Tomorrow X Together
Tomorrow X Together (TXT), stylized in all caps, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2018 by Big Hit Music, now a subsidiary of HYBE Corporation.[1] The group consists of five members: Soobin (leader), Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai.[2] They debuted on March 4, 2019, with the extended play (EP) The Dream Chapter: Star, featuring the lead single "Crown", which marked their entry into the K-pop scene as the second boy band from the label after BTS.[1][3] TXT quickly achieved commercial success with their debut, as The Dream Chapter: Star topped the Billboard World Albums chart—the fastest K-pop album to do so at the time—and peaked at number 140 on the Billboard 200, the highest chart entry for a K-pop act that year.[1] Their early recognition included sweeping rookie awards, such as Best New Artist (Male) at the 34th Golden Disc Awards and Rookie of the Year (Male) at the 2019 Melon Music Awards, establishing them as one of the top debut acts of 2019.[4][5] The group has since released a diverse discography spanning EPs, full-length albums, and Japanese releases, organized into narrative "chapters" like The Dream Chapter, The Chaos Chapter, The Name Chapter, minisode, and The Star Chapter, with their latest releases including the fourth studio album Together in July 2025 and the third Japanese studio album Starkissed in October 2025.[6] Musically, TXT blends genres including pop, R&B, hip-hop, tropical house, and acoustic elements, often exploring themes of youth, friendship, imagination, and emotional growth through storytelling and magical realism in their lyrics and visuals.[7][8] Their innovative concepts, such as dystopian narratives in The Chaos Chapter: Freeze and romantic escapes in The Star Chapter: Sanctuary, have earned critical praise for pushing K-pop boundaries.[9] Commercially, they have amassed a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with The Name Chapter: Temptation in 2023, along with several other top-five entries, and hold the record for the most top-five entries by a K-pop act on the chart with seven as of 2025.[1][7] Globally, TXT has expanded their reach through world tours like the Act: Promise world tour in 2024–2025, collaborations with Western artists such as Jonas Brothers on "Do It Like That" in 2024, and awards like Top Artist at the 2022 Billboard K-Pop Awards. In 2025, all members renewed their contracts with the label, though the group announced a hiatus starting in January to focus on rest and personal time.[10][11] Their fanbase, known as MOA (Moments of Alwaysness), reflects their emphasis on connection and shared dreams, solidifying TXT's position as a leading fourth-generation K-pop group.[2]Background
Name and concept
Tomorrow X Together, commonly abbreviated as TXT, is the official name of the five-member South Korean boy group formed by Big Hit Music, a subsidiary of HYBE Corporation. The name is pronounced "Tomorrow By Together," with the "X" serving as a symbolic representation of "by," emphasizing collaboration and unity. In Korean Hangul, it is written as 투모로우 바이 투게더 (Tumolou Bai Tugeleo), directly transliterating the English phrasing to convey the idea of collective progress.[12][13] The etymology of the name encapsulates the agency's vision of diverse individuals uniting to forge a shared path forward, as articulated by Big Hit Music: the members, each bringing unique charms, come together as one team to grow and envision a brighter tomorrow. This abbreviation TXT not only simplifies the full name for branding but also highlights the multiplicative aspect of their combined efforts in creating impactful music and narratives.[12] At its core, TXT's concept revolves around the multifaceted experiences of youth, delving into themes of dreams, personal growth, emotional connectivity, and the pursuit of aspirations amid modern challenges. Big Hit Music established this foundation to portray the group as storytellers of adolescence, fostering a bond with global fans through relatable tales of hope and solidarity. Positioned as the next-generation boy band succeeding BTS, TXT was designed to lead the fourth wave of K-pop by amplifying voices of contemporary youth and their interconnected journeys.[14][15] The group's initial logo design features the bold, stylized abbreviation "TXT," with the central "X" prominently integrated to symbolize the connective force binding the members' individual talents into a unified whole, aligning with the name's emphasis on togetherness and future-oriented synergy. This minimalist yet dynamic emblem, introduced during pre-debut teasers, underscores TXT's branding as innovative and youthful.[16]Formation and pre-debut activities
