Brandon Silvers
Brandon Silvers (born May 9, 1994) is an American professional football quarterback for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League (UFL).[1] He played college football at Troy University, where he was a four-year starter from 2014 to 2017, amassing 10,684 passing yards and 71 touchdowns while earning All-Sun Belt honors multiple times.[2][3] After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Silvers has built a career in alternative professional leagues, including the Alliance of American Football (AAF), XFL, The Spring League (TSL), and UFL.[4][5] Silvers grew up in Orange Beach, Alabama, and attended Gulf Shores High School, where he started as quarterback during his junior and senior years.[6] As a senior in 2012, he was rated a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 27 quarterback prospect in the nation by recruiting services.[7] Silvers enrolled at Troy University in 2013 and redshirted his true freshman season before becoming the starter for four years from 2014 to 2017.[2] In 2015, he threw for 2,378 yards and 20 touchdowns, earning All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention honors.[2][3] He followed with a breakout 2016 campaign, leading the Sun Belt Conference with 293 completions on 460 attempts for 3,180 yards and 23 touchdowns, which earned him All-Sun Belt First Team recognition and placements on watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.[2][8][9][10] As a senior in 2017, Silvers passed for a career-high 3,290 yards and 17 touchdowns, adding All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention honors and finishing as a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.[2][3][10] Over his career, he completed 64.4% of his passes with just 29 interceptions in 1,504 attempts, ranking among the Sun Belt's all-time leaders in completions (second with 969) and passing yards (fourth with 10,684) since the conference's FBS era began in 2001.[2] Following his college career, Silvers signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in May 2018 but was released before the season.[11] He then joined the Memphis Express of the AAF in 2019, appearing in five games and completing 80 of 125 passes (64.0%) for 799 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.[12] In 2020, Silvers signed with the Seattle Dragons of the XFL, starting all five games of the league's abbreviated season before it suspended operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic; he completed 53 of 102 passes (52.0%) for 539 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions.[5][12] Silvers started all eight games for the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL's 2023 relaunch, completing 156 of 262 passes (59.5%) for 1,551 yards, 13 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He played for the Conquerors in the TSL in 2021, throwing for nine touchdowns in four games as part of a 3,574-yard, 32-touchdown spring football career total across leagues.[12] In 2024, following the XFL-UFL merger, he joined the Battlehawks, where he has served primarily as a backup but appeared in limited action, including two games in the 2025 season with 13 completions on 18 attempts for 205 yards and one touchdown.[13][14][15]Early life and high school
Early life
Brandon Silvers was born William Brandon Silvers on May 9, 1994, in Pensacola, Florida, to parents Roz Ann and Jeff Silvers.[3] He has one brother, Chase.[3] The family relocated to Orange Beach, Alabama, shortly after his birth, where Silvers grew up in the coastal Gulf Shores area.[3] As a youth, Silvers participated in basketball and baseball, competing in AAU basketball nationals in Atlanta and baseball nationals in Orlando.[16] Silvers' family has strong athletic ties, particularly in football. His uncle, Carey Christensen, was the starting quarterback for Troy University's 1984 national championship team, an achievement that highlighted the family's connection to the sport.[3] His mother, Roz Ann Silvers, attended Troy University and came from an athletic background, while extended family members, including his grandfather Raymond Christensen and aunt Metta Christensen, are inductees in the Foley High School Hall of Fame for their sports contributions.[17] These familial influences, combined with the local football culture in the Gulf Shores region—a community with a tradition of producing standout high school athletes—fostered Silvers' early interest in the game. This background laid the foundation for his later athletic pursuits.High school career
Brandon Silvers attended Gulf Shores High School in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he played quarterback for the Dolphins football team before graduating in 2012.[3] Silvers began starting as the quarterback during his junior year in 2010, marking his first season in that role under coach Mark Freeman's spread offense. That year, he threw for 2,468 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, helping to establish him as a notable prospect. As a senior in 2011, Silvers completed 108 of 201 passes for 1,400 yards and six touchdowns, achieving a 54% completion rate while leading the team in a 5-5 season.[16][18][3][19] Recognized for his performance, Silvers earned a three-star recruit rating and was ranked as the No. 27 quarterback nationally by ESPN.[20] He committed to Troy University on November 19, 2011, and signed his National Letter of Intent shortly thereafter, opting for the Trojans over other programs like Southern Miss.[21][20]College career
Troy University
