Alpha Phi Delta
Alpha Phi Delta (ΑΦΔ) is a collegiate social fraternity of Italian heritage founded on November 5, 1914, at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, by seven men of Italian descent seeking to promote brotherhood and cultural pride amid exclusion from other Greek organizations.[1][2] Originating from the antecedent group Il Circolo Italiano established in 1913, the fraternity expanded through a 1916 merger with a similar organization at Columbia University, adopting its current name and structure.[3] By constitutional mandate, Alpha Phi Delta remains an all-male entity focused on values such as scholarship, leadership, and service, with a historical emphasis on Italian-American identity.[4] Over its more than century-long history, it has initiated over 23,000 members through approximately 112 chapters and colonies, maintaining around 40 active undergraduate chapters and nearly 30 alumni associations as of recent years.[5][6] The fraternity's symbols, including its crest and badge, reflect its heritage, while its activities center on philanthropy, particularly supporting Italian cultural causes and community service.[7]
