Ricardo Chavira
Ricardo Antonio Chavira (born September 1, 1971) is an American actor of Mexican heritage best known for portraying Carlos Solis, the husband of Gabrielle Solis, in the ABC television series Desperate Housewives from 2004 to 2012.[1][2] Born in Austin, Texas, to parents of Mexican origin who had served in the Peace Corps, Chavira was raised in San Antonio and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School before studying theater at the University of California, San Diego.[3][2] His breakthrough came with Desperate Housewives, where his performance as the often volatile yet devoted Carlos earned him multiple nominations for the ALMA Awards, recognizing outstanding Latino achievements in entertainment.[4] Beyond that role, Chavira has appeared in films such as Piranha 3D (2010) and provided the voice for Isaac Clarke in the video game Dead Space 3 (2013), while also portraying Abraham Quintanilla, father of singer Selena, in the Netflix series Selena: The Series (2020).[1][2] In personal matters, Chavira has been married to producer Marcea Dietzel since 2007 and is a vocal supporter of breast cancer research, motivated by the death of his mother, Elizabeth Ries Chavira, from breast and ovarian cancer at age 43.[1] He drew public attention in 2019 by criticizing the 14-day prison sentence given to his Desperate Housewives co-star Felicity Huffman in the college admissions scandal, labeling it an instance of white privilege.[5][6]
