Sharron Angle
Sharron Elaine Angle (born July 26, 1949) is an American conservative politician who served as a Republican member of the Nevada State Assembly representing Washoe County from 1999 to 2005.[1][2] She earned a B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno, and worked as a small business manager and sexual harassment investigator prior to her legislative career.[3] Angle gained national prominence as the Tea Party-backed Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Nevada's 2010 election, where she challenged and nearly unseated five-term incumbent Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, receiving 44.6% of the vote in a race that highlighted voter dissatisfaction with establishment politicians.[4][5] Her campaign emphasized fiscal conservatism, limited government, and Second Amendment rights, drawing significant grassroots support but facing criticism for her unfiltered rhetoric on issues like entitlements and armed resistance to tyranny.[6] Following the narrow defeat, Angle pursued further candidacies, including unsuccessful bids for the U.S. Senate in 2016, the U.S. House in 2018, and the Nevada State Senate in 2024, establishing her as a persistent voice for constitutionalist principles amid repeated establishment opposition.[7]
