Narayanpet
Narayanpet is a town and the administrative headquarters of Narayanpet district in the Indian state of Telangana, situated approximately 165 km west of the state capital, Hyderabad.[1]
The town is renowned for its handloom silk sarees, characterized by unique checked designs and intricate borders, alongside a tradition of gold jewellery craftsmanship that forms the backbone of its local economy.[2][3]
Historically, the region traces its roots to ancient rule under the Satavahana dynasty from 221 BCE to 218 CE and the Chalukya dynasty from the 5th to 11th centuries CE, with the town's name formalized as Narayanpet in 1890 during the Nizam's era.[3][4]
As of the 2011 census, the district had a population of 566,874, predominantly rural and engaged in agriculture and weaving, reflecting a demographic profile with a slight female majority.[5][6]
