Omega SA
Omega SA is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt as a small workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, specializing in precision timepieces and later headquartered in Biel/Bienne after relocating there in 1880.[1][2] A subsidiary of the Swatch Group since the 1980s merger that formed the conglomerate, Omega gained its name from the revolutionary 19-ligne calibre introduced in 1894, which set standards for reliability and accuracy in watchmaking.[2][3] The company achieved pioneering status in sports timing as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games beginning in 1932, introducing innovations that enhanced event precision across decades of global competitions.[4] Its Speedmaster Professional chronograph, certified by NASA in 1965, became the first watch worn during a manned lunar landing on Apollo 11 in 1969 and all subsequent Moon missions, cementing Omega's legacy in space exploration.[2] Since 1995, Omega has partnered with the James Bond film franchise, featuring Seamaster models as the spy's signature timepiece, blending horological excellence with cultural iconography.[5] Notable ongoing advancements include the Co-Axial escapement debuted in 1999 and the Master Chronometer certification launched in 2015, ensuring superior resistance to magnetism and real-world performance verified by METAS testing.[2]
