In dynamic settings, forward-looking agents can shade revelations in early periods to influence future contract terms, undermining truth-telling unless mechanisms incorporate history-dependent punishments.[45] Bayesian implementation addresses this by focusing on interim incentive compatibility, where truth-telling is optimal given the agent's beliefs about others' types, but it requires stronger conditions than dominant-strategy implementation, such as monotonicity of allocation rules.[45] These issues tie briefly to screening mechanisms for adverse selection, where elicitation helps distinguish types without direct observation.Applications of information elicitation are evident in procurement auctions, where contracts are structured to reveal sellers' private costs through competitive bidding.
