Jinho
Jo Jin-ho, known professionally as Jinho, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and musical theatre actor best known as the main vocalist and eldest member of the K-pop boy group PENTAGON.[1][2] Jinho began his career in 2010 under the stage name Jino as a member of the SM Entertainment ballad project group SM The Ballad, participating in promotions for their songs "Miss You" and "Hot Times."[3] After leaving SM, he joined Cube Entertainment as a trainee and debuted with PENTAGON on October 10, 2016, with the single "Adore" from their self-titled EP, followed immediately by the track "Gorilla."[4] As PENTAGON's main vocalist, he contributed to the group's notable releases, including the hits "Shine," "Fever" (retitled "Frog" in Korean), and "Daisy."[2] In May 2020, Jinho enlisted for mandatory military service, serving until his discharge on November 14, 2021.[5] Upon returning, he resumed activities with PENTAGON and pursued solo endeavors, releasing his debut mini album CHO:RD in September 2024, which featured self-composed tracks.[1] Jinho has also built a reputation in musical theatre since 2013, with roles in productions such as Summer Snow, and in 2025, he starred as Peter in Bare: The Musical, which opened on June 3.[2] His exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment ended on April 14, 2025, after nine years, leading to his signing with S27M Entertainment on May 19, 2025, where he continues as a singer-songwriter and reconnects with former PENTAGON member Wooseok. In August 2025, Jinho released his second mini album Luv 2 Much under S27M Entertainment, followed by the announcement of his solo concert Winter Bloom scheduled for December 24, 2025.[1][2][6][7]Early life and education
Family and childhood
Jo Jin-ho was born on April 17, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and was raised in Daejeon. He grew up in a family of five, consisting of his parents and two younger sisters born in 1996 and 1998. Jinho is Catholic and received the baptismal name Pio during his childhood.[8] From an early age, Jinho showed a strong interest in music and singing. In the third grade of elementary school, he won first place in a local children's song competition by performing "Baby Goat" (아기 염소), an experience that ignited his aspiration to become a professional singer. He was recognized as a top student during elementary school and often served as class monitor, demonstrating leadership qualities. By sixth grade, Jinho was further inspired by Brian McKnight's ballad "One Last Cry," solidifying his determination to pursue music despite initial family reservations. He frequently performed at school festivals, covering songs such as Lee Seung-gi's "Delete" in fifth grade and Buzz's "Thorn" in sixth grade.[9] Jinho's childhood also involved diverse extracurricular activities to build well-rounded skills. In elementary school, he participated in a samulnori (traditional Korean percussion) club. During middle school, he joined basketball and magic clubs, while in high school, he engaged in table tennis and a school band. Additionally, he attended multiple academies for piano, calligraphy, swimming, taekwondo, hapkido, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts, reflecting a disciplined and active upbringing. During his first year of middle school, Jinho briefly lived in Qingdao, China, with his family due to his father's work, before returning to South Korea by his third year to focus on singing; this experience enabled him to learn conversational Chinese.[9][10]Schooling and pre-debut training
Jinho was born Jo Jin-ho on April 17, 1992, in Bucheon, South Korea, but moved to Daejeon at the age of seven, where he spent much of his childhood. He attended Daejeon Jeonglim Elementary School during his early years.[11] Later, he attended Daejeon Jeonglim Middle School.) Jinho graduated from Cheongnyang High School, though his attendance was limited due to his intensifying trainee schedule. He later applied to the practical music program at Seoul Institute of the Arts but was unsuccessful after performing "A Song for You" and "Expectation."[12][9] In 2008, while still in high school, Jinho won first place in SM Entertainment's Everysing Contest, which secured him a trainee position at the agency; EXO member Xiumin placed second in the same competition.[13] He underwent rigorous training at SM for six years, focusing on vocals and performance skills as one of the agency's promising talents.[14] During this period, in November 2010, he made his pre-debut appearance as Jino in the ballad project group SM The Ballad, releasing the album Miss You alongside members Kyuhyun, Jay, and Jonghyun.[15] After leaving SM Entertainment in 2015, Jinho briefly worked as a vocal coach at Modern K Academy, where he honed his teaching skills while continuing to pursue his music career.[10] Encouraged by the academy, he auditioned for Cube Entertainment later that year and joined as a trainee, accumulating a total of eight years of pre-debut training before his official debut.[10] This extended preparation emphasized his vocal prowess, which became a hallmark of his role as Pentagon's main vocalist.[14]Career
2008–2014: Everysing win and SM Entertainment