Brandon Silvers, a highly touted quarterback from Gulf Shores High School in Alabama, committed to Troy University in November 2011 after a competitive recruitment process that highlighted his potential as a pocket passer.[21] Silvers enrolled at Troy in 2013, redshirting his true freshman year. As a redshirt freshman in 2014, Silvers made an immediate impact for the Troy Trojans, appearing in 11 games and setting an NCAA record for the highest completion percentage by a freshman with a 70.5% mark.[22][3] He transitioned into the full-time starter role during his sophomore year in 2015, earning All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention recognition for his leadership of the offense despite the team's challenges.[3] In his junior season of 2016, Silvers elevated his performance, guiding the Trojans to a 10-3 record and a berth in the Dollar General Bowl, where they secured a victory over Ohio University. His efforts that year earned him All-Sun Belt First Team honors, underscoring his development as a precise and efficient signal-caller.[3] As a senior in 2017, Silvers served as team captain while leading Troy to another bowl appearance, the New Orleans Bowl, resulting in a win against North Texas; he received All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention for his contributions.[3] Over his four years as the primary starter, Silvers helped lead Troy to two bowl victories that marked the program's first bowl wins since 2006. He graduated with a degree in sport and fitness management, minoring in tourism.[23] In December 2017, ahead of his final bowl game, Silvers signed with the Stabler Sports agency, which leveraged connections within Alabama's football community to represent him.[24]College statistics
During his college career at Troy University, Brandon Silvers primarily excelled as a pocket passer, accumulating 10,684 passing yards over 48 games with a 64.4% completion rate, 71 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions.[2] His passing efficiency, measured by NCAA quarterback rating, averaged 136.3 across his four seasons, reflecting consistent performance above Sun Belt Conference benchmarks, where league-wide passer ratings hovered around 125-130 during that period.[25] The following table summarizes Silvers' year-by-year passing statistics:| Year | Games | Completions/Attempts | Completion % | Yards | TDs | INTs | Passer Rating |

Professional career
Memphis Express
Brandon Silvers signed with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) in January 2019 after being selected in the league's quarterback draft.[29] As an undrafted free agent following his college career at Troy University, he began the season as the third-string quarterback behind Christian Hackenberg and Zach Mettenberger.[30] Silvers appeared in five games, primarily in relief roles early on, including brief stints in the season opener against the Birmingham Iron where he threw an interception, and a Week 6 relief appearance against the Salt Lake Stallions (23/37 for 242 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception).[31][32] Silvers earned his first two professional starts in Weeks 7 and 8, helping the Express secure one of their two victories in a 2-6 season. In Week 7 against the Birmingham Iron on March 24, he started and threw for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24-of-35 passing, leading a comeback from a 16-point deficit to a 31-25 overtime win in the league's first overtime game—despite sharing time with Johnny Manziel.[33][34] In his final start the following week against the Orlando Apollos, Silvers completed 30 of 49 passes for 269 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, but the Express fell 34-31 in a late rally by Orlando.[35][36] Overall, Silvers passed for 799 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions with a 64% completion rate across his appearances, contributing to the team's limited offensive output in a season marked by quarterback instability.[37][38] The AAF suspended operations on April 2, 2019, shortly after the Express's Week 8 loss, effectively releasing all players including Silvers due to the league's financial collapse.[39] Silvers then signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in the NFL.[38]New York Jets
Following his performance with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football (AAF), Brandon Silvers signed with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) on April 10, 2019.[40] This opportunity came shortly after the AAF suspended operations, providing Silvers a chance to transition to the NFL based on his recent professional experience.[41] Silvers spent less than a month with the Jets, participating in offseason workouts and practices before being waived on May 6, 2019.[42] During this brief period, he gained exposure to NFL coaching staff and facilities but did not appear in any preseason or regular-season games.[43] His time with the team highlighted the pathway for spring league players to NFL developmental roles, though he was released prior to training camp.[44]Seattle Dragons
Brandon Silvers was assigned to the Seattle Dragons as their primary quarterback on October 15, 2019, during the XFL's initial player allocation ahead of the 2020 season.[7] He entered training camp as the frontrunner for the starting role under head coach Jim Zorn, leveraging his experience from prior professional stints to secure the position.[29] Silvers started the Dragons' first four games, serving as the offensive leader in the league's inaugural season. In the opener on February 8, 2020, against the DC Defenders, he completed 21 of 40 passes for 217 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, including a pick-six, in a 31-19 loss at CenturyLink Field.[45] The following week, on February 15 versus the Tampa Bay Vipers, Silvers went 7 of 18 for 91 yards, one touchdown—including a 68-yard strike to Keenan Reynolds—and one interception, helping orchestrate a comeback for a 17-9 victory that marked Seattle's lone win.[46] His performance improved in Week 3 on February 22 at the Dallas Renegades, where he threw for 204 yards on 21 of 34 completions with two touchdowns and one interception in a 24-12 defeat.[47] However, struggles mounted in Week 4 on February 29 at the St. Louis BattleHawks, as Silvers managed just 4 of 10 passes for 27 yards before being replaced by backup B.J. Daniels midway through the second quarter during a 23-16 loss.[48] Over his four appearances, Silvers completed 53 of 102 passes for 539 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions, achieving a 70.7 passer rating while adding 16 rushing yards on six carries.[49] His tenure highlighted the Dragons' reliance on a run-heavy scheme and young receiving corps, including Austin Proehl, who caught three of Silvers' touchdowns early in the season. The team finished with a 1-4 record after a narrow 20-19 win over the Houston Roughnecks in Week 5 without Silvers under center.[50] The XFL suspended operations indefinitely on March 20, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cutting short the Dragons' debut campaign and preventing any playoff contention.[50]The Spring League
