Runkeeper
Runkeeper is a GPS fitness-tracking application for mobile devices, primarily used for monitoring running activities by recording distance, pace, calories expended, and routes traversed.[1] Launched in 2008 by FitnessKeeper, Inc., it was among the first apps to leverage smartphone GPS for real-time workout data and audio feedback, expanding to support various activities including walking, cycling, and hiking.[2]
Founded by Jason Jacobs, a fitness enthusiast seeking a personal solution for activity logging, the app rapidly gained users through its intuitive interface and social integration features, securing venture funding including a $10 million Series B round in 2011.[3] In February 2016, ASICS Corporation acquired FitnessKeeper for an undisclosed sum, rebranding the service as ASICS Runkeeper to enhance its digital offerings with proprietary training plans, guided workouts, and advanced analytics.[4][5] The acquisition positioned Runkeeper within a broader ecosystem combining app-based tracking with ASICS's sportswear and footwear products.[6]