In 2008, at the age of 16, Jinho won first place in SM Entertainment's Everysing Contest, a nationwide singing competition that selected promising vocal talents, with EXO member Xiumin placing second. This achievement granted him entry into SM Entertainment as a trainee, marking the start of his formal preparation in the K-pop industry.[10] Over the next two years, Jinho underwent intensive vocal and performance training at SM Academy, focusing on ballad singing and stage presence. In November 2010, he debuted under the stage name Jino as the youngest member of the agency's project ballad group SM the Ballad, alongside established artists Kyuhyun of Super Junior, Jonghyun of SHINee, and Jay of TRAX. The group released their debut mini-album Miss You on November 29, featuring five tracks centered on emotional ballads, with the lead single "Miss You" highlighting their harmonious vocals. Jino contributed prominently to the album's recordings, including the title track and "A Beautiful Pain," receiving praise for his stable tone and emotional delivery during promotions on shows like SBS's Inkigayo.[16][17] Following the promotions for Miss You, which concluded in early 2011, Jino did not participate in SM the Ballad's second album due to lineup changes and returned to trainee activities at SM Entertainment. From 2011 to 2014, he continued rigorous training, reportedly for a total of about eight years overall, refining his skills while occasionally assisting as a vocal coach for junior trainees. During this period, he remained out of the public eye, focusing on personal development amid SM's competitive environment.[10]2015–2020: Pentagon debut and early group activities
In 2015, Jinho departed from SM Entertainment after several years as a trainee and brief debut with S.M. THE BALLAD, transitioning to a role as a vocal coach at Modern K Academy.[3] This period marked a pivotal shift, as the academy encouraged him to audition for Cube Entertainment, where he successfully joined as a trainee in early 2016.[3] Jinho participated in Cube's survival program Pentagon Maker, which aired from April to June 2016 and documented the formation of the boy group PENTAGON through interactive challenges and fan voting. Selected as one of the final 10 members for his strong vocal abilities, he debuted with the group on October 10, 2016, under the mini-album PENTAGON, featuring the lead single "Gorilla."[4] As the eldest member and main vocalist, Jinho contributed to the group's emphasis on self-production, handling high notes and harmonies that highlighted PENTAGON's versatile sound blending hip-hop, EDM, and pop elements.[4] Following their debut, PENTAGON released a series of mini-albums that established their reputation for frequent comebacks and creative involvement, including Five Senses (November 2016) with "Very Very Very," Demo_02 (November 2017) featuring "Runaway," and Positive (September 2018) led by "Shine." These releases showcased the group's growth, with Jinho's emotive vocals central to tracks exploring themes of youth and self-discovery, helping PENTAGON build a dedicated fanbase known as UNIVERSE. By 2020, the group had issued over a dozen projects, though challenges like member departures and military enlistments began to influence their trajectory.[18][19] Alongside group promotions, Jinho pursued musical theater, debuting in the industry post-PENTAGON with the role of Dean Hyde in All Shook Up from late 2017 to 2018, where his performance alongside B.A.P's Daehyun earned praise for blending rock-infused vocals with dramatic expression. He continued with roles such as Raoul in The Man in the Iron Mask (2018) and appearances in The Goddess Is Watching (2019–2020), allowing him to expand his artistry while maintaining PENTAGON commitments.[20]2021–2024: Post-military solo projects, Phantom Singer, and Crezl
Following his discharge from mandatory military service on November 14, 2021, Jinho resumed activities with Pentagon, contributing vocals to the group's January 2022 mini album Feelin' Like and subsequent promotions, including the Pentatour in Asia concert series later that year.[21] In parallel, he expanded his solo endeavors as a vocal coach, launching his first online vocal lesson course titled Idol Secret Book for a Shining Dream through the educational platform Class 101 in July 2022; this marked the debut of such a program by an active idol, focusing on accessible techniques for aspiring singers and drawing from his experience training Cube Entertainment labelmates like (G)I-DLE.[22] In early 2023, Jinho ventured into crossover vocal music by competing on JTBC's Phantom Singer 4, a program seeking male quartets for classical and musical theater performances. As the first idol to reach the finals, he formed the quartet Crezl with fellow contestants Lim Kyu-hyung (tenor), Kim Su-in (baritone), and Lee Seung-min (bass), blending pop, rock, and traditional elements in their arrangements.[23] Crezl placed third in the June 2023 finale, securing an official debut under the show's framework, with their initial performances covering tracks like Stevie Wonder's "Faith" and showcasing Jinho's tenor range in harmony-driven sets.[24] The group signed with Chxxta Company (formerly Cheetah Company) in November 2023, enabling further promotions including a debut fanmeeting Santa CREZL Is Coming To Town that December.[24] Crezl's activities continued into 2024 with the release of their first mini album CRE:㘉 on April 11, featuring original tracks that fused vocal quartet styles with modern pop influences, led by the single "Pian-wha (Forbidden Love)." Jinho balanced these commitments with Pentagon's ongoing projects while preparing his solo career milestone. On September 19, 2024, he made his solo debut with the mini album CHO:RD, a five-track collection emphasizing emotional ballads and rock elements, with double title tracks "Goodbye With You" (a heartfelt breakup narrative co-written by Jinho) and "Teddy Bear" (a comforting acoustic piece).[25] The album highlighted his songwriting and vocal versatility, supported by fan concerts and CHO:RD tours in Japan that October.[26]2025–present: Departure from Cube Entertainment and independent solo career
