Alex Trebek
George Alexander Trebek (July 22, 1940 – November 8, 2020) was a Canadian-American television host renowned for his 37-season tenure on the syndicated quiz show Jeopardy!, which he led from its 1984 revival until his death, amassing over 8,200 episodes.[1][2] Born in Sudbury, Ontario, to a Ukrainian immigrant father and French-Canadian mother, Trebek graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1961 and launched his broadcasting career at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a staff announcer, later transitioning to U.S. game shows such as High Rollers and Pitfall before securing the Jeopardy! role.[3][4] His poised delivery, dry wit, and command of trivia earned him five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and a Guinness World Record for the most game show episodes hosted by an entertainer.[5][2] In March 2019, Trebek publicly disclosed his stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis, continuing to host amid treatment and raising awareness for the disease until his passing at age 80.[6]
