Animal Logic
Animal Logic is a prominent visual effects (VFX), animation, and digital design studio specializing in high-quality content for feature films, television, and interactive media.[1] Founded in 1991 by Zareh Nalbandian and Chris Godfrey in Sydney, Australia, the company originated as a digital post-production house and evolved into a global leader in creative digital production.[1][2] With principal studios in Sydney, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, Animal Logic employs advanced pipelines for animation, VFX, and design, supporting a workforce of artists and technologists dedicated to innovative storytelling.[3][4] In July 2022, Netflix acquired Animal Logic in an all-cash deal, integrating it into Netflix Animation Studios to bolster original animated content production; by 2024, the teams unified across locations to collaborate on upcoming projects.[5][6] Notable Achievements and ProjectsAnimal Logic first gained international recognition for its VFX contributions to The Matrix (1999), which earned an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 2000.[2] The studio's animation milestone came with Happy Feet (2006), Australia's first fully computer-animated feature film, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2007 and marked Animal Logic's largest production to date.[7][8] Subsequent highlights include the VFX and animation for The Lego Movie (2014), recipient of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation, and won the BAFTA Children's Award for Feature Film.[9][10] The company has also delivered acclaimed work on Peter Rabbit (2018), winning the AACTA Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation, and its sequel Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021), which secured the same honor in 2021.[11][12] In recent years, as part of Netflix, Animal Logic contributed to animated features such as The Magician's Elephant (2023) and Leo (2023).[13][14] Throughout its history, Animal Logic has amassed over a dozen AACTA Awards, BAFTA nominations, and other accolades, establishing it as a key player in the global animation and VFX industry.[15][9]
