Steve Rider
![Steve Rider at the 2017 BTCC Knockhill event]float-rightStephen Rider (born 28 April 1950) is a retired British sports broadcaster who anchored major television programmes across BBC, ITV, and Sky over a career spanning nearly five decades.[1][2] Rider began his broadcasting journey in 1977 at Anglia Television before joining BBC Sport in 1985, where he hosted flagship shows including Grandstand from 1991, Sportsnight, and coverage of 12 Summer and Winter Olympic Games, as well as over 50 major golf championships.[1][2] In 2006, he moved to ITV, presenting Formula One coverage until 2008—for which he won a BAFTA for the Brazilian Grand Prix—and later became the lead anchor for the British Touring Car Championship from 2009 until his retirement.[1][3] His work also encompassed football, rugby, and interviews with motorsport legends on Sky's Legends series.[2] A three-time BAFTA winner and twice named sports presenter of the year, Rider announced his retirement in May 2025, concluding with an emotional final broadcast of the BTCC at Oulton Park in June, after which he received tributes from Formula 1 figures including Jenson Button and Damon Hill.[2][3][4]