Big Hit Entertainment announced the formation of its second boy group, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), on January 10, 2019, positioning it as a counterpart to its flagship act BTS.[17] The agency had been scouting and training potential members since 2017, selecting five individuals through a rigorous audition process that emphasized diverse talents, passion for music, and unique personalities to create a "bright and youthful" ensemble.[18] This process involved global auditions and direct scouting, with the final lineup finalized in late 2018 after evaluating trainees' vocal, dance, and performance skills during monthly assessments.[19] The members' pre-debut training periods varied, reflecting their individual paths to joining Big Hit. Yeonjun, the first member revealed on January 10, 2019, via an introductory film, had trained for four years, highlighting the challenges of prolonged waiting despite his diligence in auditions.[20][21] Soobin and Taehyun each trained for three years, with Soobin submitting an audition tape that initially included incorrect contact details but was successfully followed up by the agency.[22][19] Huening Kai, introduced on January 15, underwent two years and six months of training after auditioning shortly after moving to Korea, while Beomgyu, the last revealed on January 20, trained for two years and noted initial difficulties catching up to the group dynamic.[22][20] The full sequence of member introductions was: Yeonjun (January 10), Soobin (January 13), Huening Kai (January 15), Taehyun (January 17), and Beomgyu (January 20), 2019.[23] During this time, the trainees participated in intensive sessions focused on skill development, with no major public collaborations or survival shows, as Big Hit maintained a low-profile approach for its rookies. Pre-debut promotional activities began immediately after the announcement, with individual member introduction videos released from January 10 to January 20, 2019, each showcasing personal traits and aspirations to build anticipation.[24] A group introduction film titled "What Do You Do?" followed on January 23, presenting the five members—Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai—interacting in everyday scenarios to emphasize their youthful camaraderie.[25] These teasers culminated in early February releases, including concept photos and a "Coming Soon" group teaser, setting the stage for their debut without venturing into full music video previews at that point.[14]History
2019: Debut and The Dream Chapter: Magic
Tomorrow X Together officially debuted on March 4, 2019, with the release of their first extended play, The Dream Chapter: STAR, under Big Hit Entertainment.[26] The following day, on March 5, the group held their debut showcase titled STAR at Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul, where they performed tracks from the EP, including the lead single "Crown," and interacted with fans and media to introduce their concept of youthful dreams and adventures.[20] This event marked their formal entry into the K-pop industry, building anticipation following pre-debut teasers. Throughout the spring and summer of 2019, the group promoted The Dream Chapter: STAR on major music programs such as Mnet's M Countdown, where they made their first stage appearance on March 7, and SBS MTV's The Show, securing their debut music show win on March 19.[27] These performances, combined with regular live streams on V Live—such as dance practices and behind-the-scenes content—helped cultivate their early fanbase, known as MOA, by showcasing their synchronized choreography and charismatic dynamics.[20] On October 21, 2019, Tomorrow X Together released their first studio album, The Dream Chapter: Magic, expanding on the dream-themed narrative with a mix of electro-pop and rock elements.[28] The album's lead single, "9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)," featured an upbeat, escapist vibe inspired by fantasy worlds, accompanied by a music video that depicted the members embarking on a magical train journey.[28] Promotions for the track included stages on shows like Inkigayo and Music Bank, further solidifying their presence in the industry. The Dream Chapter: Magic achieved significant commercial success, debuting at number one on the Gaon Album Chart and selling approximately 124,000 copies in its first week according to Hanteo Chart data, surpassing the sales of their debut EP and establishing the group as a rising force among rookies.[29] The album's strong performance highlighted their growing domestic popularity and set a foundation for international recognition. In recognition of their impactful debut year, Tomorrow X Together received several rookie honors, including Best New Male Artist at the 2019 Melon Music Awards on November 30 and Best New Male Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on December 4.[30][31] These awards underscored their swift ascent, with performances at both ceremonies—featuring medleys of "Run Away" and earlier tracks—further engaging fans and cementing their status as one of 2019's standout new acts.2020: Japanese debut, The Dream Chapter: Eternity, and Minisode 1: Blue Hour