On April 15, 2025, Cube Entertainment announced that Jinho's exclusive contract had ended the previous day after nine years with the agency, marking the departure of the seventh Pentagon member from the label.[1] The agency expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him success in future endeavors, while Jinho shared a message reassuring fans of his ongoing commitment to music and promising new projects.[27] In May 2025, Jinho signed an exclusive contract with S27M Entertainment, a label known for supporting singer-songwriters and musical talents such as Na Yoon-kwon and VIXX's Ken.[2] S27M stated their intent to back his activities across music, theater, and other fields, positioning him as a key artist in their roster.[28] This move allowed Jinho to pursue a more focused solo path, building on his prior individual releases and stage work. Under S27M, Jinho launched his solo career with the KiTproject, an innovative album series emphasizing physical and digital integration. His second mini-album, Luv 2 Much, was released exclusively in KiT album format on August 14, 2025, featuring rock-inspired tracks that explored themes of love and personal growth.[6] In interviews, Jinho highlighted his hands-on involvement in songwriting and production, aiming to craft narratives that resonated with fans through a blend of emotional depth and energetic performances.[29] To celebrate the album, Jinho held his first fan concert under the new label, 2025 JINHO FAN CONCERT [LUV 2 MUCH], on August 29, 2025, at KT&G Sangsangmadang Theater in Seoul.[30] The event showcased self-composed songs from the album alongside fan interactions, drawing strong attendance and positive reviews for his vocal prowess and stage presence.[31] Behind-the-scenes content released afterward further engaged supporters, emphasizing his creative process.[32] As of November 2025, Jinho continues to balance solo music promotions with musical theater commitments, including the lead role of Peter in Bare the Musical, which opened on June 3.[33] S27M has indicated plans for expanded solo endeavors, including potential international outreach, though specific details remain forthcoming. In November 2025, Jinho announced his solo concert Winter Bloom scheduled for December 24, 2025, at Rolling Hall in Seoul.[7]Personal life
Military service
Lee Jin-ho, known professionally as Jinho, enlisted in the Republic of Korea Army as an active-duty soldier on May 11, 2020, marking him as the first member of Pentagon to begin mandatory military service.[34] During his term, he was assigned to the Army's ceremonial color guard unit, where he participated in official military parades and events.[35] Jinho completed his 18-month service and was honorably discharged on November 14, 2021, alongside fellow Cube Entertainment artists Yook Sungjae and Hyunsik from BTOB.[36] Following his discharge, he resumed group activities with Pentagon and pursued solo endeavors.[37]Public image and interests
Jinho is widely regarded as one of the most vocally talented members of PENTAGON, often praised for his stable and emotive singing style that has earned him recognition both within the K-pop industry and in crossover vocal competitions.[23] His participation in JTBC's Phantom Singer 4 in 2023 marked a significant milestone, as he became the first idol to reach the finals, where he was commended for his vocal prowess, leadership, and ability to blend pop with traditional Korean elements in performances like a rearrangement of IU's "Winter Sleep."[23] Fans and viewers highlighted his dedication to performing, noting how his experience as a main vocalist translated into collaborative harmony and emotional depth, enhancing his image as a versatile artist beyond idol music.[23] Following his mandatory military service from May 2020 to November 2021, Jinho returned with a renewed appreciation for group promotions, stating that the time away made him realize their preciousness and motivated him to exert greater effort in activities.[38] This period solidified his public persona as the responsible "eldest hyung" of PENTAGON, someone who enjoys communicating with others and mentoring, particularly in vocal training, as he takes pleasure in teaching singing and observing personal growth in those around him.[39] In recent years, his involvement in musical theater, such as Bare in 2025, has further broadened his image as a boundary-pushing performer; an on-stage kiss with co-star Yoon Seung-woo went viral, drawing positive acclaim for showcasing his commitment to authentic roles and boosting the production's visibility without controversy.[40] His departure from Cube Entertainment in April 2025 after nine years was met with supportive fan responses, with the agency thanking supporters for their enduring love and requesting continued encouragement for his independent career.