A pivotal moment came in 2024 when BLITZERS became the first K-pop act to compete on Britain's Got Talent, advancing to the semi-finals with covers of songs like Shawn Mendes' "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back," which highlighted their vocal harmony and stage presence to international audiences.[5][6]In 2025, the group expanded its discography with the debut of their first sub-unit, NPC (comprising Juhan, Sya, and Wooju), which released the self-composed digital single "Creeper" on November 1, marking a fresh creative direction amid ongoing challenges in the competitive K-pop landscape.[7] Member Chris has been on a temporary hiatus since May 2025 for personal reasons, but the group remains active with promotional events and fan engagements.[8] Known for their perseverance as a "nugu" (less mainstream) act, BLITZERS continues to focus on global outreach through tours and digital content, embodying resilience in fourth-generation K-pop.[9]
History
Formation and pre-debut

2021: Debut with Check-In
Blitzers officially debuted as a seven-member boy group under WUZO Entertainment on May 12, 2021, with the release of their first extended play (EP), Check-In. The EP's title track, "Breathe Again," served as the lead single, featuring a rock-influenced sound characterized by electric guitar riffs and anthemic choruses that highlighted the group's dynamic vocals and choreography. The music video for "Breathe Again," uploaded to the group's official YouTube channel on the debut date, amassed views quickly and introduced their concept of a "journey" with fans, symbolized by travel motifs.[14][1]The Check-In EP comprised six tracks blending pop, rock, and ballad elements, including the intro "Blitz (Next Level Remix)," the upbeat B-side "Ocean Blue," and the introspective "Dream Pilot." These songs established the group's versatility early on, with "Ocean Blue" offering a fresh, wave-like melody and "Dream Pilot" providing a soaring, motivational vibe. Produced in collaboration with various Korean composers, the EP emphasized themes of renewal and connection, aligning with the group's name, which represents charging towards the world with dynamic music and dance.[15][11][16]Promotions for Check-In kicked off immediately with the group's first live performance of "Breathe Again" on Mnet's M Countdown on May 13, 2021, followed by appearances on SBS's Inkigayo, MBC's Show! Music Core, and SBS MTV's The Show throughout May and June. These music show stages allowed Blitzers to showcase synchronized dances and live vocals, building momentum as rookies from a smaller agency. The group also engaged fans through online content and teaser releases in the weeks leading up to debut, fostering initial community among their supporters, known as BLEE.[17][18]As newcomers, Check-In achieved modest but notable success, selling over 10,000 copies in its first month, a solid start for an independent act. Media coverage praised the EP's genre-blending approach, with Rolling Stone including Blitzers among the top 10 K-pop debuts of 2021 for their energetic execution and potential in the competitive rookie landscape. Early reviews highlighted the title track's catchiness and the EP's cohesive narrative, positioning the group as promising contributors to fourth-generation K-pop.[19][1]In October 2021, BLITZERS released their second EP, Seat-Belt, on October 6, with the title track "Will Make a Mistake," continuing their thematic exploration of journeys and emotional connections through pop and rock elements.[20]

Following their debut, BLITZERS continued building momentum in early 2022 with the release of their first single album, Bobbin, on January 3, which featured the title track "Bobbin" as an intense rock-influenced song emphasizing the group's dynamic energy.[13] The album marked their first foray into single releases post-debut, achieving modest sales as part of the group's overall 2022 total of 71,497 copies across all outputs.[19] Promotions included music show performances and fan signings, helping to solidify their domestic presence among rookie acts.[21]In February 2022, BLITZERS embarked on their first headlining tour, the U.S. Tour 'Check-in', commencing on February 5 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, California, with subsequent stops in San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Chicago, and New York.[22] The tour, presented by Powerhouse Live, showcased setlists featuring early hits like "Check-In" and "Breathe Again" alongside fan interactions such as high-fives and selfies, drawing international attention and fostering their global fanbase known as BLEE.[23] Later that year, in October, they expanded internationally with the 2022 Europe Tour 'Looking For BLEE', a 12-city run across eight countries starting October 3 in Milan, Italy, including performances in Zurich, Paris, and Berlin, where they incorporated fan signings and on-stage charisma to engage European audiences.[24] These tours represented key milestones in their early international outreach, highlighting their live performance capabilities beyond South Korea.Mid-2022 saw the group's third EP, Win-Dow, released on July 20, with the lead single "Hit the Bass" delivering a high-energy track blending EDM and hip-hop elements to convey themes of breaking barriers.[25] The EP, including tracks like "Gradation" and "Love is New Gravity," sold 53,161 copies in Korea, contributing significantly to their rising profile.[26] The music video for "Hit the Bass" amassed over 10 million views within weeks, signaling growing online traction and international interest.[27] Promotions extended through music programs like Music Bank and fan events, further enhancing fan engagement.[28]BLITZERS received their first major awards recognition in 2022, winning the K-Global Rising Star Award at the K-Global Heart Dream Awards, acknowledging their emerging talent.[29] They also earned the Blooming Star Award at the 2022 Hanteo Music Awards, reflecting their rapid growth among rookie groups.[30]In 2023, the group released their second single album, Macarena, on April 24, featuring the titular upbeat dance track that incorporated Latin influences and playful choreography to attract a broader audience. This release, promoted via encore fan sign events and music shows, helped maintain their momentum, with total 2023 sales reaching 28,540 copies despite a lighter schedule.[13][19] These efforts, combined with lingering promotions from Seat-Belt—their second EP from October 2021, which saw extended fan activities into 2022—underscored BLITZERS' strategy of consistent output and global touring to cultivate a dedicated international fanbase during this formative period.[20]
2024–present: International breakthrough and lineup changes
In May 2024, BLITZERS achieved a significant international milestone by appearing on the 17th series of Britain's Got Talent as the first K-pop group to do so, performing a high-energy cover of Shawn Mendes' "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" during the auditions and advancing to the semi-finals.[5][6] The performance, which featured synchronized choreography and pyrotechnics, garnered widespread praise from judges and viewers, boosting the group's global visibility and contributing to subsequent fanbase expansion.[31]Following their BGT appearance, BLITZERS released their fourth EP, Lunch-Box, on June 19, 2024, with "Superpower" serving as the title track and showcasing their evolving pop sound with upbeat rhythms and empowering lyrics. The EP also included an English version of their 2023 single "Macarena," which received renewed promotions in 2024 to capitalize on international interest.[11] These releases marked a shift toward broader appeal, with "Superpower" highlighting the group's dynamic stage presence through its music video and live performances.Lineup changes impacted the group during this period, beginning with Go_U's departure on January 29, 2024, after a hiatus since April 2023 due to health issues, including restless legs syndrome, as announced by their agency WUZO Entertainment.[3] In May 2025, member Chris entered a temporary hiatus starting May 10, absent from group schedules for personal reasons, further altering the septet to a smaller active lineup.[33]Recent activities in 2025 included the debut of the group's first sub-unit, NPC (comprising Juhan, Sya, and Wooju), with the self-composed digital single "Creeper" on November 1, followed by a guerrilla performance on November 2 in Seoul's Jung-gu district, announced via official channels to engage fans directly amid ongoing challenges.[7][34] No full-group comebacks were confirmed by November 2025, with member Chris publicly discussing financial difficulties hindering new releases in a September vlog.[35]