In early 2020, Tomorrow X Together expanded internationally by making their Japanese debut with the single album Magic Hour on January 15, which included Japanese versions of "Crown," "Run Away," and "Angel or Devil."[32] The release marked the group's entry into the Japanese market under Universal Music Japan, building on their growing global fanbase following their 2019 Korean debut.[33] The group navigated the escalating COVID-19 pandemic by shifting to virtual promotions and online events, as in-person activities were restricted. Their planned 2020 TXT Fanlive Dream X Together concert, scheduled for March 7–8 at Blue Square iMarket Hall in Seoul to celebrate their first anniversary, was ultimately cancelled due to health concerns.[32] Instead, TXT focused on digital engagement, including live streams for album teasers and fan interactions on platforms like Weverse, as well as participation in the inaugural virtual KCON:TACT 2020, where they performed sets and held online fan meetings.[34] These adaptations allowed them to maintain momentum amid global lockdowns, emphasizing themes of resilience in their messaging. On May 18, TXT released their second Korean EP, The Dream Chapter: Eternity, through Big Hit Entertainment and Republic Records, just over a year after their debut.[35] The six-track project delved deeper into the group's "dream" narrative, with the lead single "Can't You See Me?" addressing feelings of isolation and misunderstanding among youth, inspired by the psychological impacts of the pandemic.[36] The track's music video, featuring surreal horror elements, garnered attention for its thematic depth, and the EP achieved strong sales, surpassing 181,000 copies in its first week according to Hanteo Chart data.[34] Later that year, on October 26, TXT issued their third EP, Minisode 1: Blue Hour, continuing the "minisode" format as a bridge in their storyline between major chapters.[37] The disco-infused title track "Blue Hour" captured the bittersweet emotions of fleeting youth during sunset, with an English-language version released simultaneously to appeal to international audiences and facilitate global streaming.[38] Promotions remained virtual, including online performances and behind-the-scenes content shared via social media. The EP marked significant milestones, debuting at number 25 on the US Billboard 200—the highest entry for a K-pop act that week—and propelling TXT to number one on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart for the second time that year.[39][40]2021: Still Dreaming, The Chaos Chapter, and Chaotic Wonderland

The album marked the group's expansion in the Japanese market following their 2020 debut single there, debuting at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and selling 86,892 copies in its first week.[33][41] On May 31, Tomorrow X Together transitioned to a new conceptual era with the release of their second extended play, The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, signaling a shift from their "Dream Chapter" narrative to themes of inner turmoil and chaos. The eight-track EP featured the lead single "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)", a collaboration with South Korean R&B singer Seori, who contributed vocals to the chorus and bridge, blending rock and alternative elements in its production. Other notable tracks included "Anti-Romantic" and "Magic", with the EP debuting at number five on the Billboard 200, marking the group's first top-10 entry on the chart and selling 630,563 copies in its first week according to Hanteo Chart.[42][43] The success of The Chaos Chapter: Freeze propelled Tomorrow X Together to new global streaming heights, with "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)" becoming the group's first song to enter the Spotify Global Daily Chart, peaking at number 78 with over 1.1 million daily streams in early June. This milestone highlighted their growing international appeal, as the track amassed more than 300 million total streams on the platform by mid-2025 and contributed to the EP's strong performance across global charts.[44] Later that year, on November 10, the group issued their first Japanese EP, Chaotic Wonderland, adapting tracks from The Chaos Chapter: Freeze for the market. The four-song release included Japanese versions of "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)" and "MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)", alongside the new original track "Ito" and an instrumental interlude. Tomorrow X Together released their fifth mini album, The Name Chapter: Temptation, on January 27, 2023, marking the beginning of their "Name Chapter" series. The EP's lead single, "Sugar Rush Ride," debuted alongside the album and featured an experimental structure with four versions in different languages, including Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and English, to appeal to global audiences. The track, produced by Ryan Jhun with contributions from members Yeonjun and Huening Kai on composition, explored themes of fleeting emotions and temptation through a blend of pop-rock and synth elements.