Following the suspension of the 2020 XFL season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brandon Silvers joined The Spring League for its 2021 developmental season as a means to continue his professional career and maintain visibility for future opportunities.[51][52] Silvers signed with the Conquerors team in May 2021 and served as a quarterback during the league's training camp and showcase games, which emphasized skill refinement for aspiring professional players rather than a traditional full regular season.[51][52] The Spring League operated as a scouting event with eight teams divided into North and South divisions, featuring exhibition matches broadcast on Fox networks to highlight talent for NFL and other pro leagues.[53] In his appearances for the Conquerors, who finished 4-2 in the North Division, Silvers recorded 685 passing yards, ranking third in the league, and contributed key plays in relief roles to aid team efforts.[54] For instance, in a Week 4 matchup against the Linemen, he entered in the third quarter, throwing touchdown passes to Cole Spieker and Tavonn Salters, as well as to tight end Seybert, to fuel a comeback attempt despite the 33-30 loss.[55] This participation allowed Silvers to refine his quarterbacking under offensive coordinator A.J. Smith, keeping him active in the competitive spring football landscape.[52]Houston Roughnecks
Brandon Silvers was assigned to the Houston Roughnecks as part of the XFL's player allocation process on November 18, 2022.[56] He entered the 2023 season as the team's starting quarterback, leading the Roughnecks to a strong 4-0 start with efficient playmaking and key touchdown passes in victories over teams like the Orlando Guardians and San Antonio Brahmas.[57][58] Silvers' early contributions helped establish Houston's league-leading defense and balanced offense, as the team averaged 26 points per game while allowing just 13.[58] Over eight starts, Silvers completed 156 of 262 passes for 1,551 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while the Roughnecks went 6-2 in those games.[49] His performance included standout moments such as three touchdown passes in a 44-16 rout of the Guardians in Week 4 and a game-clinching drive in Week 8's 17-15 win over the Brahmas that secured Houston's playoff berth.[57][59] However, Silvers struggled in a Week 6 loss to the D.C. Defenders, where he was relieved at halftime by backup Cole McDonald after completing just 6 of 14 passes for 56 yards and an interception.[60] McDonald started in Silvers' place for Week 7 against the Battlehawks, but Silvers regained the starting role for the final three regular-season games, helping Houston finish 7-3 and claim the South Division title.[61] Despite his efforts in clinching the playoffs, Silvers did not start the divisional championship game against the Arlington Renegades on April 29, 2023, where McDonald went 9-for-25 for 82 yards in a 26-11 loss that ended Houston's season.[62][63]St. Louis Battlehawks
Brandon Silvers signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League (UFL) on February 14, 2024, following his stint with the Houston Roughnecks in the preceding XFL season.[64] His prior experience with the Roughnecks provided a seamless transition to the UFL's structure and gameplay.[52] During the 2024 UFL season, Silvers served primarily as the backup quarterback to A.J. McCarron, appearing on the depth chart but not recording any regular-season statistics.[65][13] He contributed to the team's quarterback room by providing reliable depth and practice support throughout the campaign.[65] Silvers was re-signed by the Battlehawks on April 22, 2025, again as the third-string quarterback behind McCarron and Manny Wilkins.[52] In the 2025 regular season, he saw limited action in two games, completing 13 of 18 passes for 205 yards and 1 touchdown with no interceptions, achieving a 72.2% completion rate.[13] These appearances underscored his role in maintaining quarterback depth amid injuries and rotations.[13] Silvers entered the postseason with further opportunities, going 6-for-10 for 81 yards and 1 touchdown in the XFL Conference Championship game against the DC Defenders on June 8, 2025.[13] However, he sustained a shoulder injury—a fractured right scapula—during the Battlehawks' 36-18 loss, sidelining him for an estimated 6-8 weeks.[66][67] Despite the injury, his brief but effective play in relief highlighted his value as a veteran reserve on the roster.[66]Professional statistics
Brandon Silvers accumulated 302 completions on 507 attempts for 3,094 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in his professional career spanning the Alliance of American Football (AAF), XFL, and United Football League (UFL) from 2019 to 2025.[49] His rushing totals include 25 carries for 30 yards, with no rushing touchdowns recorded.[49] Silvers also posted a career total of 8 fumbles, including 2 in the 2025 UFL season (none lost).[13] The following table summarizes his passing statistics by season and league:| Year | League | Team | Games | Completions/Attempts | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |
