Research from 2022 to 2025 has explored AI-driven approaches to refine TLM models, particularly for hardware-software co-design in complex systems, enabling faster exploration of design spaces by automatically adjusting parameters based on simulation feedback. For instance, frameworks like CHIPSIM utilize TLM co-simulation to model deep learning accelerators on heterogeneous chiplet architectures, providing significant speedup over cycle-accurate simulations (reducing runtime from weeks to minutes) while supporting AI workload optimization.[74] Similarly, 3D-CIMlet introduces a thermal-aware co-design framework for heterogeneous in-memory computing chiplets, incorporating ML algorithms to predict and refine performance metrics during early design stages.[75]
Support for heterogeneous systems, such as chiplet-based designs, has seen significant progress through TLM extensions that facilitate multi-die integration and co-simulation.