Artistry
Musical style
Blitzers' musical style is primarily characterized by rock-influenced K-pop, incorporating elements of hip-hop, energetic pop, and punk aesthetics to create a dynamic and rebellious sound. Their debut track "Breathe Again" exemplifies this foundation, blending aggressive rap verses with punk-infused guitar riffs and driving rhythms that set them apart in the fourth-generation K-pop landscape.[46][47] This rock-oriented approach draws from Western influences while maintaining K-pop's polished production, emphasizing high-energy beats and vocal intensity to evoke a sense of youthful defiance.[48]Over time, Blitzers' sound has evolved to incorporate more diverse hip-hop and electronic elements, expanding beyond their initial rock-punk base. In tracks like "Hit the Bass," the group shifts toward synth-heavy production with pulsating basslines and rhythmic rap flows, showcasing a broader palette that includes trap-inspired beats and futuristic synths while retaining core rock guitar accents.[46] This progression is evident in their collaborations with producers such as Glody, HOYAS, and moonc for "Hit the Bass," who contribute to its layered electronic textures, and earlier works like "Breathe Again," produced by teams including BARD, NEUL, and KONQUEST, which prioritize raw guitar-driven energy.[49][50] The inclusion of shout-raps and strong, anthemic beats further defines their production traits, creating immersive tracks that balance aggression with catchiness. In 2025, their sub-unit NPC (Juhan, Sya, and Wooju) debuted with the digital single "Creeper" on November 1, introducing hyper-pop elements within a hip-hop framework, further diversifying their creative output.[51][21]Critics and fans have praised Blitzers for their leadership in revitalizing the rock sub-genre within K-pop, noting how their consistent embrace of guitar riffs and rock structures helps them stand out amid more synth-pop dominant peers.[21][48] This stylistic commitment has been credited with broadening K-pop's appeal to rock enthusiasts and older audiences, positioning the group as innovative contributors to genre fusion.[52]
Group name and concepts
The name "BLITZERS" derives from the concept of a "blitz," representing a lightning-fast charge toward the world through music and dynamic dance moves.[8] This origin symbolizes the group's aspiration to deliver energetic performances that captivate global audiences with speed and intensity.[53]BLITZERS' concepts revolve around a vibrant, rebellious "bad boy" image that emphasizes youthful rebellion and power, often portrayed through high-energy visuals and themes of defiance in their music videos.[54] These elements highlight a sense of fun yet alarming intensity, blending youthful vitality with bold, edgy aesthetics to convey empowerment and rapid advancement.[48]Members draw influences from iconic figures and genres for their choreography and style. Jinhwa has cited Michael Jackson as a major inspiration, aiming to integrate elements of his dance legacy into K-pop expressions.[55] Member Wooju has expressed being positively influenced by covering songs from third-generation K-pop acts such as H.O.T., while the group incorporates Western rock influences to infuse their choreography with raw, powerful movements.[46][52]The official fandom name is BLEE, an abbreviation for "BLITZERS' GLEE," reflecting the joy and support fans bring to the group's energetic pursuits.[8][56]
