1996.[5] They divorced in 2002 after over 20 years of marriage.[28] Kapture's commitment to motherhood significantly shaped her professional decisions, including her departure from the series Silk Stalkings in 1996 to focus on family life following the birth of her daughters; she returned to acting the following year after taking time off to prioritize her children.[29]Philanthropy and privacy
Following her divorce from Bradley Kapture in 2002, Mitzi Kapture adopted a low-profile lifestyle, largely avoiding the public eye to focus on personal well-being and family.[6] This shift emphasized privacy, with limited media appearances, allowing her to prioritize raising her two daughters, Madison and Emerson, away from Hollywood's demands.[6] After concluding her recurring role on Baywatch in 1999, she reduced her acting commitments to embrace motherhood more fully.[6] In the 2010s, Kapture pursued lifestyle changes centered on health and self-improvement, becoming a certified plant-based nutritionist through Cornell University and offering mentoring and coaching services to clients seeking guidance on wellness and life goals.[6][4] These endeavors reflect her dedication to personal growth and work-life balance, maintaining a private presence on social media through verified but low-key accounts.[6] Kapture has engaged in philanthropy, particularly supporting child welfare through her role as national spokesperson for the Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society, an organization aiding families affected by the rare genetic disorder that impairs DNA repair and heightens cancer risks in children exposed to sunlight.[2] In 2005, she wrote, produced, and directed public service announcements for the society to raise awareness of the condition.[30]Filmography
