Quantum of Solace
Quantum of Solace is a 2008 British action spy film and the twenty-second instalment in the Eon Productions James Bond series, serving as the direct sequel to Casino Royale.[1] Directed by Marc Forster, it stars Daniel Craig as the MI6 agent James Bond, who seeks vengeance against the criminal syndicate Quantum for the death of Vesper Lynd, uncovering a scheme by the villain Dominic Greene to monopolize Bolivia's water supply through environmental front organizations and political manipulation.[2][3] The film features co-stars Olga Kurylenko as Bond's ally Camille Montes, Mathieu Amalric as Greene, and Judi Dench reprising her role as M.[2] Released on 31 October 2008 in the United Kingdom and 14 November 2008 in the United States, it was produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.[1] Filmed on locations including Italy, Austria, Chile, and Panama, Quantum of Solace emphasizes high-octane action sequences, such as a pre-title car chase and an opera house assassination attempt, while advancing the series' reboot narrative by introducing the global conspiracy group Quantum.[2] Despite a $200 million production budget exacerbated by the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, which disrupted script finalization and led to on-set rewrites, the film achieved commercial success, grossing $586 million worldwide and ranking as the seventh highest-grossing film of 2008.[4][5] It received a 64% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for Craig's performance and stunt work but criticism for rushed editing and underdeveloped plotting attributed to the strike's timing.[3] The movie's title derives from a 1959 Ian Fleming short story, though the plot bears little resemblance, focusing instead on themes of retribution and resource control inspired by real-world events like Bolivia's water crises.[1]
