Rula Lenska
Rula Lenska (born Róża Maria Leopoldyna Łubieńska, 30 September 1947) is a British actress of Polish noble descent whose family fled wartime Poland and settled in England.[1][2] Born in Diddington, Huntingdonshire, to parents from an aristocratic lineage that once owned a castle and estate in Kazimierza Wielka, she trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began her career in 1965, primarily in British theatre and television.[1][2] Lenska achieved prominence with her role as Nancy "Q" Cunard de Longchamps in the 1976 BBC television series Rock Follies, a satirical portrayal of an all-female rock band that earned critical acclaim and BAFTA recognition for the production.[3] Subsequent appearances include the Doctor Who serial "Resurrection of the Daleks" as Shura/Styles, and recurring roles in soaps such as Coronation Street as Claudia Colby and EastEnders.[4] In the United States, she gained unexpected recognition through a series of late-1970s Alberto VO5 hair spray advertisements, in which she introduced herself by name, prompting widespread curiosity about her identity among American audiences unfamiliar with her prior work.[5] Her stage credits encompass productions like The Vagina Monologues, Calendar Girls, and works by Shakespeare and Noël Coward, reflecting a versatile career spanning over five decades.[6]
