Margo Price
Margo Rae Price (born April 15, 1983) is an American country singer-songwriter, producer, and author based in Nashville, Tennessee.[1] Raised in Aledo, Illinois, she moved to Nashville in 2003 after dropping out of college, where she met her husband and collaborator, musician Jeremy Ivey, and initially fronted the band Buffalo Clover before pursuing a solo career.[2] Price achieved breakthrough success with her debut solo album, Midwest Farmer's Daughter (2016), self-funded in part by pawning her wedding ring and released on Jack White's Third Man Records, which debuted in the Billboard country top ten—the first such entry for a solo female artist without major label support—and garnered widespread critical acclaim for its raw depictions of rural hardship, personal loss, and resilience.[3][4] Subsequent albums including All American Made (2017), Strays (2020), and That's How Rumors Get Started (2021) expanded her sound toward rock and psychedelic influences while maintaining themes of autonomy and social observation, earning her a Grammy nomination, appearances on Saturday Night Live, and tours alongside artists such as Chris Stapleton and Willie Nelson.[4][5] In 2024, she released the memoir Hard Headed Woman, reflecting on her life's trials and triumphs.[6]