[52] "Sugar Rush Ride" achieved significant success on South Korean music programs, earning the group their first wins on the chart. The song secured its inaugural victory on M Countdown on February 2, 2023, followed by additional triumphs on Music Bank, Show! The lead single, "Chasing That Feeling," was a new wave-inspired track co-written by members Taehyun and Huening Kai, emphasizing perseverance in relationships amid uncertainty. The album included collaborations like "Do It Like That" with Jonas Brothers and "Back for More (TXT ver.)" with Anitta, expanding its crossover appeal. The Name Chapter: Freefall debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, marking the group's second chart-topping release.[54][55] Both The Name Chapter: Temptation and The Name Chapter: Freefall were commercial juggernauts, with combined sales exceeding 5 million copies worldwide by the end of 2023, driven by strong pre-order figures and fan demand that certified each as million-sellers on release day. Temptation sold 1,868,919 copies on its first day according to Hanteo Chart, while Freefall set a personal record with 1.93 million first-day units, contributing to the group's streak of five consecutive million-selling albums. This release marked a return to the "minisode" format following the conclusion of their The Name Chapter series, blending retro synth-pop elements with introspective lyrics. In August 2024, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles launched the exhibit "HYBE: We Believe in Music," running from August 2 through September 15, which showcased artifacts from HYBE Labels artists, including stage costumes, concept photos, and memorabilia from Tomorrow X Together's career highlights such as their debut album and world tours.[61] The display emphasized the group's evolution in K-pop and their contributions to global music innovation.[62] The group continued their musical output with the release of their seventh mini album, The Star Chapter: Sanctuary, on November 4, 2024, inaugurating a new conceptual series focused on themes of protection and celestial wonder.[63] Comprising six tracks, the EP features the lead single "Over the Moon," an upbeat dance-pop song with orchestral elements that debuted atop South Korea's Circle Album Chart and reached number 65 on the Billboard 200. Musical style
Tomorrow X Together's music is primarily rooted in K-pop, incorporating elements of synth-pop and R&B, while drawing influences from hip-hop and rock across their discography.[103] Their sound features polished production with dynamic arrangements that blend melodic hooks and rhythmic grooves, often emphasizing layered vocals and synthesizers to create immersive textures.[104] Key collaborators include Slow Rabbit, who serves as the group's main producer and has shaped much of their output since debut.[105] The group's early work in The Dream Chapter series leaned into dream-pop aesthetics, characterized by ethereal soundscapes, trap hip-hop beats, and alternative R&B influences that evoked youthful fantasy and introspection.[36] This evolved in The Chaos Chapter era toward more chaotic electronic elements, fusing electronic pop with emo rock and hybrid pop-rock structures, as seen in the genre-blending track "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)," which combines raspy punk vocals with cheer-along choruses and indie-leaning production.[106] Later albums in The Name Chapter and The Star Chapter shifted to introspective alt-pop, incorporating brooding R&B, trop-pop grooves, and Latin dance rhythms with prominent guitar riffs and bass lines for a mature, emotionally resonant sound.[103][9] Signature elements of their style include explosive dynamic choruses that build tension through genre fusion, alongside the integration of guitars and heavy beats in later releases to add edge and vitality.[107] This approach allows for versatile sonic experimentation while maintaining a cohesive identity centered on youthful energy and vocal harmony.[108]Lyrical themes
Tomorrow X Together's songwriting frequently centers on the intricacies of youth, encompassing dreams of escape, the turmoil of love, struggles with self-identity, and the conflict between succumbing to temptation and embracing freedom. In their debut era with The Dream Chapter series, lyrics evoke magical realms as metaphors for adolescent aspirations and evasion from societal pressures, as exemplified in tracks like "Crown" and "Blue Hour," where an antlered boy navigates a fantastical world of wonder and isolation.[109] This foundational motif of youthful dreams transitions into more turbulent explorations in The Chaos Chapter, where love's entropy and chaotic realities challenge personal growth, such as in "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)," portraying a frozen emotional standstill amid relational discord.[110] Later chapters, like The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, intensify the push-pull of temptation versus freedom, depicting boys on adulthood's edge who yearn to delay maturity through whimsical, devilish indulgences, as in "Devil by the Window."