[1] Jinho's personal interests reflect his musical passion and eclectic tastes. He is an avid music enthusiast, citing influences like Brian McKnight's "One Last Cry" as his favorite song to perform, Oasis tracks such as "Champagne Supernova," and contemporary artists including Harry Styles, Post Malone, and Charlie Puth for their engaging performances and audience interaction.[41][42] He particularly enjoys loud, upbeat tracks like LMFAO's "Shots" for parties and has expressed a fondness for animation, which inspired the refreshing, story-driven vibe of songs on his 2024 solo mini-album CHO:RD, such as "Dear Precious One, Our Shimmering Days."[42][26] Additionally, he values family time, preferring home-cooked meals from his parents amid his busy schedule, and lives by the philosophy of "do not live with regrets," driving his motivation to create and perform for himself and his supporters.[41]Discography

His stage presence has evolved from high-energy K-pop performances to more intimate, acoustic sets in solo shows, often featuring self-arranged covers and original compositions. Due to his military enlistment on May 11, 2020, Jinho did not participate in subsequent Pentagon events, such as the online "We L:ve" concert on August 22, 2020, or later fan meetings. Following his discharge on November 14, 2021, he rejoined the group for fan concerts, including the 2023 fan concert in Japan. He also participated in the group's 2023 concert "Summer Vacation 'PADO'" in Yokohama. Post-enlistment, Jinho expanded his solo career with a series of "Magazine Ho" mini live concerts, which originated from his monthly cover song project launched in 2017. These intimate performances allowed him to perform reinterpreted Western and Korean tracks with piano accompaniment, emphasizing emotional delivery over choreography. His second solo concert, "Mini Live Magazine Ho Vol.2 – Ready Ho," took place on January 19, 2019, at Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul's Gangnam district, featuring 2018 covers like "How Long" by Charlie Puth and collaborations with group members.[71] The third installment, "Mini Live Magazine Ho Vol.3 – Off Stage," occurred over two dates on January 10–11, 2020, at Nodeul Live House in Seoul, with an additional show added due to demand; it included fan-favorite covers such as "Gorilla" by Bruno Mars, performed alongside Pentagon's Hui. After military service, Jinho resumed solo activities, including the "2024 Jinho Fan-Con [CHO:RD]" on September 10 at Zepp Haneda in Tokyo, Japan, blending covers and new material for an international audience. In 2025, Jinho held two notable solo events. The "Magazine Ho Panorama" concert on April 13 at Songhae Art Hall in Seoul revisited classic covers from his project, including emotional renditions of ballads like Lee Moon-se's works, attracting fans with its panoramic setlist spanning 14 tracks. Later that year, the "2025 Jinho Fan Concert [Luv 2 Much]" on August 29 at KT&G Sangsangmadang Hongdae Live Hall in Seoul celebrated his first mini-album release, featuring self-composed songs and interactive segments; the event sold out quickly and was praised for Jinho's charismatic stage interaction.[72][31] On November 14, 2025, Jinho announced his solo concert "Winter Bloom," scheduled for December 24, 2025, in Seoul.[7] Additionally, as a tenor in the vocal quartet CREZL—formed after winning the fourth season of "Phantom Singer" in 2023—Jinho has performed in the group's theatrical-style concerts. Jinho has garnered recognition for his vocal talents and performances through group achievements with PENTAGON and individual participations in competitive singing programs. As a main vocalist in PENTAGON, he contributed to several early rookie accolades and later music show victories, highlighting the group's growing prominence in the K-pop industry. His standout individual performance came in vocal competitions, where he demonstrated his range and stage presence beyond idol music. In 2017, shortly after PENTAGON's debut, the group received the New Korean Wave Rookie Award at the 1st Soribada Best K-Music Awards, acknowledging their innovative self-produced tracks and fresh appeal.[73] They also secured the New Star Award at the 2017 Asia Model Awards, marking one of their initial honors for emerging talent.[74] PENTAGON achieved their breakthrough music show wins during periods of Jinho's activity with the group. In October 2020, during Jinho's mandatory military service, the group claimed their first-ever victory on SBS MTV's The Show with "Daisy," a poignant ballad that resonated widely after four years of consistent effort.[75] Following Jinho's return from military service, PENTAGON earned another win on KBS2's Music Bank in February 2022 for "Feelin' Like," an upbeat track from their mini-album In:vite U, celebrating their evolving sound and fan support.[76] Jinho's solo performance prowess shone in 2023 when he competed on JTBC's Phantom Singer 4, a prestigious crossover vocal quartet competition. As the first idol to reach the finals, he formed the group CREZL with fellow contestants Lim Kyu-hyung, Kim Su-in, and Lee Chan-hyuk, ultimately securing third place and launching CREZL's official debut as a vocal ensemble.[77] The following table summarizes Jinho's key music and performance awards:| Year | Award/Ceremony | Category/Work | Result | Ref. |
