Bozzuto Group's community and philanthropic efforts are primarily coordinated through Rise by Bozzuto, a corporate social responsibility program launched in fall 2019 that engages over 2,800 employees and more than 100,000 residents across its properties.^[70] The program emphasizes three employee-selected pillars: addressing homelessness and housing challenges, supporting youth development, and promoting social and environmental impact.^[71] ^[70] These initiatives build on 35 years of service activities, including home repairs in 10 markets through partnerships like Rebuilding Together.^[72] ^[71] Under the homelessness and housing pillar, Rise by Bozzuto has organized annual FriendsGiving Back campaigns, donating 27,878 meals and over 100 essential items in fiscal year 2023 to combat poverty via partnerships with 14 local organizations, impacting more than 23,000 lives.^[73] In spring 2025, nearly 500 employees participated in Rebuild Days and cleanups across 19 markets with A Wider Circle, a nonprofit focused on poverty alleviation.^[71] During the early COVID-19 period in April and May 2020, the program raised $50,000 through targeted campaigns, including a virtual 5K event yielding $20,000 for A Wider Circle and $30,000 via GivingTuesday for World Central Kitchen meal distribution.^[70] Youth development efforts include the BYOB School Supply Drive, which distributed nearly 2,000 backpacks filled with supplies to students via collaborations with Boys & Girls Clubs and similar groups; in one recent drive, over 2,200 backpacks reached 66 clubs nationwide.^[73] ^[71] Additionally, 86 summer interns volunteered with local charities, and Community Champions—66 employee leads across 50 communities—coordinate ongoing local projects.^[71] Food insecurity ties into this pillar, with over 200,000 pounds packed at 13 food banks and more than 10,000 cans collected from 180 resident communities.^[71] Social and environmental initiatives feature Earth Day events, such as 2023 outings where 106 associates participated in tree plantings and cleanups, alongside broader sustainability drives.^[73] In fiscal year 2023, the program logged 722 volunteer hours and raised $98,000 for Ukraine relief through World Central Kitchen, including a $25,000 company match.^[73] Since inception, Rise by Bozzuto has seen a 47% rise in employee donation participation and 200% year-over-year engagement growth.^[70] The program received the 2024 #NAAGives Award from the National Apartment Association for CSR excellence, and its leader, Julie Smith, was named March of Dimes Corporate Heroine in 2024 for mobilizing over 3,300 employees in service.^[74] ^[75] Beyond corporate programs, the Bozzuto family has supported education and health, including a $1 million endowment in October 2024 to Hobart and William Smith Colleges for scientific teaching and research, and ongoing philanthropy for Greater Baltimore Medical Center patient care initiatives.^[76] ^[77] In-kind donations, such as construction materials to Community Forklift in 2021, further aid local reuse and affordability efforts.^[78]