[111][112] The group's narrative arcs form interconnected stories that span albums, particularly in the Dream series' world-building, where recurring elements like crumbling environments and dual protagonists bridge fantasy to real-world critiques, evolving from innocent magic to societal entropy.[109] This storytelling culminates in The Star Chapter, weaving themes of hopeful reunion and stellar guidance, as in "Sanctuary," which offers emotional refuge amid uncertainty.[113] Emotional depth emerges through contrasting motifs of heartbreak and resilience; for instance, The Name Chapter: FREEFALL captures the vertigo of relational dissolution and self-doubt in "Chasing That Feeling," evoking a sense of irreversible loss, while later works like "Higher Than Heaven" from The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY instill optimism through bonds that transcend challenges.[114] Group members actively contribute to lyric co-writing, infusing authenticity drawn from personal experiences to enhance thematic resonance, as seen in "Happy Fools" from The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, where all five members shaped verses reflecting their growth.[115] Yeonjun, in particular, has penned rap sections in multiple tracks like "LO$ER=LO♡ER," emphasizing unity against adversity.[110] This involvement extends to multilingual adaptations, with lyrics crafted in Korean for core releases, English for global singles like "Magic," and Japanese for dedicated albums such as Still Dreaming, allowing nuanced expressions of universal youth themes across languages.[115]Influences and evolution
Tomorrow X Together's artistry draws from a blend of K-pop predecessors and Western musicians, shaping their narrative-driven sound. The group has cited SHINee as a key inspiration, with member Taehyun recalling watching the senior act's debut music video at age seven, which sparked his interest in the genre's storytelling and performance style.[116] Western influences include Radiohead, as Beomgyu has expressed admiration for tracks like "Creep" while learning guitar, and Avril Lavigne, whom Huening Kai credits for early musical exposure through songs such as "Sk8er Boi."[117] As labelmates under HYBE, TXT also looks to BTS for guidance on global appeal and emotional depth in music.[117] Individual members contribute personal inspirations that inform the group's creative process. Yeonjun honed his dance skills by studying YouTube videos of contemporary choreographers like Brian Puspos and Ian Eastwood, emphasizing fluid, expressive movements in performances.[117] Soobin drew from his middle school rendition of Ulala Session's "Beautiful Night," reflecting an early affinity for vocal harmony and balladry.[117] These influences extend to broader real-life experiences, as the members have shared that their generation's "reality and limits" fuel themes of youth and resilience.[118] The group's musical evolution mirrors their transition from adolescence to young adulthood, progressing from whimsical, dreamlike narratives to more introspective and experimental expressions. Their 2019 debut era with The Dream Chapter: STAR and MAGIC featured youthful pop, EDM, and hip-hop elements in tracks like "CROWN" and "New Rules," capturing innocence, self-acceptance, and escapism.[119] By 2020's The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY and minisode1: Blue Hour, sounds shifted to electro-grunge and disco-pop, addressing disillusionment and pandemic-induced isolation in songs such as "Can't You See Me?" and "We Lost The Summer."[119] The 2021 Chaos Chapter series introduced hyper-pop and punk-rock in "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)" and "LO$ER=LO♡ER," exploring chaos, cynicism, and redemption.[119] This maturation culminated in the Star Chapter series starting in 2024, where TXT embraced genre-fluid experimentation blending pop, rock, R&B, and emotional ballads to delve into transformation and unity, as seen in their third Japanese studio album Starkissed (2025), which incorporates J-pop, electro funk, trap, and rock elements.[120][121] HYBE's emphasis on authenticity and global accessibility has supported this shift, encouraging the members' increased involvement in songwriting and production to foster individuality within K-pop's structured framework.[117] In The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY (2024) and TOGETHER (2025), solo tracks from each member—such as Beomgyu's rock ballad "Take My Half" and Taehyun's R&B "Bird of Night"—highlight personal growth and vocal nuance, marking a confident step toward artistic independence.[9] Critics have praised TXT's recent releases for this deepened maturity, noting how The Star Chapter: TOGETHER concludes their narrative arc with "multifaceted exploration of love and collective growth," earning acclaim for its emotional depth and innovative storytelling.[9] The album's subtle, vocally challenging arrangements in SANCTUARY further underscore their evolution, positioning TXT as leaders in K-pop's next generation.[122]Endorsements and philanthropy
